OUTSOURCING COLLEGE EDUCATION
2012-01-31 07:43:00
Foreign Policy magazine recently published an eye-opening article about the economic value of an education abroad. What they did was compare the median cost of one year of an American undergraduate education ($9,000 USD) with that of an average international one ($4,000 USD). While money wasn't the only factor explored (there's also the question of quality, of course), the article does point out some rather startling examples, like how even though South Africa's University of Cape Town has a higher QS ranking than The University of Notre Dame, attending the latter is a whopping $32,000 USD more. Incredible! Check out the full piece here.

Notre Dame Sends UConn Men to Third Straight Loss
2012-01-29 19:59:00
New Nike Hyper Elite Platinum uniforms. Same old stagnant UConn Huskies men's basketball offense. After losing two straight games, the Huskies were hoping the return of Ryan Boatright would give them a lift on both ends of the court. While he was able to do just that, other things in the game didn't bounce UConn's way. A 13-0 run by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to start the second half helped them a 50-48 win over the Huskies in front of a sold-out XL Center in Hartford, CT on Sunday afternoon. UConn had a few chances to take the lead or tie this one up late. Trailing by three at 45-42 after a Boatright layup with 1:02 to go, Roscoe Smith stole the ball and got it to Shabazz Napier, who missed the three. Andre Drummond committed a foul and Pat Cannaughton hit both free throws to push their lead back to five. After a Drummond dunk cut it back to three, the Huskies forced the Irish into a five second call. But Napier missed the three again and the Huskies had to foul sending Jeria...

Member of Notre Dame '88 National Title Team, Andre Jones Passes Away
2011-06-23 01:47:00
Some very sad news out of South Bend to pass on today. Andre Jones, a starter on the 1988 University of Notre Dame team (their most recent college football national championship team) died this morning in Atlanta at the age of 42. He suffered a brain aneurysm yesterday. Jones is the father of current ND wide receiver TJ Jones. TJ finished his freshman year of 2010 with 23 receptions (five each versus Navy and Tulsa) for 306 yards, including scoring catches against Purdue, Michigan and Navy. He started seven games and played in 12. Andre Jones played outside linebacker for former Irish coach Lou Holtz from 1987-90....

2011-06-13 07:03:00
The storied college football rivalry between the University of Notre Dame and the University of Michigan gets a special new twist this fall. Today ND unveiled retro football uniforms that the Fighting Irish will wear against the Wolverines on Sept. 10th, to honor of the first ever night game at Michigan Stadium. This is the first prime-time matchup between the Irish and Wolverines since 1990; when both were ranked in the top-five....

Michael Floyd OK for Notre Dame Summer Workouts, but Not Reinstated to Team
2011-06-07 20:24:00
If University of Notre Dame football was a reality series, then the major star would be senior wide receiver Michael Floyd. He's been the king of drama (at least among the players) when it comes to college football in South Bend these past couple of years. Obviously, there's been plenty of outside the roster drama with Lizzy Seeberg and Declan Sullivan in 2010-11, but Floyd's given the media plenty to write about in his own right. Three alcohol offenses landed him suspended from the Fighting Irish, and he's still not reinstated to the team. He's kind of in limbo right now. But we did learn yesterday that he is now able to participate in voluntary workouts this summer with...
Notre Dame University again betrays Catholic pro-life principles
2011-05-22 18:04:00
Roxanne M. MartinoIt did it by appointing to its board of trustees Roxanne M. Martino, a campaign contributor to political candidates who are strongly opposed to the Church’s teachings on life. The Cardinal Newman Society revealed her history: A review of Martino’s contribution history on City-Data.com (see here and here) revealed that she gave a total of $16,150 to the pro-abortion group EMILY’s List between 2005 and 2008. On its website, EMILY’s List states that it is “dedicated to electing pro-choice Democratic women to office.”...
Charges dropped against pro-life protestors at Notre Dame
2011-05-05 23:12:00
From the Thomas More Society May 5, 2011 (Chicago)... Today, Michael Dvorak, St. Joseph County, Indiana prosecutor, dismissed the criminal trespass charges that he has pressed over the last two years against almost all of the pro-life protesters, known as the "ND88," the individuals arrested for trespassing when they entered upon Notre Dame's campus in peaceful and prayerful protest against the University's bestowing honors on President Barack Obama at the 2009 Commencement.  Dvorak dropped the charges as part of an agreement between the Thomas More Society and the University....
