El ouroboros reúne, así, los contenidos de varios símbolos en uno: la serpiente, las alas, la renovación, el círculo. La serpiente representa la sabiduría ancestral, el mito primigenio del mundo subterráneo. Más allá de simbolizar lo espiritual, son la sublimación de lo material. La autodestrucción o suicidio es el hecho de que el animal se devore a sí mismo, que es a su vez metáfora del ciclo vital, donde no hay frontera clara entre inicio y fin. El círculo es la idea sintética de la perfección. En sí contiene la dualidad, que hace que todo exista y que Ouroboros se muerda la cola y pueda engullirse a sí misma, recrearse y regenerarse eternamente.
