2009-04-08 19:39:00 P. C. Ocampo wrote a new blog post: 1020: Obedience Means Being Observant It’s the last irregular day of the term. I wouldn’t call it a regular day because it’s a Wednesday yet we’re following the Friday schedule, and it’s a half day at that. Since yesterday followed the Monday schedule and there were no classes last Monday that means the last two regular days of the term ...

Obedience - A Zen Story
2008-09-22 20:57:00 Zen stories are wonderful stories with deep insight. Every individual understands the story in one's own way. Only the masters have the true understanding of the zen stories. Here i would write down what my mind understands through this story.Readers are welcomed to write their own understanding in the comments. The master Bankei's talks were attended not only by Zen students but by persons of all ranks and sects. He never quoted sutras nor indulged in scholastic dissertations. Instead, his words were spoken directly from his heart to the hearts of his listeners. The master Bandei's talks were not just attended by the students of Zen. This is the quality of the true Zen master. A master is like a huge magnet attracting so many people from all sects and worldly ranks. That is that something great they carry, that makes it irresistible for people. It is not the words that attract them, but their presence. Same talk could be given by any other person with exactly same words and punctu...
And Three is a CD!
2008-06-09 03:03:00 I am so thrilled! Levi got his CD today in Obedience! Three for three, he qualified all three days. He got a 180 and would have gotten a 189 had he sat on his halts in the heeling. Well, we will work on that for sure! Here he is on YouTube. I fought ...
Levi Obedience Leg Two
2008-06-07 23:46:00 Levi is such a good boy! We worked his halts yesterday a bit, and again this morning, before going in the ring and he did a little bit better. Except for on the figure 8 he didn’t sit at either halt. But that’s okay, he doesn’t really know it, and my obedience instructor says he ...
Levi in Obedience
2008-06-06 23:38:00 Levi is such a good boy! He didn’t weave again today doing agility… which means I’m going to pull him and work weaves for a while. I won’t trial him again in agility probably until September, or maybe even later than that. We’ll have to see. But in Obedience he did good! He got 2nd ...
Agility Practice Tonight
2008-06-05 05:57:00 I took Levi and Chase out in the drizzle tonight and we had a great time. There was a Steeplechase course set up at a friend’s yard and we went and tried it out! It wasn’t a very hard one, I will admit… but it was fun. Chase did a great job. That ...
Respect, Obedience and Good Counsel!
2008-05-29 20:55:00 Catholic Bishops deserve, “Respect, Obedience and Good Counsel”, not journalistic criticism! Author with Justin Cardinal Rigali at 175th Anniversary Dinner for Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, May 2007 The use of Catholic journalism to ?Bishop-bash!? is just plainly wrong. For that matter, the use of Catholic journalism in any ?bashing? capacity is equally wrong. There are discussions that ...

Rally Obedience: Preparing Your Dog
2008-04-16 16:35:00 It used to be when you participated in an A.K.C. Obedience Trial there was a set pattern that you followed. This pattern has never allowed for a positive reward experience for your dog while in the ring. The new sport of Rally Obedience now allows for the handler to speak to the dog, clap, whistle, or otherwise encourage the dog as long as the handler does not physically touch the dog or give him treats. Just this fact alone has helped to reduce the tension that often precedes a performance and the exhibitor feels more relaxed. Furthermore the courses may be set up differently at each show, thus training for the event is not as boring for the dog.The basic exercises must still be performed by the dog but the rules are less stringent. The course consists of over a dozen options of exercises which are designated by signs at various "stations" within the ring. Each "station" requires a different performance on the part of the handler and the dog. Each exercise will allow some leeway fo...

Hand Signals On Dog Obedience Training
2008-04-02 15:10:00 People are hooked on taking care of pets these days as they can be considered as one of the most valued possessions of a person. In choosing a pet, we have a variety of choices but dogs are more preferred. One reason for this is the ability of dogs to understand and follow commands from their owners. If given proper training, a dog can understand both verbal and sign commands. However, they tend to learn hand signals easier than words because dogs are very observant of body language.Since we don?t have an official hand signals on dog obedience training we practice commonly used basic commands and these are the heel, sit, stay, down and come. Through hand signals, you can teach your dog to sit by starting with your arm at your side. You can then move your hands toward your chest, facing your palm upward. This is ideal if you?re inches away from your pet, otherwise try to grab your pet?s collar and gently push its rear into a sitting position.Teach your dog to heel with your arms comi...