Notre Dame QB Derby Part 2: Dayne Crist and Andrew Hendrix
2011-04-22 22:52:00
During one of his banner seasons leading the Cincinnati Bearcats, current Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly played two QBs. This fall in South Bend, it could happen again. Maybe. Dayne Crist is the projected starter, with Tommy Rees number two as of today, but the depth chart isn't set in stone, or anything like that, as of now. "We'll have to obviously cut back and hone in on who the starter and back-up in that order is," Kelly said after the Blue/Gold spring game. "but we have knowledge now.  Now we can move forward in making some of those tougher decisions relative to who is one, and who is two." For part one of our analysis, focusing on Everett...

Notre Dame Spring Game Recap: Notes, Quotes and Stats
2011-04-17 00:07:00
The University of Notre Dame football team concludes its biggest weekend of the spring with the 82nd-Annual Blue-Gold Game, won by the Gold 17-14. The spring college football intra-squad game was broadcast live nationally on Versus and available via live video stream at und.com. This year's spring scrimmage drew 27,863 to Notre Dame Stadium. Not bad for a spring intra-squad, in abysmal weather conditions. ND typically draws at least 20,000 and this wasn't too far off from cracking the top five crowds in blue-game history. Three of the five highest have occurred in the last five years....
Notre Dame Yet to Reinstate Michael Floyd; But Could Return in the Fall
2011-04-09 22:40:00
Notre Dame University's ResLife board has voted not to suspend Fighting Irish star wide receiver Michael Floyd; he recently was charged with another DUI, and he has committed multiple drinking offenses during his time in South Bend. Coach Brian Kelly has not yet reinstated him back into the program. However, the fact that the ResLife board may have thrown him out of school if it wanted to is an encouraging sign for Floyd. There is set precedent, as students and college football players alike have been kicked out of school in the past for repeat offenses. Both Floyd and Kelly released statements through the University today. And Floyd's mom believes that he'll be reinstated to the team in the summer,...
Notre Dame Announces Kick Off Times, First Night Game in 21 Years
2011-03-31 03:41:00
For the first time in 21 years, there will be a night game at Notre Dame Stadium. The Notre Dame-USC game slated for Oct. 22, 2011, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. EDT. "We are very excited about the opportunity to play host to a home night game. While we will do this only on a selective basis, we think it is important to occasionally use the platform of a prime-time game to promote the University and our football program," said Notre Dame athletics director Jack Swarbrick....
Notre Dame's Abromaitis has Future Potential with MBA and NBA
2011-03-28 03:11:00
Everywhere you look, college football and college basketball news stories are filled with scandal and skullduggery. It's enough to make one think there are no good guys left among the coaches, and no "students," in the term "student-athlete." Tim Abromaitis of Notre Dame is an exceptional exception. His team finished the season ranked #4 in the final poll, earned a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and they return three senior starters next year. He was the team's second best offensive weapon behind Big East Player of the Year Ben Hansbrough, and should have an even bigger role next year....
Notre Dame Basketball Season Recap, Early Outlook for Next Year
2011-03-23 02:07:00
When it was over, players were in tears. Heads down in their hands in the locker room. And it's perfectly understandable following a loss as devastating as this.   "When you can invest to the point where you are numb, and there is nothing left, that's what you want from a group, and certainly this group was in with both feet," said Notre Dame Coach Mike Brey.Less than 24 hours after his team met a shockingly early exit from the 2011 NCAA Tournament, Brey was named this year's Henry Iba Coach of the Year, presented by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). The duality of emotion was quite indicative of how the 2010-11 Irish season went. Notre Dame finished fifth...
Notre Dame Suspends Michael Floyd; Caught on 3rd Alcohol Offense
2011-03-22 03:27:00
On the same night that Notre Dame saw their promising college basketball season come to an unexpectedly early and unceremonious end, their upcoming college football season suffered a possible serious setback. Star wide receiver Michael Floyd, who passed up on the NFL draft to return for his senior season was pulled over by campus police before dawn Sunday after running a stop sign. The cops claim he failed three sobriety tests and a breathalyzer showed a blood-alcohol concentration more than twice the legal driving limit! This is his third alcohol related in the last two years. Coach Brian Kelly has suspended Floyd indefinitely Here are excerpts from statements made by both Kelly and Floyd on the matter...
