Driven to Obscurity - Why Hood Ornaments are Becoming Things of the Past.
2008-08-27 14:55:00
From Newsweek: Inside the Mercedes Benz dealership on New York's posh Park Avenue, cars shimmer, leather seats invite, and hubcaps gleam—just like you'd expect. But there's also something missing: the distinctive three-point Mercedes star atop the hood. A feature of nearly ev

Obama rises from political obscurity to verge of history.
2008-05-15 00:00:00
Lost in all the drama between Hillary and Obama in this race to the finish is the historic precedence set by both candidates. Since it's basically a done deal that Barack will be the Democratic nominee, the Associated Press ran an article this past weekend that really captured the historic rise of his candidacy: The amazement was on their faces. Hundreds waited for Barack Obama on that evening in South Carolina, 15 weeks ago, to claim victory - a surprising victory, surprisingly large. And amazing it was. It made it possible for him to stand today on the verge of being the first black person ever nominated for president by a major party. One could guess the thoughts of the blacks and whites in that crowd: Can you believe that our state - South Carolina, first to secede and first to open fire in the Civil War - is now catapulting a black man to the front of the presidential contest in a year that bodes well for Democrats? "Race doesn't matter," some began to chant. "Race doesn...

TunesDay: obscurity and influence
2008-03-04 16:58:00
Who are the most influential bands and artists in the history of rock? Well, start with The Beatles and Elvis, I guess, and for good reason. Chuck Berry, Little Richard, The Stones, of course, The Who and David Bowie. The big names. All of them signed their names on our culture with a fat permanent marker, and in doing so insured that just about all future artists would have to navigate their legacies in one way or another. The funny thing, though, is just how influential some far, far lesser known artists became. Many people have heard of Velvet Underground, although comparatively few have actually listened to them, but if you factor VU’s overwhelming influence out of our collective cultural history would we have had Bauhaus, Echo & the Bunnymen, Lenny Kravitz, Sonic Youth, Jesus & Mary Chain (and subsequently Black Rebel Motorcycle Club), Galaxie 500 (and the army of bands that followed their lead) and REM? How about Big Star? I’d wager that not many contempora...

IT Security, the view from here Much has been written on the pages of the SBN about application insecurities, we are honoured to have Jeremiah Grossman putting his ideas down in print, and I still have the occasional contact with Mark Curphey, founder of OWASP, even though I stood him up for lunch in his first month back in the UK, which I vow to make up for in the new year. In short, there are better men than I to talk about application holes and how to stop them occurring. My experience is with data-security, and read more

GWB Uses Poli-Speak To Trounce Congressional Trolls.

Such a sore loser this one is. Was it really going there anyway? Don't you care about being green or is that just another double standard you espouse? And, how is your pal Soros doing with that quagmire WellCare? Just curious. The title to this pathetic diatribe is, "Ending the War: Time for the Dems to Play Hardball". Cute. Little does this High Dollar Call Girl for Trolldom know, the vaunted majority is toothless and unable on top of being inept.Taking a page from America's retailers, President Bush is getting a jump on the coming battle over Iraq war funding. On Monday, he added an additional $45.9 billion in supplemental war funding to the $150.5 billion he'd already requested, and then turned up the heat on Congress to sign off on the $196.4 billion before heading home for the holidays. Only 60 more browbeating days until Christmas! And you have to give Bush credit. Despite record-low approval ratings, he's unabashedly playing -- and winning -- the PR game on the war. B...

Congress At Odds On Religion? Really?
2007-10-05 23:47:00
I find it hypocritical that Congress opens their sessions with a prayer and then process to attack Christianity on a regular basis. The U.S. House of Representatives has voted for the first time to honor the Islamic holiday of Ramadan, but some conservative lawmakers wanted no part of it....The question is, why? Why "honor" our enemies?A Michigan congressman says he could not support a House resolution honoring the estimated 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide who are currently observing the month of Ramadan.Tuesday the House voted 376-0 to "recognize the commencement of Ramadan" and "commend Muslims in the United States and throughout the world for their faith." Forty-two members voted "present" on the bill sponsored by Eddie Bernice Johnson and 30 others.Among those who voted present on the resolution was Republican Tim Walberg of Michigan. "To offer respect for a major religion is one thing, but to offer respect for a major religion that has been behind the Islamic jihad, the radical...

