Friday Food Porn - Mighty Meat
2008-05-30 09:36:00
Last week there was some confusion over whether or not the kohlraboobies featured would qualify as 1 or 2 of a person’s 5-a-day. To avoid confusion this week, I chose to feature some good old fashioned meat! Indeed. The most prized part of this meat is the siphon, which may be eaten raw, consumed sashimi style ...

Missing kids. Normally that would strike fear into the hearts of any a parent, but not here in the fraccy household. Oh indeed, the kids aren’t home and though I may have worried for a very brief moment, thanks to the internet, I am no longer worried about where my kids might be. I, while ...

3 oddities in Bali, which would raise some brows - anywhere else

When reading the last issue of The Bali Times, I had a few good laughs. This weekly newspaper is actually known for portraying the Bali Life from an Expat point of view. Mainly you can read about foreigners arrested on Drug Charges (amazingly still plenty of tourists think they can get away doing drugs in Bali), ...

Friday Food Porn
2008-05-16 09:48:00
Porn. You’ve desired it. You know you have. Come on, be honest with yourself. You’ve probably even tried to look for it… waking yourself in the middle of the night and sneaking over to the computer, typing the letters into the search box one key at a time so as not to make noise and wake ...

Great Tits. Britain vs North America?
2008-05-09 18:52:00
We’ve heard it over and over… global warming is a bad thing. Some have started campaigns to stop it, some have protested and some have excercised our right to vote for politicians who care and understand that global warming is truly a danger. That is, unless you’ve got great tits. Oh… and your tits are British. I received a tip (that was a tip, ...

Nekkid Gardening Hurts

Every time I have plans to try to get some work done, someone comes along and throws a wrench (or a cupful of rainbow sprinkles) into it. I am outright blaming Speedcat Hollydale for this one, and I’m not sure exactly what he can do to make up for it. You see, because of him and ...

Jupiter’s ring oddities ‘made in the shade’

The Oddities of the New York City Property Tax Structure
2008-02-14 14:53:00
You would expect that, in a civilized society, those who have more income than they know what to do with would be asked to pay higher property taxes than those struggling to get by. If you've philosophical disagreements with that statement, you would still at least hope that the homes of the rich are taxed at the same rates as the average person. Welcome to New York City. In this city, the value of one's home is just one of many factors determining the property tax rates the owner is expected to pay. Consider the property taxes of this fair city. Rupert Murdoch - who recently bought the Wall Street Journal at a price that was about sixty percent greater than its stock value - has a home in an apartment that he bought several years ago for $44 million. Today, it's probably worth considerably more than its valuation at the time Mr. Murdoch purchased it. Even so, he pays an annual property tax of $55,000. While that may seem like a lot of...
The Oddities of the New York City Property Tax Structure
2008-02-12 15:10:00
It is, in some of the social circles of the super-rich and super-famous, considered a necessary status symbol to have a swanky New York Apartment. You would expect that, in a civilized society, those who have more income than they know what to do with would be asked to pay higher property taxes than those struggling to get by. On the off chance that you are more cynical than that, you might still at least hope that the homes of the mega-rich are taxed at the same rates as the average person. Welcome to New York City. In this city, according to one viewpoint that is often decried as hyper-cynical, the super-rich basically tell others what's going to happen and how it's going to happen. Before you decide that such sentiments are limited to the overly-sensitive feelings of out-of-touch leftists, consider the property taxes of this fair city. Rupert Murdoch - who recently bought the Wall Street Journal at a price that was about sixty percent greater ...

Couple Oddities
2007-10-30 22:24:00
I’m home again yay! The night before last I dreamed that we were on a planet, me and some other people… well, it could have been Earth not sure. And it was covered by a very thick material. And someone was saying how fascinating it was, as we were walking on this material, that it was all one pieces and wrapped around the entire Earth. Hrm. Then when we needed to get off the planet there were these tree like objects, and we hung on and they blasted us off to the spaceship above. It was a wild ride! Earlier in the night I dreamed I was with my sister in some lobby.. doctor or dentist or something like that. And there was a door that was so mis marked it was weird. It said 1st floor, but it really was the 2nd floor. And it had directions that were wrong… I don’t remember so much now, but it was an odd one!

The oddities: The firestorm in california
2007-10-26 14:47:00
Who know’s when will this ever end. Well, this fire may have broken record books, but it certainly exhibits some unusual characteristics that definately cast it apart from other past firestorms: 1) It destroyed 1/10 as much forest area as how much USA clears land in a year. 2) But generated more smoke compared to several coal factories. 3) It’s trail of destruction is almost unpredictable. This fire literally does hit-and-run, leaving some buildings completely untouched, while burning the rest. 4) The fire nicely stops slightly past the Mexico border. Looks like it respects international borders. 5) It required the evacuation of 4 times as much people compared to hurricane Katrina. 6) Evacuation centers are also being evacuated as well. 7) NASA is busy taking photos of the incident upon request, making it one of the most documented firestorms seen from space. 8) Some fires were caused deliberately, some fires were started on accident, combined they do disasterous damag...

Underwater Oddities, Photos
2007-10-13 21:38:00
A crab crawls on the red tentacles of a sea fan in Fiji waters. Sea fans, also known as gorgonians, catch plankton in their polyps, which microscopic zooxanthellae then turn into gorgonian food. Sea fans also provide shelter and camouflage for reef life.Photograph by Tim Laman Majestic in purple, a spotted cleaner shrimp in the waters off Bonaire Island in the Caribbean works hard for its customers. This cleaner shrimp (Periclimenes yucatanicus) associates with a sea anemone and attracts fish from which it cleans and eats detritus such as parasites and algae. Such a symbiotic relationship benefits both the shrimp and the fish.Photograph by Paul Sutherland This close-up of a colony of white-spotted ascidians (Pycnoclavella diminuta) in Indonesian waters resembles aliens ready to feed. Instead, these ascidians, or sea squirts, are filter-feeding animals with one siphon to pull in water and another to discharge it. Adults remain rooted to the same spot their e...

Head Shot: Reggae Instrumentals, Dubs and Other Oddities

Head Shot: Reggae Instrumentals, Dubs and Other OdditiesLabel - HeartbeatRecorded - 1970sStyle - Dub, Reggae, Version, Foundation, Instrumental, Lee Library(review from AMG)A trawl through the vaults of celebrated reggae producer Winston "Niney" Holness yielded this delightful odds-and-sods program of (mostly previously unreleased) dub versions, instrumental tracks, and songs dating from 1970 to 1978. There are a couple of fine cuts on the deathless "Here I Come" rhythm, including a creepy dub version based on Dennis Brown's classic vocal performance, and also dub versions of Niney's own "Rasta No Pickpocket" (rendered here as "Clean Heart Rasta" with a Tony Chin guitar overdub) and "Blood and Fire" (here as "Chapter Ten"). Saxophone legend Tommy McCook leads the Supersonics through a charming rocksteady instrumental titled "Doreth," which then leads, strangely, into the charming "You Can't Get into Zion With Your Big Checkbook" ("It will bounce!"), on which Niney is joined by vo...
