Krav Maga Instructor Training - Notes from North Carolina
2009-10-24 03:10:00 I spent 5 days doing an instructor Krav Maga training at a great school in Gastonia, North Carolina (Ryan Hoover's Extreme Karate). Most of the time was lead by one of Krav's highest level instructors - Kelly Campbell. It was a comprehensive training for all the material that is part of the teaching lessons provided for Krav instructors. But most memorable were the adaptations made to several of their existing techniques and their gun stuff rocks! Krav Maga of course steps up to the plate when it comes to weapons defense more than any other system out there. They have a thorough understanding of how attacks happen and the natural responses of the attacker. Although it is not the...
Toast to notes
2009-10-21 16:00:00 Most people have heard of Post It notes, but these seem to be Toast It notes. I have no idea of the reasoning behind this design or why you would want a slice of toast on your desk other than for breakfast. The idea offers a funny sort of gimmick for your desk, but never the ...
Notes from Bulls loss to Orlando
2009-10-20 12:53:00 I have mixed feelings about the Bulls loss to Orlando. Sure, Orlando played it's starters more down the stretch, but the Bulls played theirs more overall. The outcome of a preseason game never particularly matters to me, and there's no shame in dropping one to Orlando at any point of the year....
Post game notes and quotes
2009-10-14 13:00:00 My initial analysis of the post game can be found here, but here's some of the interesting stuff everyone else was saying after the game:From K.C.'s latest:Coach Vinny Del Negro revealed after the 87-86 triumph that he called plays for rookies James Johnson and Taj Gibson down the stretch."I want them to feel that a little bit," Del Negro said. "I think it's a good time to do that in the exhibition season. It's only going to prepare them for the regular season." Makes sense to give them some shots to make things happen at the end of games, though interestingly, I don't think any of Johnson's scores came off set play calls, so he must have passed out of...
Game Notes For Friday @ Redbirds
2009-09-18 20:35:00 * The Cardinals have won five of their last six home games against the Cubs, and have limited the Cubs to a total of just two runs over their last three meetings in St. Louis. * Since the beginning of August, the Cubs have not won a single game (0-15) in which they failed to hit a single home run. * On this date 41 years ago, Ray Washburn of the St. Louis Cardinals pitched a no-hit game against the San Francisco Giants at Candlestick Park. Washburn won a 2-0 decision, just one day after San Francisco's Gaylord Perry hurled a no-hitter at Candlestick. The performances by Washburn and Perry marked the first time that consecutive no-hitters occurred in the...
Boston Red Sox News & Notes ? 9/18
2009-09-18 17:01:00 Last night was one of those would of, could of, should have won games for the Boston Red Sox against the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park. After falling behind on a Howie Kendrick home run in the third inning, Jacoby Ellsbury got the Red Sox on the board with a solo home run in the ...

Boston Red Sox News & Notes ? 9/17
2009-09-17 17:26:00 With the game last night between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels lasting four hours and seven minutes, you would have thought that the New York Yankees were in town. Obviously they weren’t but we did witness an October-like game at the Fens. Mistakes were plentiful in this one by both sides. And as ...

Boston Red Sox News & Notes ? 9/16
2009-09-16 18:49:00 Who was that guy on the mound last night for the Boston Red Sox and where did they get him from? That’s right it was the Daisuke Matsuzaka that was advertised about back when the Red Sox signed him before the 2007 season. He was definitely not the same pitcher we’ve seen over the last 2 ...

Birds on a Wire are like Music Notes on a Score
2009-09-10 15:44:00 Birds on the Wires from Jarbas Agnelli on Vimeo. This is what I call "critical insight"! Brazilian designer Jarbas Agnell saw something more than just a flock of birds sitting on a set of power lines. He saw a collection of notes on a music score, which he transcribed into a beautiful piece of multimedia art. Bravo! Check out Jarbas' thoughts here. Via: Good Things Design Blog

