McCain Staffers Take Over Alaska Governor's Office - WTF?
2008-09-20 19:00:00 I'm not making this up. Staffer's of Senator John McCain for President -- I think; it's not his Senate staff is it? That would be illegal, but someone check that -- have taken over Governor Palin's Alaska office. I've never heard of anything like that before. I can't think of a VP candidate that has been so protected against gaffes and errors and yet makes them anyway. Read this editorial by the Alaska Anchorage Daily News: McCain-Palin campaign spokesman Ed O'Callaghan announced that Todd Palin will not comply with a subpoena to testify about his role in troopergate, the Legislature's investigation into whether Palin abused her power in forcing out former public safety commissioner Walt Monegan. O'Callaghan also announced that Alaska's governor is "unlikely" to cooperate with the investigation by the Alaska Legislature about questionable conduct by Alaska's chief executive. Monday, he and campaign sidekick Meg Stapleton stood before Alaskans and defended the of...

Taking Office 2.0 to the Next Level
2008-09-08 15:50:00 The Office 2.0 Conference 2008 is over now, and we've received a lot of feedback. Overall, the conference was a great success, and its content has significantly improved from last year. Yet many attendees pointed out that putting the show together in less than two months is making it very difficult for a lot of people to participate, either as attendees or sponsors. As a result, we've decided to give ourselves a full year to organize the 2009 edition. The location remains the same, dates are set to September 21-23, 2009 (Monday through Wednesday), registration is open ($1,495 until December 31st, 2008), and we will keep our tradition of giving away a mobile device to every paying attendee. Also, we have made some changes to our sponsorship packages in order to simplify things, and make sure that early-stage companies get proper representation. Next year's theme is "The Global Office" and our goal is to gather one representative from as many Global 500 firms, national governm...

Office 2.0 Conference 2009
2008-09-05 13:30:00 While the 2008 edition of the Office 2.0 Conference is still going on, we're already starting to plan for the next one. For the first three editions, we've done everything in less than 2 months, as a way to prove that Office 2.0 tools and the GTD can significantly increase productivity. Today, I think we made our point, and moving forward, we'd like to take the event to the next level, especially with respect to the quality of the online infrastructure we're building to support it. As a result, we decided to give ourselves a full year to organize the 2009 edition. At present time, we're looking at Monday through Wednesday, September 20-23, 2009. Please let us know if you can think of any other event taking place at the same time, or close to it.

Fall TV Preview 2008: THE OFFICE
2008-08-21 17:56:00 By: Lori Kapes [Special Guest Contributor] When we last punched in at Dunder Mifflin: We learned that Jan is pregnant, Jim almost proposed to Pam, Toby retired to Costa Rica, Michael has a new potential love interest in Toby’s replacement, Andy proposed to Angela, and poor Phyllis got the surprise of her life when she saw Angela hooking up with former lover Dwight. Can you believe all that took place over one day at the fictional paper company Dunder Mifflin on NBC’s THE OFFICE? This Season: Jenna Fischer’s character, Pam, got accepted to art school last season and Jim, being the most loveable guy on TV, approved. This season they’ll have to deal with their relationship being long-distance according to Fischer in the August issue of Marie Claire. MAD MEN actor Rich Sommer makes a guest appearance, the duration of his stay isn’t clear but EW’s Michael Ausiello revealed that he plays a fellow art student in Pam’s class, hopefully this doesn’t mean troubled times ahead ...

The World's Most Expensive Office Space

There are three markets within it - the city, West End and Midtown, priced at $129, $259 and $ 119 a sq foot, respectively. In parts of Midtown Manhattan, the going rate for office space is $100 per-sq-ft, per year, according to Cushman & Wakefield. This rate beats London's fourth most expensive market, Canary Wharf, where space is priced at $84 per-sq-ft.

