2008-06-26 08:48:00 Am I only one entertained by the recent dispute playing out in the pages of the Express? Almost everyday, the "Look Out People" section, which posts news/information about somewhat famous people, features a two-line story about Amy Winehouse. Twice in the past few days, a letter to the editor asks Express to stop with the Winehouse stuff. In response, Express featured another snippet about Winehouse on Wednesday. Personally, I don’t understand why people are so upset about the Winehouse coverage. If you don’t want to read anything about this train-wreck, turn the page and read the Blog Log, Pearls Before Swine or play Sudoku! Thanks to everyone for providing their votes and comments about attending a game at Yankee Stadium. Notes: Lincecum Looks Human
2008-06-23 17:47:00 It took over 2 1/2 months, but Tim Lincecum finally turned in a rough outing Sunday, his first of the season. He made his first "non" quality start of the year last week vs. the Detroit Tigers, but was still effective enough to go 7+ innings and allow the Giants to get the victory. He only lasted 5 innings Sunday, and although he had 8 strikeouts over the 5 innings, he allowed too many big hits with runners on base. The "Franchise" has now raised his era from a ridiculous 1.99 to 2.54. He's still in line to make the NL all-star squad, but what little chance he had of starting the game for the NL appears to be diminishing after his last 2 outings, coupled with the fact that Edison Volquez just won't slow down. I think it's probably in the Giants best interest that Lincecum doesn't start that game. It seems like every time a young pitcher goes out and starts an all-star game, it's not out of the ordinary for injuries or ineffectiveness to take hold after the game. As a matter of...
Notes: Momentum carries Benson home to Michigan
2008-06-10 14:06:00 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Grand Rapids, Mich., native Johnny Benson rides a wave of momentum following his third-place finish in Friday’s Sam’s Town 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. The past five races have produced a steady climb up the point chart from ninth to third. Saturday’s Cool City Customs 200 may be the spark that carries the 44-year-old Benson to the No. 1 position in the standings. Benson got his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory at Michigan International Speedway in 2006. He finished ninth last year — his third top-10 performance in four visits to the 2-mile superspeedway. "We are slowly moving up in the points and hopefully that will continue this weekend," Benson said. "We started the season out strong and then got into a string of bad luck, but it looks like this Tundra is back on track now." Benson started the season with a pair of third-place finishes but slowly has been digging out of the hole created by a 30...

Denver Broncos Team Camp Day 3 - News and Notes
2008-06-06 15:24:00 After taking Wednesday off, the Broncos got right back to work on Thursday. As a sidenote, Mike Shanahan was a guest on Sirius NFL Radio yesterday talking about everything from Javon Walker/Travis Henry to Selvin Young to Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall. Looking to find some audio for ya but it was an interesting 10 or so minutes. Back to business..... There are several articles out now talking about the Broncos drive for better character. Of course, these negative piles of journalistic pizzle are taking shots at the Broncos "focus", implying that character only comes into the equation when teams are losing. If you'd like to focus on the stuff going on off the field you can do that HERE and HERE. For me, I am going to focus on the field. The Broncos have cut bait with alot of locker room-cancer guys in the past few months and I support it, even if the the perception is the talent level of the team has dropped. I don't agree, and feel it is the name recognit...

Everest - Ghost Notes
2008-06-05 16:39:00 The first track on Everest’s debut release Ghost Notes is damn near perfect. If I listened to FM radio anymore, this is a song I’d expect to hear and actually enjoy. The band is comprised of seasoned musicians out of the Los Angeles scene who’ve spent time performing in acts such as Sebadoh, the Folk Implosion, Earlimart, Mike Stinson, Slydell, eels, John Vanderslice, and the Watson Twins. Not only do they have pedigree, but they have the chops to live up to it. Ghost Notes is a great listen from start to finish. The album kicks off with “Rebels in the Roses,” a highly addictive tune that would fit nicely in Ryan Adams’ song catalog. The band is made up of a group of good pals that love music and that’s what the album sounds like. It’s effortless. And as the album winds down with the subtly stunning “Stumble Waltz” and the slow burn of “Standing By,” I remind myself that this is Everest’s first effort....

Denver Broncos Team Camp Day 2 - News and Notes
2008-06-04 14:16:00 Rod Smith makes an appearance, Ebenezar Ekuban is getting frustrated and #20 was barely off the back of Travis Henry before another player laid claim. All that and more in today's Team Camp update! No one knows exactly what the future is for Rod Smith but one thing's for sure, it will involve helping the Denver Broncos in some way, shape or form. Smith showed up on the practice field yesterday to help out with the receivers and expressed his love for the Orange and Blue - I love the Denver Broncos, I love the organization, so there ain’t nothing that I wouldn’t do to help. Whether it is on the field or off the field, anything I can do, even just sitting there and talking to some of the guys who are playing receiver now, just giving them little tips and stuff like that. I enjoy that because I know it is going to help them, therefore it helps the organization. There isn’t anything that I wouldn’t do to get us back to where I feel we belong. Smith already...