Ambassador Crocker Puts The Leftinistra In Their Proper Place...Obscurity
2007-09-11 02:46:00
Text of Ambassador Ryan Crocker's testimony to Congress on Monday, as transcribed by CQ Transcriptions. CROCKER: Mr. Chairman, ranking members, members of the committees, thank you for the opportunity to address you today. I consider it a privilege and an honor to serve in Iraq at a time when so much is at stake for our country and the people of the region, and when so many Americans of the highest caliber in our military and civilian services are doing the same. I know that a heavy responsibility weighs on my shoulders to provide the country with my best, most honest assessment of the situation in Iraq in its political, economic and diplomatic dimensions and the implications for the United States. In doing so, I will not minimize the enormity of the challenges faced by Iraqis, nor the complexity of the situation. At the same time, I intend to demonstrate that it is possible for the United States to see its goals realized in Iraq and that Iraqis are capable of tackling...
The Romper Room In DC "IS" Back In Session
2007-09-05 05:23:00
I was wondering if the donation I sent in to the Senate Finance Committee ever got that Rubber Room for ReidCo installed.ReidCo, in his infinite infidelities to this country - our Troops - We The People - Patriotism - The Flag - Truth - and any number of other national treasures he himself has shat upon, is still in denial and that is not "fonetics" for the river in Egypt.I was waiting to write about this...this...poor excuse of a man until a few things were cleared up in my head. Namely, I was waiting for a former comrade to firm up some things and as Dean pointed out, ReidCo and his Merry Band of Losers in Nevada could not muster up more than MAYBE 50 unamerican moosetwits to counter the Fight For Victory Tour. My "confirmation" came from an individual that cannot and will not be named. Round One goes to Move America Forward. That being said, like I needed confirmation, ReidCo has violated several laws of the land. Harry Reid is the Ring Leader and IAW the Constitution of the U...
The Not So Distant Drum Beat Of Obscurity
2007-08-25 19:37:00
Not too long ago, Syria declared the United States to be a viper-like fascist state, and the Syrian government daily Teshreen called U.S. leaders "terrorists" and 'serial killers" who are perpetrating genocide among the nations of the world on a daily basis, and who should be called before a war crimes tribunal. Also, not too long ago, SoH Nancy Pelosi visited Syria in a clear violation of The Logan Act. The policy, as set by the sitting Administration is to isolate Syria as being one of those States that promotes and encourages terrorism as an end to its means. Nancy strutted off in an effort to undermine the sitting Administration in a political gamut that has evidently and apparently failed...just like everything else the SoH has tried.Shortly thereafter, Syria and Iran suggested that the world give peace a chance.Ya. Sure.Seeing that Nancy has a history of "failed policies" time and time again, should she, utilizing her own rhetoric, resign?Members of the Quit Iraq Caucus are...

David Shuster? Or should that be Scheister? Anyway, we remember. You more than likely do as well but your obvious BDS has your cods caught in the cogs of socialist BS.Nice try, though. And the leftist moonbat from Crooks and Liars, Logan Murphy, presumably named after Logan's Run and Murphy's Law, says:This evening on "Hardball" MSNBC's David Shuster started off the hour with a dead on debunking of President Bush's rhetoric from his speech earlier today in which proclaimed that a U.S. pullout in Iraq would have the same consequences as our withdrawal from Viet Nam.IT says other similar drivel as well but the shoe is on the other foot now and I am enjoying the Death Throes Dance of the Moonbat Fruit Loop Brigades.Dance for us now. Bush Slapped...And The "Other Siders" Blink, Again.
2007-08-22 23:17:00
Today, 22 AUG 2007, President George W Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, delivered one of the most powerful speeches he has delivered to date. And, it is about time. The analogies presented were Spot On and all very apropos. Especially so was the analogy of the Vietnam Experience. GWB turned the rhetoric around and "Bush Slapped" the Reids, the Kerrys, the Pelosis and the Kennedys of the world. If you will recall, the Defeatocrats ranted, railed and whined about how Iraq was going to be GWB's Vietnam. They drew parallels and comparisons to how Iraq and Vietnam were the same thing all over again. Before the speech was delivered today, for some strange reason, a few "heads up" were "compassionately" handed out so the opposition could begin their spin. Why this is done is truly beyond reason. My tac is more along the lines of blind-siding the opposition. Keep them on the defensive.Anyway, Reid, in his infinite stupidity and inability to keep his rhetorical ducks in ...

