I don't necessarily believe that it was a "bad thing" that the two top ranked teams lost, as neither was really a legitimate "championship caliber" team. Seriously... you had your number one team in the nation a three point underdog on a neutral field to a two loss team (they lost by like 50)... and your number two team couldn't beat the 4-5 Pitt team at home. Neither team would have been favored on a neutral field against Ohio State, Georgia, USC, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, or LSU... but yet they would have played for the national championship had they won. But here is where it becomes very strange. The top two teams lose and the next three teams are idle. Common practice in college rankings is that you do not lose your spot in the standings unless you lose.