Migrating the Office 2.0 Database to Clearspace
2008-08-13 20:21:00 Our goal is to turn the office20.com community website into a premiere destination for everything Office 2.0. For this reasons, we're currently looking at migrating the Office 2.0 Database to Clearspace. At present time, it's powered by a WordPress server on the front-end, and a Dabble DB database on the back-end. We'll definitely migrate the front-end component, creating a custom Clearspace document for each application and using it as a place holder. But for the back-end, we're not exactly sure. We need an online database that supports JSON for data syndication, and offers the ability to share rows with individual users ? typically the person in charge of marketing at the application's vendor. I don't think Google Docs supports row-level sharing in spreadsheets, and I've not followed the development of Zoho Creator or Zoho DB closely enough to know whether they do or not. Any idea?

Dealmaking at the Office 2.0 Conference
2008-08-13 20:07:00 The Office 2.0 Conference is not really focused on dealmaking, unlike a couple other industry events taking place around the same time. Yet from time to time, something along these lines happen, and we're happy that our little contribution could make a real difference in someone's life. Today, I learned about Jotlet's recent acquisition by Jive Software, which happened as a direct result of Jotlet's participation in last year's Office 2.0 Conference. I'm not in the news breaking business, so I won't tell you what these guys are up to, but I can't wait to see what a good calendar built into Clearspace might look like. This is definitely something that we could have used this year in order to schedule demonstrations between sponsors and attendees. In the meantime, we'll build our own mashup. If you have suggestions on how to do that with a minimum amount of work, drop us a line!

Moderro at the Office 2.0 Conference
2008-08-12 20:12:00 In its original incarnation circa 1996, the concept for a Network Computer (NC) did not really make sense. It offered a fraction of the functionality provided by a regular Personal Computer (PC), at a similar purchase price. But most importantly, nobody really cared. The web was just starting, and the promoters of this new platform (Oracle and Sun Microsystems) found it difficult to make a case for it beyond their common distaste for anything Microsoft. Today, the concept for a Network Computer is back en force. Some call it Web Computer, others Mobile Internet Device, but whatever you call it, it makes perfect sense, now that we can do pretty everything in a plain vanilla web browsers. One of these devices is the Moderro Web PC, and we're happy to announce that the company behind it is joining the Office 2.0 Conference as a Gear Sponsor. If everything goes as planned, the Moderro Web PC should be demonstrated to the public for the very first time during our event, in the Gea...

Intacct at the Office 2.0 Conference
2008-08-12 16:41:00 For the past two years, we've been looking for an accounting application that would be available as a service, would work with any web browser, would support multiple currencies, and could be integrated with Salesforce.com. After much research, we came to the conclusion that only one option was available: Intacct. Today, I am pleased to announce that Monolab, Inc. will deploy Intacct Small Business to manage our conference business, while Monolab|Workspace, Inc. will deploy Intacct Enterprise for managing its upcoming network of workspaces. Intalio is looking at it as well in order to manage its fast growing business (125% year-over-year growth for the past two years). Last but not least, Intacct is joining the Office 2.0 Conference as a Silver Sponsor, and will bring some customers along to present some very cool use cases. Many thanks to Gadi Shamia for his help in getting this partnership off the ground.

Dynamism at the Office 2.0 Conference
2008-08-11 16:55:00 Back in 2001, my good friend Doug Neal introduced me to Dynamism, a US based company importing cool devices from Japan. While nothing can replace regular trips to Akihabara if you're a true gadget lover, frequent visits to the dynamism.com website are the closest match you can get, especially if you're on a budget. This year, I am extremely pleased to announce that the good folks from Dynamism will join us for the Office 2.0 Conference. We will give them the largest table we can fit in the Gear Gallery, and they will demo their coolest gadgets. Many of them cannot be found in any domestic retail stores, hence this will be a great opportunity to discover some new form factors up close. Many thanks to Doug (Neal) for the introduction, and to Doug (Krone) for his participation. We look forward to seeing you both at the conference.

2008-08-09 20:45:00 Two and a half years ago, I started the IT|Redux blog, which primarily covered two topics: Office 2.0 and BPM 2.0. It will host the Office 2.0 Conference taking place every September, and continue the conversation throughout the year. The BPM 2.0 thread will eventually move to a new blog managed by Intalio, where it really belongs. The office20.com website is more than a blog. Our goal is to turn it into the premiere destination for anything Office 2.0.
