I Passed My Notary Exam!
2008-04-02 06:32:00 As I was explaining in my previous blog, I recently had to renew my notary commission. Well, yesterday I found out I passed with a score of 87!With a test consisting of only 30 questions there isn't much room for error. Even though I am aware of the ends and outs being a notary, taking a test on the subject can be a little nerve racking. Now I am off to get my fingerprints...

Successful Notary Tip #2 - Network
2008-02-06 00:14:00 One way to increase your chances of success as a notary is to network with other notaries. An easy way to do this is to read and participate on the many popular notary boards, such as Notary Rotary, Go Mobile Notary, and Mobile Notary Network (view MyNotarySource for a comprehensive list). There you will find new and experienced notaries that you can learn from, get your questions answered and exchange marketing ideas with. When you first log on to a board it is always good to read and get a feel for the board before you post. Once you feel comfortable you can introduce yourself to let your voice be heard. The board I recommend the most for newbies is Mobile Notary Network because the notaries are friendly and helpful.Another way to network with other notaries is contact local notaries in your area to set up a referral system. Because I have been in contact with other Long Beach notaries, I can easily refer business to them that I am unable to accept. If am presented with an assign...

In A Notary Public We Trust
2008-01-23 03:44:00 I am often amazed at how much trust people put in me because I am a Notary Public. I have had a husband leave his baby in the room while he went out to the car to get his identification (I could tell his wife was not too happy with this one when she walked into the room but who could blame her), credit cards and check books have been left in my presence, and clients have been more than willingly to pay me for my notary services even before the notarization has been completed. This bold level of trust shows two things: 1) most people are naturally very trusting and 2) the general public puts their trust in you because as a notary you are an officer of the state who has been entrusted with great responsibility. It is quite an honor to be so highly esteemed and I do everything possible to maintain this trust.

Should You Tip Your Local Notary?
2008-01-20 06:53:00 Like most webmasters I am able to view statistics on visitors to my notary blog. One of the statistics provides me with the string of keywords visitors use to reach my site.An interesting set of keywords that were used recently was "do you tip a notary public" and "how much to tip a notary" so I thought, "hmm, this would make a good blog."I feel that notarizing documents is a service, and just like in a restaurant you tip for good service. Especially, if you have contracted for mobile notary services and the notary has traveled to you at a late hour or has accommodated a last minute request. In some states a notary can only charge $2 per signature or their travel fee is limited by state laws so tipping an extra $5 or $10 I am sure would be appreciated.Related posts:Do You Need A Mobile Notary?Mobile Notary - Traveling From Here to There

Success Notary Tip #1 - Answer Your Phone
2008-01-18 06:15:00 As a notary, your cell phone is your lifeline to receiving new business. If you do not answer your phone then the caller is likely to hang up and dial the next notary on the list.Because our cell phones are so important to our notary business, I am often shocked at how many notaries do not answer their phones.I recently had a gentlemen tell me that he was surprised to get a live person when I answered my phone. He had tried several other notaries and I was the only one that actually answered his call.Great customer service not only sets you apart but it also guarantees repeat business. One way to deliver great customer service is make sure your phone is always in ear shot so that you can easily answer your phone.Even with the best intentions there are times when you are going to miss a call. I have found it extremely helpful to ask in my voicemail greeting that the caller "leave a message as I am able to return most phone calls within 15 minutes."Being a notary requires that you are...

Clarify, Clarify! Before the Notary Appointment
2008-01-08 04:02:00 Today, I learned an important lesson, the importance of clarifying your statements when a client calls for a potential notarization.A lady called me inquiring about notarizing her documents. I informed her that the notary would be $10 per signature but she heard $10 per person. At the time I did not think it was a big deal because she stated that the notary would just consist of a couple of documents and I figured that I would clarify any misunderstandings before I started the notarization. Let's just say that was not the best idea...It turned out that the notarization was for a couple that was purchasing a timeshare in Las Vegas and the documents needed a total of six signatures! On previous occasions when I encountered similar situations this has never been a problem because the client understood and we proceeded with the notarization. This time the client did not want to proceed even after I explained to him that $10 per signature was what any California notary would charge.Fortun...

Mobile Notary - Traveling From Here to There
2008-01-03 02:55:00 The wonderful thing about being a mobile notary public is that you get to travel from location to location and from city to city meeting great people and notarizing a variety of documents.During my four year tenure as a notary I have traveled thousands miles and I have met hundreds of people. Whether I am performing a loan signing, providing Apostille services, or notarizing a one page document(ex. grant deed) it is a pleasure to encounter such variety. My coverage area is Southern California, particularly Los Angeles & Orange County. Below are a few of the cities I travel to as a mobile notary:Long Beach, Signal Hill, Wilmington, San Pedro, Carson, Lakewood, Harbor City, Seal Beach, Hawaiian Gardens, Surfside, Lomita, Los Alamitos, Sunset Beach, Bellflower, Aramount, Artesia, Gardena, Cypress, Rancho Palos Verdes, Compton, Palos Verdes Peninsula, La Palma, Cerritos, Lynwood, Torrance, Stanton, Westminster, South Gate, Lawndale, Midway City, Lawndale, Norwalk, Redondo Beach, Anah...
End of Year Notary Review
2008-01-01 19:30:00 Gratefully, I'm here to welcome in another year; today is the first day of 2008. Thanks to the declining mortgage industry, 2007 was full of financial ups and downs. I started the year performing at least ten loan signings a month but by August I was happy to do one a month. All was not lost though because December brought an increase in business. In December, I completed six loan signings for LSI and ServiceLink, several Apostilles going to India, and three loan signings from a mortgage company in Oklahoma that had a client in Long Beach who was purchasing investment property in Tulsa. All of this notary work led to closing 2007 on a high note. I hope this is a good sign for my notary business in 2008.