Help Your Dog Quickly Learn Obedience Training
2008-03-31 14:26:00 One of the most commonly held beliefs about dogs is that they are quite literally born to obey their respective masters - be they male or female. That's why we all collectively consider dogs to be mans best friend. Obedience is not necessarily something that comes naturally to dogs and to be honest often has to be trained into them with compassion and patience. Your dog needs to learn how to obey commands so they know how to behave around your home, people and of course other dogs and animals.Obedience training in dogs is to allow you to "control" the dog. Remember dogs think and act with a pack instinct to a certain extent and this type of training is vital so that the dog knows who the master is in your relationship. In effect you'll become the Alpha male of this particular small "pack". The methods used to achieve this final goal vary from one trainer to the next but the ultimate goal is the same - the dog has to obey their master; it's to the benefit of all involved. So what a...
Obedience
2008-03-24 10:13:00 Being in total obedience to God can land you in very strange places. Following His lead, call or path is exciting and sometimes bewildering.I am reminded of the verse: Genesis 32:24 And Jacob was left alone, and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.I was at a retreat for women breaking their soul and spirit ties. I had been praying for a very long time., working with a team of two other women. It had been a wonderful supernatural experience.A women came in for prayer. I had never met her before and was looking forward to finding out what God had for her. She was not a very big women and was soft spoken. We sat facing each other in prayer. When we had said, "Amen", she leaned forward and said to me "I have a spirit in me." She then grabbed me and pulled me to the floor. We started rolling back and forth on the floor. We rolled over the tops of each other over and over again. Stopping facing each other in a bear hug.I did not feel that I was in danger,...

2008-03-22 18:45:00 Wicked men obey from fear, good men, from love.-- AristotleIn sacrifices a man offers only the strange flesh of irrational animals, whereas in obedience he offers his own will, which is our rational or spiritual worship. - The Berleburg Bible 1726-29 cited in Keil, Biblical Commentary, 156.But when once Christ had called him, Peter had no alternative he must leave the ship and come to Him. In the end, the first step of obedience proves to be an act of faith in the word of Christ. But we should completely misunderstand the nature of grace if we were to suppose that there was no need to take the first-step, because faith was already there. Against that, we must boldly assert that the step of obedience must be taken before faith can be possible. Unless he obeys, a man cannot believe.-- Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1905-1945), The Cost of DiscipleshipOne act of obedience is better than one hundred sermons.Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) In "Draper's Book of Quotations for the Christian World,"...

Home Dog Obedience Training Using the Positive Reinforcement Method
2008-02-15 07:22:00 Most dog trainers believe that the best way to train any dog is using a method called positive reinforcement training. For those who are doing home dog obedience training this process simply entails using positive reinforcement for good behavior and ignoring bad behavior.A dog's natural instinct is to please her owner. Positive reinforcement uses this instinct and allows your dog to learn what it is you want her to do. This type of training has more meaning to your dog because she is able to learn what you want her to do using her own mental capacity. Here are some quick tips you can use to implement this training method at home:1. Pick good rewards. You need to keep your dog's interest level up in what you are doing. A pat on the head or saying "good girl" will lose a dogs interest pretty quickly. Use tempting rewards such as food treats and physical affection to reinforce your dog's good behavior. Dog trainers call these primary incentives and dogs are very responsive to these.2...

Obedience Training- The Best For Your Dog?
2008-01-13 11:27:00 Obedience Training for Your DogWe've all encountered them at some point. Ill-mannered dogs. We've even seen their owners yelling at them, tugging at their leashes trying to make them behave. What is sad is that you can't blame the dog for the owner's irresponsibility. This type of behavior could have been avoided with obedience training. Obedience trainng is a platform for the dog and the owner to learn how to effectively communicate with one another. Can you conduct obedience training on your own? This is a question that has long been debated by the experts. One school of thought is that it would be better if a professional does the training, while others feel the owner can do it if they feel competent. The truth is that a combination of trainer and owner is probably the most effective.Find an obedience school in your area. You will probably be told that they recommend a series of lessons that include both the dog AND the owner. Sometimes the classes can be arranged where trainer...