Notre Dame Encounters Seminole Moment: FSU Eliminates Irish
2011-03-21 06:39:00
It wasn't supposed to end like this. And it most certainly wasn't supposed to end this early. The greatest regular season in a generation at Notre Dame, ended prematurely. Exceedingly prematurely as the #2 seed Fighting Irish, ranked #5 in the nation in the most recent national poll, didn't even reach the sweet sixteen.  Ben Hansbrough, the reigning Big East player of the year, fouled out of his final collegiate game with 3:19 left. He had 18 points on 5-13 FG. Teammates embraced him at mid-court, and the fans gave him a standing ovation. It was the first ever ND-FSU meeting in college basketball, and the 'Noles ran away with it 71-57. Florida State is the nation's top defensive team,...
Notre Dame's Mike Brey: One of the NCAA's Best Coaches
2011-03-19 23:23:00
When Ben Hansbrough was looking to transfer out of Mississippi State, he eventually found his way to Notre Dame. Now that he's Big East Player of the Year, you have to consider him the greatest recruit Mike Brey was able to land."Coach Brey, you look at his system, you look at how he runs his team, it's really a team full of guys working together, sharing the basketball, and playing as a unit. That's what I was all about," Hansbrough said."I only visited one school. I committed two days after I visited here, and I didn't need to say I need to go visit another school because I knew right away Notre Dame was the right fit."...
Notre Dame vs. Florida State: Sunday United Center 3rd Round NCAA Battle
2011-03-19 23:01:00
Tip time is 8:40 CT at the United Center on Chicago's west side. The headliner of the two games should be a classic battle with two schools rich in football tradition and featuring iconic fight songs. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Florida State Seminoles have never met in college basketball. They've played some classic battles in college football, including #1 vs #2 "game of the century" in South Bend in 1993.Sunday night, they'll meet with a NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance hanging in the balance. The Seminoles specialize in defense, and they have their main weapon back in Chris Singleton. The 6-9 forward is the ACC's Defensive Player of the year, and a likely NBA Draft pick....
Notre Dame's March Madness Journey Begins vs. Akron
2011-03-18 00:55:00
College basketball's premiere event returns to Chicago for the first time since 2005 when Notre Dame takes on Akron tomorrow at the United Center.Tip is at 12:40, and if the practice session attendance is any indication, expect the Chicago crowd to be overwhelmingly in favor of the Fighting Irish tomorrow. Notre Dame enters as 26-6 #2 seed fresh off a stunning last second loss to Louisville (a #4 seed who were bounced early from the tourney by #13 Morehead State today) after beating the Cincinnati Bearcats by the second most lopsided margin in BE Tourney history.Mike Brey, the Big East Coach of the year for the third time in five years, in 5-6 in the tourney with the Irish, 4-2...
Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly Motivational Speech Leaves Hoops Team Uncomfor
2011-03-17 05:22:00
That's why Friday's game is so important to win...because if you don't, you might have to start hiring lawyers to defend yourself...and you might also have to align your story with each of the 12 players on the team...because if your stories don't align, you might cost your coach his job...and millions of dollars...and who would want that? You love your coach don't you? Don't you?!"
Notre Dame Earns #2 Seed in United Center, Chicago Regional
2011-03-14 05:46:00
Many thought the Notre Dame Fighting Irish would get a #1 seed today, considering that they have won 12 of their last 14 college basketball games. Seven of those wins over teams selected for the 2011 NCAA bracket, and one of them is a road win over #1 seed Pittsburgh. However, the Irish fell to Louisville in the Big East Tournament, and failed to reach the conference tournament championship. (It would have been the first time in ND history). Duke won the ACC Tournament, and grabbed the final #1 seed. The Irish received a #2 seed, its best since a #2 seed in 1981 when Notre Dame defeated James Madison in a second-round game and then fell 51-50 to...
Notre Dame's Ben Hansbrough will Likely be Big East Player of the Year
2011-03-08 04:39:00
If SIU is "Floor burn U," than Notre Dame senior guard would be "Captain Floor Burn." He's even grindier than his brother Tyler in his playing style and tries about as hard as anyone in college basketball. Hansbrough didn't make any preseason Big East all-conference teams, but Sunday he was the only player to be a consensus all-first team pick. Meaning he's probably the favorite to win the conference player of the year award. Hansbrough has led ND to double-bye in the conference tournament and a second place finish in the regular season behind Pittsburgh with his ability to both run the point and play off the ball. He's a finely conditioned athlete who works on his quickness everyday...