Do You Need A Mobile Notary?
2007-12-04 06:13:00 When people think of a Notary Public they don't necessarily think mobile. A regular notary public works from an office that you travel to in order to have your document notarized. Usually, they work out of mail box stores, copy centers, banks and travel agencies.A Mobile Notary Public travels to you. Our motto is have stamp, will travel! The mobile option is for those that want the convenience of someone coming to them. Our lives are so busy these days it's nice to have someone come to you. The traveling notary is also good for those that are home bound, in a nursing home, or hospitalized and it is impossible for the individual to leave to have a document notarized. There is an extra charge for the mobile notary services but it is hard to put a price on convenience. Each notary sets their own travel fee, which may include such variables as distance, weekday vs. weekend, if it's a holiday, and the time of day (whether you're needed early in the day or late in the evening). (Note: ...

California Notary Law Changes January 1, 2008
2007-11-24 04:06:00 As an update to previous posts concerning the California Notary law changes for 2008, I am providing further information. This is due to the widespread confusion that appears to be occuring in the notary community.Although the secretary of state's website clearly shows the changes to the new laws, it appears that many notary supply vendors are capitalizing on the changes and offering workshops, etc., effectively making simple changes into rocket science which creates a new market for their wares. Not necessary. In a phone call to the secretary of state's office, the clerks were giggling over the phone calls and frenzy created by certain notary associations making this into rocket science in order to market to notaries. We can remain calm. The secretary of state's office indicated that they will post acknowledgment and jurat forms on their website mid December for notaries that would like to use them.11-29-07 Update: In an email response from the Secretary of State's Office (Marci...

Mobile Notary Review - CutePDF
2007-11-12 19:54:00 As always, FREE is my favorite word so when I discovered a FREE PDF writer I was ecstatic. I previously thought my only option was to spend hundreds of dollars on the Adobe product.Instead of wasting paper I often create PDFs of receipts and confirmations, or if I want to print an e-mail in which I am unable to predetermine how many pages will print I just print to CutePDF instead. The software is easy to download and install. Once it is installed creating a PDF is just as easy as printing a document because the program is now listed with your other printers.Others tell me they use PrimoPDF, which I have never used but I assume it works just the same.
Jake The Notary Navigator
2007-11-10 23:25:00 Some of my clients may recognize this guy as waiting from the explorer's center console while his boss is working. This is Jake. He is the official notary navigator and explorer guardian. He loves his job. He also loves to frequent Office Depot, Home Depot, Best Buy, patio restaurants, and the city and beaches of Carmel. His special talents include pushing chairs to get to places normally out of reach, saying "hubba hubba", stealing entire steaks within a nano second, finding an open Guinness within 500 ft, herding other animals, monitoring all household activity, scaring the gas man and DHL driver (not the Fedex and UPS drivers - they are too professional for any nonsense), and the usual give paw, sit up, play dead, roll over, etc.Everyone always asks what kind of dog he is. Well......he was acquired from the local dog shelter so it's all a guess. But the vets that have seen him are guessing part bassett hound and part english bull dog. He is certainly eye catching. He has big lig...
2008 California Notary Law Changes
2007-11-07 22:34:00 When you are appointed as a notary public you are also appointed as an officer of the state (at least in CA). Your "boss" in a sense becomes the Secretary of State. With that said, you would think that the State of California would take the time to alert notaries of changes in the law that affect them but we know that logic does not always prevail. So it is up to each individual notary to apprise themselves of any changes in the law.California Notary Law Changes: Personal knowledge is no longer acceptable for verifying identify of a signerThe certificate of acknowledgment is now signed under penalty of perjuryA notary applicant must submit a photograph along with their applicationNotarizing a power of attorney now requires a thumb printWhen requested by a peace officer investigating a criminal offense, a notary must surrender their journal immediately or as soon as possible if the journal is not presentWillful failure to alert the Secretary of State of a ...

how to become a notary public
2007-11-02 04:21:00 Property is transferred, trusts are revised and marriage vows substantiated, it is all in a day?s work for a notary. Doing work behind the scenes, the Notary Public executes crucial affairs for businesses, real estate transactions, the legal system and the general public. You could say a Notary Public makes up the eyes and ears of the justice system by making sure that the signatory to a written document is precisely identified and that the signer acts of their own volition without pressure. Small wonder a Notary Public is known as the ?witness for the people? . So how can you become a notary public? The qualifications required vary from state to state. All states and jurisdictions have 3 common requirements: complete the application, pay a fee and take the oath of office. An applicant must be a minimum 18 years of age. A few states, such as Florida, also require training to be completed prior to gaining an appointment as a notary. It is not a lifetime appointment, and the renewal...

Notary Signing Agent System
2007-06-23 06:58:00 There are times when things just work out better when you have a system so I’ve decided to write out the process I follow when I am called to perform a loan signing.