Costs, Benefits and Obedience
2008-01-11 21:27:00 I've been away from my blog for a few days whilst taking time to procrastinate over thoughts about life in general.I have noticed lately that people I care about seem to be being challenged to go forward into a situation... and then have all the things that made their choices "easier" stripped away, either prior to or just following them making a commitment to press on in their lives. I guess you could include me in that assessment too. That's just it though... isn't it? It's easy to pursue a course of action when everything is going your way, when things are looking up. The real test of a person's character comes when everything comes crashing down around you and you find yourself knocked to the ground; when the only two choices available to you are to stay on the floor... give in and go back home, or get right back up on your feet and press on ahead anyway... win or lose, live or die.I want to look at two instances in scripture where characters from the Bible are faced with t...

Obedience School, AGAIN?
2007-12-03 01:58:00 I command her to "come" and she ignores me. Obedience School was supposed to change Cookie's nature! Well, I've got news for them: This Shih Tzu has a mind of her own! She knows there will be consequences for her disobedience, but like Scarlet O'Hara, she'll "just worry about that tomorrow." Lord, how man times have You taken ME through Obedience School? How many refresher courses have been necessary because of my independent spirit? Always, I come out of school feeling smarter, wiser, and ready to obey Your slightest whisper. What happens? Before I know it, I'm back in Obedience School, and most of the time I'm learning the very same lessons all over again! Help me to be as mercifully patient with Cookie as You are with me, Lord. Just as Cookie doesn't understand why I won't let her run out in the street, I, too, am often devoid of understanding when it comes to Your Plan. Obedience to God
2007-10-31 12:53:00 If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our home with him.(John 14:23)Beloved! God created Adam and Eve in His own image। Adam and Eve had a close relationship with God Who walked with them in the Garden of Eden in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8). One day He said to them, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die" (Genesis 2:16,17). But satan deceived them and they ate the fruit that God had forbidden them to eat. Because of their disobedience, they lost the presence of God and were thrown out of the Garden of Eden. On the other hand, Peter who obeyed the Lord saw miracles in his life. Once when Jesus was looking for a boat to sit down and preach to the great multitudes that had gathered on the banks of the lake, He saw Peter washing his nets. He was tired and disappointed at not having ...

We have been working on this since we get up when I say, not when she says. Anyway, I’m just cranky with PMS and I don’t feel well, so I want to sleep a lot, and I haven’t been able to. I love sleep it’s how I cope. The Obedience Seminar should be fun. Saturday I am auditing, and Sunday I am bringing Chase. We should get some good training ideas!

Obedience and Sin, part 2
2007-09-19 12:30:00 There obviously are several reasons to keep our hearts from sin... but I think a simple, yet most important reason is found in Ephesians 4:30..."And do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live."Hello.Do you see that? When we sin, when we go against His will, we break His heart. I don't know about you, but I don't want to break God's heart. It's a bummer where our nation has headed morally. But really, have we as a church had a part in turning their hearts away... because we've focused on the outward side of sin... and not the real issue, the heart? Because we've preached hell more than we've preached the heart of God?Don't get me wrong. I believe 100% that hell is real is part of the eternal destination of those who do not surrender their lives to Jesus. But how much more should we focus on the heart of God!?God desires our simple obedience. Not that He wants us to live boring, structured lives. He longs for us to obey simply because He knows what's best fo...

Obedience and Sin
2007-09-18 21:49:00 Obedience and SinFor a moment think about "SIN". In my mind we've painted a very distorted picture of what "sin" really is. When we see or here the word "sin" we immediately think of such things as murder, lying, lust, drugs, etc. But really, sin is much more than that. And really, "sin" has nothing to do with the action because it all begins in the heart.Sin is simply disobedience to God's Word and Will for our lives. If you remember, Jesus didn't leave the "sin line" at the ACT of adultery... he said that it begins in the heart with lust. Same with murder... it begins in the heart with ANGER. And so on... (See Matthew 5)So if we've gotten to the point where we think we're not sinning... because the "big sins" aren't a part of our lives... then we've fallen off our rocker. Sin begins in the heart.Obviously all throughout the New Testament there are specific types of sins listed. For instance, there's Galatians 5:19-21... Ephesians 5:5... Colossians 3:5-6... But look at the b...
