2008-09-01 01:21:00 Thanks to the GMNext blog we have a great video explaining how the record setting run at the Nurburgring by GM's own John Heinricy in a production-spec CTS-V was pulled off: You certainly haven't seen much in the DrivingEnthusiast network about Cadillac... but that needs to change. Cadillac has it, Cadillac does it. Anybody who tests at the Nurburgring is good in our book. Note that the defunct SVT organization never tested there... and their absurdly overheating SN95 Cobras never could have survived for a single lap anyway.

Lexus LF-A competes at the 2008 24 Hours of the Nurburgring
2008-05-24 13:16:00 Lexis is running the LF-A prototype at the 24 hour event to gather test data before an introduction of the car into production in 2010. This will be interesting to watch - the car is already doing 7:24 in development laps at the track, bettering the Porsche GT-2 and matching the Nissan GT-R. Note how the car is painted flat black to keep prying eyes away from the details... few of the technical details of the car are known at this early point other than that it is powered by a V-10 engine mounted in the front. We'll have to keep an eye on this one over the weekend. Kudos to Lexus engineers for having the confidence in their work to run a development prototype in a tough race like this! A conventional manufacturer might ch-ose to enter a car after a year of production... Lexus is clearly not a conventional car company! A completely unconfirmed rumor in the web this past week claimed that the car would retail for $225,000 US when it debuts....

The sub-8-minute lap is the fastest ever documented for a production sedan. The new model — which goes on sale late this summer — was first unveiled earlier this year, and is now undergoing final testing. One of the objectives the Cadillac team had when it set out to develop the CTS-V was to make it the world's fastest production sedan, according to GM. Output is estimated at around 550 horsepower, although final numbers have not been released. GM says it will release the car's certified SAE power ratings, acceleration specifications and U.S.-market pricing in the coming weeks, as testing is finalized. 2008-04-14 06:12:00 Leading up to the official reveal of the Corvette ZR-1, a rare week went by when we didn't see spy shots of the General's new super coupe eating up the Nurburgring. But still images don't tell the whole tale, so InsideLine sent its spies to the North Loop with a video camera to capture an uncloaked ZR-1 making the rounds on the 'Ring. According to the men behind the lens, they were able to clock the 620 hp, supercharged 'Vette running laps "in the low 7:40s," easily within reach of supercars costing substantially more than the ZR-1's estimated $100k price tag. But what about the elephant on the 'Ring in the room? The Nissan GT-R V-Spec.

Note the important differences here between the Camaro and Mustang: GM routinely tests at the Nurburgring. Ford of North America never does. Jaguar tests there (oops, that's not Ford anymore). Ford of Europe's most recent test there was the upcoming 350-horsepower Focus RS. Does Ford test anywhere significant? Will an off-the-lot non-R Mustang run hard on a hot race track without blowing it's coolant all over the place? Unlikely. Will a Camaro? Yes - it's being done at the Nurburgring right now. Does the Mustang use 4-wheel Brembo brakes? No. The Camaro and Challenger both have them as options - 4-piston type at all 4 corners. The cancelled Mustang Cobra had 4-wheel Brembos, all with 4-pistons, and an IRS as well - but all that was cancelled.