Notre Dame Lands Three on College Football Hall of Fame Ballot
2011-03-08 01:35:00
Three former Notre Dame stars -- Dave Casper, Terry Hanratty and Jim Seymour were placed on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot today. The entire ballot contains 79 players and nine coaches. The Hall of Fame class will be announced May 11 and the players will be inducted at the College Hall of Fame's Annual Awards Dinner Dec. 6 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. To be eligible for the ballot, players must have been chosen first-team All-America by a major/national selector, played their last year of intercollegiate football at least 10 years prior, and played within the last 50 years and be retired from the NFL....
Notre Dame Senior Night Saw Historical Shooting Performance (Video)
2011-03-03 02:28:00
Tim Abromaitis hit a career-high nine 3-pointers and he and Hansbrough scored 30 points each as the eighth-ranked Irish routed No. 19 Villanova 93-72 on Monday night. The victory ensured a double bye in the Big East tournament for Notre Dame and wrapped up a 17-0 season at home, the only Big East team to go unbeaten on its home court this season. Abromaitis' nine 3-pointers were one shy of the school record set by Kyle McAlarney against North Carolina in 2008. Notre Dame (24-5, 13-4) finished 20 for 32 on 3-pointers. The Irish, shooting 37.7 percent from 3-point range this season, were 11 for 19 in the first half, including 4 of 6 from Hansbrough, to build a...
Notre Dame Sends Seniors Off with 93-72 Destruction of Villanova
2011-03-01 04:00:00
#9 Notre Dame came out of the gates shooting red hot from behind the arc, and the initial surge set the evening's tone. #14 Villanova was never able to catch their breath and catch up, as they spent pretty much the entire first twenty minutes with half as many points on the scoreboard as the Irish. ND was especially fired up for their Senior night as they happen to start all seniors (Ben Hansbrough, Tim Abromaitis, Tyrone Nash, Carleton Scott, Scott Martin). Hansbrough got the biggest ovation of all, as the Purcell Pavilion crowd was extremely fired up all night. Interestingly, Scott, Martin and Abro all return a fifth and final year of eligibility next season. And the Irish gave...
Former Notre Dame safety and trustee Dave Duerson's suicide puts renew
2011-02-22 05:42:00
Dave Duerson died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest last Thursday in his Florida home. He was just 50 years old, and less than 20 years removed from his playing career. A lot has come out in the days since Duerson's passing. Most have reminisced about his distinguished playing career, his rise to being a trustee with the University, and scattered anecdotes about his personal warmth. However, as is the case when a man ends his own life, the darker portions of his life are being explored in attempt to get a sense of what his personal demons might have been. For most of that, and frankly, for most of the positive stories on Duerson as well, I have to plead ignorance. It really exists outside what I want to discuss anyway.
Notre Dame works out its QB situation smoothly
2011-02-18 07:16:00
Just a week ago, Notre Dame football had itself a minor problem: they had 6 scholarship quarterbacks. There's not an All-America candidate in the group, so they need depth, but really, you never really need 6 players for one position unless you're using a rotation....a really long rotation. But, you don't just "get rid of" scholarship athletes because they're no longer wanted. At least you're not supposed to, and Kelly had already eliminated it as an option. It's the type of thing ethically ambiguous football factories do, and Notre Dame at least aspires to not be that.
How many Notre Dame graduates are getting drafted into the NFL this year?
2011-02-15 06:15:00
It's no fun to lose 5 games. Now, it's a little bit fun to lose 5 games when you were damn sure you were about to lose 8, but still, man....5 games. Just about any argument you get into with a friend who went to Southern state school (I don't have one, but I imagine they'd be fun) is DOA after that. But, sometimes pride can be salvaged when your school's alumni goes on to have a remarkable professional career. Shining examples include Justin Tuck, Ryan Grant (who knew?), and that one playoff game this year where the Saints refused to cover John Carlson. So let's use the magic of cbs.com draft rankings to examine the pro prospects of our outgoing Irish players, and answer the nagging question of "Will anyone beside Kyle Rudolph get drafted?"