Nintendo Wii to fade into obscurity, Xbox 360, PS3 will ultimately win
2007-08-21 04:57:00
Nintendo certainly has a winner on its hands for the time being. The Wii is still very hard to find unless you are willing to pay exorbitant prices for it on eBay. However, Nintendo is currently running a great game of great marketing, partly due to the unique Wiimote motion controller. Analysts say these novelties cannot last forever and the Wii may well end up being tossed aside after a couple more years, or sooner. The company was all but betting on the motion controllers and games like WiiSports to sell the units and it has but some have doubts that Nintendo can turn this into an on-going success. One of the things mentioned in the original article and elsewhere are the Wii's antiquated graphics, I still say they are little better than the original Xbox. Many people may not have HDTVs now but three or five years down the line, quite a few people will and with the FCC forcing a push to digital broadcasting by 2009, you will either need an external box to convert the digital si...

Get Over Yourself, American Prospect
2007-08-18 02:37:00
Another Leftinistra mutant doesn't get it, either. I find it interesting that the party members with the lowest approval ratings in the history if the United States, find it necessary to degrade and abase others in order to elevate their menial, insignificant and pathetic selves. Little do they know, when resorting to tearing someone else down to elevate oneself, the opposite takes place. It is truly peculiar that the theoretical Wise Ones of the Leftinistra have missed that in the Moonbats In Training Academies.I haven't agreed with President Bush in all matters so that disqualifies me from being a card carrying member in good standing "Bushite". That being said, I would "Rather" be a Bushite than an ignorant puss KOSmonoff any day.I would "Rather" be a neocon than a brain-dead socialist slut like Hillary Rodham "My Documents Are Invisible" Clinton.I would "Rather" be a neocon than a traitorous murdering thug drunk like Kennedy that was selling America down the tubes to Gorba...
Some Legacies We Could Do Without
2007-08-12 12:03:00
And one of those legacies is the hypocrisy of the Vaunted Democratic Party. It is sad in a way.I dare say that MOST Democrats are "Rather" vexed with their party's leadership and the constant "do as I say but not as I do" as they waltz their way into obscurity and insignificance.Their competition of who can hate GWB the most has resulted in the Presidential Aspirants of the DNC have painted themselves into a corner of which there is no way out without soiling themselves. From SFGate:Even as they call for an end to the war and pledge to bring the troops home, the Democratic presidential candidates are setting out positions that could leave the United States engaged in Iraq for years.I have a plethora of posts on this blog and the other three I operate in this regard. The current quagmire the democratic party leadership has gotten themselves into is the direct result of appeasing and appealing to the many individual Fruit Loop Brigades that have no common sense about them, between the...

Ignore it for long enough and it will go away? Really? You sure? Oh. Yeah. Right. Just like when we repeat our lies to garner votes and position for long enough, the American Idiots fall for our crap! Man! How could I be so stupid? What? Well, jeez! You didn't have to go and answer that. Damn, Nancy."But some of the weaker ones that have their own consciences still in tact are beginning to bail on us. What do we do about that? AH! Obscurity is a far greater threat to authors than piracy
2007-05-07 00:02:00
Five years ago, Tim O'Reilly of Web 2.0 fame noted down several thoughts about online information distribution. Although his comments are focussed on music, film and book publishing, many of them equally apply to journal publishing. My particular favourites are "Obscurity is a far greater threat to authors and creative artists than piracy", which captures the imperative of the open access movement, and "File sharing networks don't threaten book, music, or film publishing. They threaten existing publishers". This could have been written about self-archiving.
The Obscurity of It All Vol.1
2006-12-07 04:07:03
Well it's not really that obscure... hmm you don't actually know what i'm talking about ay...I've been going thru my music collection, and reorganising it all recently... I did all my records alphabettically and orded into a few shelves... This was a lil while ago, spring cleaning time, so a couple of months. It was really anal i know, but good fun anyway, now i like to sit back and just look at them all, or randomly zoom in to see what something says. I've sooo got mild OCD, but who doesn't these days...Anyway the process not only organises all your shit, it also helps you rediscover so many gems you never knew you always had... I'm lookin thru goin "damn, damn, that's right, oh shit, oh yeh" etc. etc. So yeh this was kinda inspiring, so now i'm trying to filter through my pc collection. Which is another huge damned task in itself, and really i don't think i have the time, but fuck it, it needs clearing cause i've used up all the space on my pc by far, and my "going out ...