2008-06-03 20:04:00 Let's take a look at the latest news from Senate races around the country. Click here for our latest Senate rankings (updated: 5/20/08).AlabamaThough the party is expanding the playing field across the country, Democrats have gained little traction in their efforts to unseat Republican Senator Jeff Sessions (pictured). Sessions continues to hold a huge lead over Democratic challenger Vivian Figures in his bid for a third term. The Republican leads 62%-29% according to the Rasmussen poll, with 72% of the electorate holding a favorable view of the incumbent. Nearly a quarter of the voters surveyed were unsure about Figures, which suggests much of the state is still unfamiliar with her. After a close win in his first election in 1996, Sessions won easily in 2002 and appears to be cruising to another victory this cycle. Alabama is not expect to be closely contested on the presidential level and with Sessions holding a nearly 300:1 cash advantage, the chances look increasingly slim f...

Denver Broncos Team Camp Day 1 - News and Notes
2008-06-03 15:14:00 The news from yesterday wasn't all about Travis Henry. The team was back on the practice field, this time for Team Camp. Looks like the Broncos are testing the waters using John Lynch as a part-time player - On nickel situations, Marlon McCree replaces John Lynch at safety. How they use Lynch this season, along with the other safeties on the roster, will be a huge question throughout the summer Ebenezar Ekuban was being used at DT on third down, similar to the way he was being used in 2006. DeWayne Robertson participated in his first full practice as a member of the Broncos and came out of it none the worse for wear - It felt good. I went full-go. We're getting a lot of good coaching out there from Bill (Johnson) and Jake (Burney). We've just got to take the coaching and keep progressing. Robertson has a chronic knee condition and is coming back from off-season wrist surgery. 460 Pounds. That's what Broncos Guard Montrae Holland likes to bench press - It's the mos...

2008-06-03 04:56:00 I wanted to discuss a few of the interesting things I have heard in the news lately. According to the AP and Yahoo! News, construction fell again for the 26th straight month. That is absolutely astounding. The number of homes that are being build has been decreasing for the past 2 + years! This is interesting because this should have been an indicator to speculators, investors, and aspiring real estate owners that this cycle of rising home prices was coming to an end. In the future, anyone looking to get into real estate should look at these numbers as the signal as supply and demand issue that was left unchecked. What any investor has to realize is that the housing market is governed by the same rules of supply and demand that any other market is governed by in a capitalist economy. Therefore, simple indicators like decreasing production and increasing supply signal a slowdownh in the market. This is the same in manufacturing and the same in any other kind of market that is heard o...

PAPYROPHOBIC BUT LOVE STICKY NOTES? TRY POSTICA
2008-05-31 00:29:00 Postica has to be one of the more single-serving Web apps I've seen in a long time. The service lets you create a slew of tiny sticky notes that can be maneuvered around the confines of your browser with ajaxian flair. They don't hover over pages you're looking at like Diigo or Fleck; instead it's all about your personal note space. Whatever notes you create are saved, and can be accessed from wherever. You can also share them with others, and they can send notes to your workspace, too. Each note is confined to just 140 characters, the same length as an SMS text message or a note on Twitter. You can also add a single file to each note. I managed to get a few image files that were over 5MB in size, but it choked on the 50MB video file I tried. There's no documentation on what the size limit is, or if you'll run into any sort of cap on total storage so I'd stick to small files like PDFs, pictures, and office docs. I'm still wary to recommend Postica over something like Shifd...

Franchitti took part in Sprint Cup testing at Pocono earlier this week, and planned to compete in Saturday’s 200-lap Nationwide Series race at Dover International Speedway. Denver Broncos Quarterback Camp Day 6 - News and Notes
2008-05-29 13:22:00 Some much to say, so little space! Actually, I have all the space I want, and it's a good thing. Yesterday seemed to be a busy day for guys getting injured(Dre Bly), guys feeling better(Jay Cutler) and guys that are simply off their rocker(Todd Sauerbrun). We'll start with the Quarterback. Jay Cutler says he is completely back to normal, or at least what normal is now. The weight is back to normal, the conditioning is back to normal, and cutler is ready to go -- I feel fine, I feel like I did last year at camp. I've gotten everything back, I can definitely feel a difference from March. I've got all of my zip. I can make all the deep throws. It definitely feels good to do that again. Culter's teammates are also glad to see the 'old Jay' back -- Brandon Stokely - It's almost like night and day between right now and the end of last year. Patrick Ramsey - He's not a different person. Jay's Jay, but at the same time, he's easier to be around - and I don'...

We'll get to Henry in one second. Notes: Lia tries to build on win by facing The Monster
2008-05-27 17:05:00 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Donny Lia’s victory last weekend at Mansfield Motorsports Park was surprising to many. And that would include Lia himself.