Scott Martin a key Part of Notre Dame Hoops Success
2011-02-13 22:35:00
In the offseason, the talk around the college basketball program in South Bend was all about personnel losses -most notably Tory Jackson and Luke Harangody- not new additions. But today Notre Dame's 21-4 record signifies the best 25-game start under head coach Mike Brey. It's the first time the Irish have won at least 21 of their first 25 games since the 1980-81 campaign. Notre Dame's 10-3 Big East record matches the best 13-game start in Big East play in program history. The Irish have secured their second straight 10-win Big East campaign and it's the seventh time (in 11 seasons) under Brey that Notre Dame has notched at least 10 league victories. A big reason is Scott Martin,...
Notre Dame's 2011 is about upperclassmen, not the recruiting class
2011-02-09 08:19:00
Don't look now, but winning 4 games in a row and nailing a top 10 recruiting class has generated some wave of goodwill for the Notre Dame football team. A full 17 years before I predicted it to arrive. Stewart Mandel of SI.com, not someone quick to lay praise on Notre Dame, is now projecting the BCS as a possibility for the Irish based on their new strength on defense, an area that looks to be buttressed by the arrival of 8,000 (or just 7) defensive ends. Weis era-induced doubts about how much anyone should ever get excited about recruiting classes aside, I cannot endorse even a glowing national media piece that bases immediate Notre Dame success on the backs of freshmen. Even freshmen with truly enormous backs.
#8 Notre Dame Beats DePaul; Making them Chicago's Best Big East Team
2011-02-04 03:31:00
It's been ten days since Notre Dame last played a college basketball game. And it was big; the biggest one in Mike Brey's career. The Fighting Irish defeated then #2 Pittsburgh at their place, then assuming second place (tied with Louisville) in the toughest conference in the nation. Aside from a couple missed dunks here, and a blown chippy there, they did not look rusty at all in their visit to All State Arena. Let down at DePaul? Not possible for ND, as they pulled away from the Blue Demons well before halftime. DePaul trailed just 24-20 at the 7:31 mark but found themselves down 37-24 at intermission. The second half was all ND as the Irish increased their...
Synopsis of Notre Dame's #12 Recruiting Class
2011-02-03 03:10:00
Given how insane the current weather is in the Midwest is, most local and area schools - including the University of Notre Dame - are closed today due to the snow. But football signing day moves on! And the Irish landed the #12 class according to ESPNU. Seven of the 23 commits are in the ESPNU top 150. It's a very defense oriented class, and they landed four of the top 12 rated defensive ends. The Irish football staff starts the day with five individuals already officially in the fold. Five members of the 2011 recruiting class graduated from high school early and enrolled at the University of Notre Dame in January and began taking classes for the spring...
Bennett Jackson will be a Notre Dame DB, Bennett Okotcha...probably never w
2011-02-01 09:44:00
I have to be at work in like, 5 hours, so hopefully this news nugget can hold you over until some legit commentary rears its head again. Let's try to finish this one up before my foot is done soaking in Epsom salt because (details have been removed because they are gross). As will happen at that age, 3-star cornerback recruit Bennett Okotcha has had a change of heart, and will most likely be staying closer to home as an Oklahoma Sooner next season. Okotcha wasn't the biggest stud to ever set foot on Notre Dame campus, but he had good height and the frame to grow into the physical corner this coaching staff seems to covet and I enjoy to watch.
Notre Dame Season In Review - Stanford
2011-01-30 07:38:00
Sometimes you just get trucked. Not to immediately mix metaphors (I just happen to really like the term 'trucked'), but in the grueling climb that is an FBS college football season; there are slip-ups; mistakes and errors that seems preventable in retrospect. The job of a head coach and his staff are to minimize these occurrences over the course of the year, so that the team could reach its potential. However, at other times, superior teams crush inferior times...and there' s not much to be done about it. Luckily, where I fail, a clip from The Muppets succeeds at illuminating this concept.