Astrology notes~Famous quotes on the New World Order
2009-08-30 18:38:00 Here are a few quotes about the 'new world order', if you're hankering for a brief bask in its deformed rays.In his book *The Secret History of the West, Nicholas Hagger says that the term 'new world order' was first used in the modern media by Nelson Rockefeller on **July 26, 1968, when he asserted that he would "work toward international creation of 'a new world order.'"(The term) 'was widely used following the collapse of the Berlin Wall in 1989' (Reagan.) 'President George Bush used the term several times before the Gulf War; for instance, "Out of these troubled times...a New World Order can emerge" ('Sept 11, 1991' as displayed in the video below ~ although this precise date is disputed, particularly as noted in this text of Bush Sr's speech to a Joint Session of Congress, Sept 11, 1990, not '1991'; notice in the text he refers to their "fifth objective, 'a new world order.'" jc.)'And the term has been much-used following the terrorists attacks on New York's ...

More Camp Notes
2009-08-03 00:58:00 More Kevin Jones?Vaughn McClure writes about the Bears giving Matt Forte some downtime at practice this weekend. Smart move and something many of us think is coming ten months too late. Just because the Double Deuce is capable of thirty touches a game doesn't mean he should be given thirty touches a game. Over-running young tailbacks is quickly becoming the equivalent of over-throwing young arms in baseball. Something the city of Chicago knows a thing or two about. The Erik Kramer FactorI write about the legendary 1995 season Erik Kramer played at quarterback for the Chicago Bears all the time. Good to see it get some press from Brad Biggs. Some really thoughtful insight from Kramer too:''I can't think of a...

Blackhawks Convention News & Notes
2009-07-20 00:08:00 The 2nd annual Blackhawks Convention will be termed another success by John McDonough and his staff. Not unlike the offseason thus far, the event had it's hiccups. However, McDonough met the challenge of an angered fan base and most will leave the weekend full of optimism for the upcoming season. Kudos to McDonough for being the most visible and accessible member of the Chicago Blackhawks throughout the weekend. Much like a politician running for office, the team president was a constant amongst the crowd shaking hands, signing autographs and posing for pictures. The boos from Friday night quickly faded and McDonough appeared to be a popular figure with the convention attendees. Stan Who?: Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman's Q&A...

Gold Cup Update 2.0 -- A look ahead to USA vs. Honduras and some notes on C
2009-07-08 19:18:00 Fire midfielder Logan Pause and the U.S. National Team are all set to take on Honduras tonight (8 p.m. FSC/TeleFutura) in the Americans second match of Gold Cup play. The U.S. and Honduras, who last played each other in June's World Cup Qualifying match that saw the Americans win 2-1 at Soldier Field, are currently tied atop of the Gold Cup's Group B. Honduras, who (like the U.S) brought a 'B' team to the Gold Cup, beat Haiti 1-0 in their first game of the tournament and should be a pretty tough opponent for the American squad. "This is going to be a much better [match]," said U.S. Head Coach (and former Fire head man) Bob Bradley to ussoccer.com....

Some short notes on short sales
2009-06-29 05:44:00 It seems today that everyone is looking for distressed properties to get a deal on, and aside from real estate auctions of foreclosures, short sales can be a way to get some extra bang for your buck. A short sale occurs when a homeowner realizes he or she can no longer make the payments on the home and may soon go into foreclosure. The homeowner asks the lender to accept less than they owe on a property in order to prevent the property from becoming bank-owned, and to avoid the damage foreclosure causes on their credit rating. Best Chicago Condos says that short sales have tripled over the last year in Chicago. Single family homes are harder hit than condos. But as with any...

Pirates-Nationals Notes
2009-05-22 13:55:00 Since I was in attendance, I thought I would share my observations from the Tuesday and Wednesday night games between the Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Pirates. - While it would be nice for the Nationals to be successful one day, in the meantime, I'm going to enjoy the easy access to tickets. For the third time over the past two seasons, I arrived at the stadium without tickets only to have someone give me two tickets. Not sell me tickets, give me tickets. On Wednesday night's game, I was given tickets in the first row of section 100L (center field not far from where Nate McLouth made the game-saving catch). The normal ticket price is $30 per ticket and we even had someone in this section taking orders and bringing food and drink directly to our seats. - Speaking of servers, when my friend ordered a hot dog, our server told him a few minutes later that they were out of hot dogs and had to make them from scratch. Do the Nationals have cows somewhere in the stadium ready to b...