Notre Dame Football, Basketball Notes and Nuggets
2011-01-29 21:10:00
Interesting that Irish men's basketball coach Mike Brey, late in his Saturday night post-game remarks following his team's win over Marquette, said exactly what he planned to do Monday night in terms of using the "burn" offense against Pittsburgh. Then ND went out and executed it to near perfection. They did it without second-leading scorer Tim Abromaitis attempting even a single shot from the field. If you're Pitt Coach Jamie Dixon, you have to be better prepared when your opponent gives away the store like that. Und.com's live video coverage of college football National Signing Day returns on Wednesday, Feb. 2, with Und.com Signing Day 2011. 2011-01-28 10:17:00
Per the Notre Dame initiative of the past few years to field players who manage to start for years on end without generating significant NFL interest, Brian Kelly will be faced with the decision of which 5th year senior applications to accept, and which to use to roll hand-made cigarettes with (not to smoke, just as a hobby).
Notre Dame Season In Review - Michigan State
2011-01-25 07:37:00
Notre Dame 31, Michigan State 34 (OT) The last time Notre Dame strolled into East Lansing and had an easy going of things was...well...let's say 1992. Even in the best, most deluded portions of the Weis years, winning against Michigan State was pretty damn hard. They play the Irish too early for their occasional late-season collapse to take effect, and ND is one of only two rivalries the Spartans seem to care about. To contrast, MSU is one of 28 rivalries or so ND has to remind themselves to care about. It's exhausting. With the offense acting irregular to the point of requiring an infusion of Citrucel, and the defense showing hints of being baffled by players running with the football, this registered as a "Uhhh...let's trying to be in this game in the 4th quarter, and uh, see where it goes from there," type of contest.
Notre Dame awards banquet - Now with less food!
2011-01-24 10:44:00
On Saturday night when many a ND student was wandering out into the cold only to find off-campus party attendance cut in half by the horrid weather, Notre Dame was hosting the award show for the 2010 football season at the DPAC. We're relying largely on a South Bend Tribune article from Eric Hansen, so who's to say if they had food in the lobby, or, uh, if they, actually let people eat in the auditorium..there's just no telling....I know it's supposed to be 'Season in Review' time but...it's late January and this is a college football blog. Stories aren't just falling out of the sky! On to the awards....there's some good stuff here.
Stephon Tuitt de-commits from Georgia Tech, re-commits to Notre Dame...one
2011-01-20 06:55:00
Well, this is just getting ridiculous. per Brian Hamilton of the Chicago Tribune After de-committing from Notre Dame on Tuesday to switch to Georgia Tech, and having his high school coach release a terse statement of "This is it for Stephon. He won't be taking visits nor having coaches over to his house unless it is a Georgia Tech coach," mega-prospect Stephon Tuitt has switched his commitment back to the Irish..... ....orally.... ....without signing anything... ...with two weeks still till signing day... ...just sayin'... Tuitt himself went on the record this time, and made it sound a lot like some uh....issues were raised to him about Notre Dame....and now they've been cleared up after a meeting with Brian Kelly and Bob Diaco.
Notre Dame Season In Review - Michigan
2011-01-19 10:24:00
Notre Dame 24, Michigan 28 Back in the salad days (even like 4 years ago this was a nationally relevant game! WTF!), the early season tilt between Michigan and Notre Dame determined which team would spend the year in the National Championship discussion, and which team would spend the rest of the season complaining about not beating the other. Now, it determines what team might try to stick in a bowl game, and which one will be kicking the bucket before November. With the "Notre Dame can play down to anyone, at anytime, and anywhere" principle in place, even a super God-awful Wolverine defense couldn't prevent this game from reeking of a toss-up.
Regis Philbin Retires - Notre Dame Football Comments Will Be Missed
2011-01-18 19:55:00
After a career that spans 50 years as a pioneer talk show host, Regis Philbin announced he's retiring. This is his last year, as the CelebTV video shows: This blogger will miss Regis' rants about how well Notre Dame Football was or was not doing. The Notre Dame Alumn never masked his love for the University, but his quips were a great chronicle of how poorly the team performed during most of the Charlie Weis years. And I thought he was going to need Pepto Bismal after the way Notre Dame started the season. But Regis was rewarded with a winning Fighting Irish 2010 tour, and a bowl game win. Aside from that, Regis was a great complement to the hot, buffed, lovely Eelly Ripa, who expressed surprise over the news that Regis was retiring with "You're what?" But, after that long in show business, and the record for the longest time on TV, Regis deserves a rest.  He's 77 years old, and his multi-generational work proves that a person can remain relevant at any stage ...
