Olde Towne East homes 1st Quarter Sales
2008-04-11 21:06:00
It’s been a little while since I’ve updated the midtown Columbus statistics.  I’ve been waiting for more sales, for the new MLS and now I’m still experiencing growing pains as I try to make the new MLS work for me the way I want it to. There is a bit of a learning curve, but I’m getting there. In the meantime, here is a pretty map with all the locations of homes that sold in Olde Towne East, Woodland Park, Bronzeville, Franklin Park and Eastgate in the first quarter of 2008. I’m looking through these listings and I’m getting rid of the bank owned properties, the gutted fixer-uppers and I’m looking to see what homes have been selling for between Main and Mt Vernon, 670 and Nelson Road.  I’m working on tweaking the MLS to perform my map based searches with my definitions of Olde Towne East, the Short North and German Village.  It can be done now, which is very exciting, but it’s taking me a while to get it dow...
More Destruction on the Near East Side - Is it Progress?
2008-01-10 20:10:00
The Camel Bell Inn on East Main Street came down this week as did the rowhouse on the lot of the old Kroger/Salvation Army that once caused so much flipping fuss. I don’t know the history of the Camel Bell building.  I’ve always liked the building but the obvious irony here is that the sign, for ...

Columbus Real Estate Update - Olde Towne East December for sale/sold
2008-01-02 21:43:00
Two very different Park Towers condos sold last month.  One was a studio with 510 sq ft on the 11th floor facing North/West for a paltry $28,500.  The other was an 1854 sq ft 3 bed, 3bath on the 16th floor with a rare updated (but still galley) kitchen for $130,000. This condo has a ...
The Demolition of Bronzeville
2007-12-20 19:01:00
This could be a long and complicated post but I will try to be more general then specific.  Also, to be fair, It’s true that I haven’t contacted anyone at Second Baptist or Rehobeth Temple or Pilgrim Baptist or any of the other churches on the Near East Side to get their opinions or declarations ...
Olde Towne East Homes for Sale / Sold - November Update
2007-12-10 20:52:00
Do you have your Olde Towne East home for sale? Are you frustrated that they buyers seem to have dried up.  Me too.  Take a look at this map that details where the 8 homes were that sold last month on the Near East Side. The highlighted area is more or less what I consider the Greater Olde Towne East area for the purposes of this blog, though I often include most of Greater Bronzeville which goes north to Mt Vernon Avenue.  Nothing in Olde Towne East proper, Nothing from Broad to Long or up and down Eastwood Ave or Woodland Park and one home in the Franklin Park area, nothing on Bryden Road or from Bryden to Main streets. The home in the Franklin Park area had 3 bedrooms and over 1600 sq ft.  It was a bank short sale for a crazy $67,000 — even if it does back up to the RR tracks. The good news is that there are 213 active listings between Downtown Columbus and Bexley, 670 and I-70.  Come pick yours while the picking is good. Share This
Home Tours - Olde Oaks and Olde Towne East
2007-12-03 20:42:00
Yesterday was the Olde Towne East holiday tour of homes.  This year’s tour was focused up and down Long Street with Homes North of Broad.  It was a dismal day for a home tour, but people were enjoying themselves as they toured the historic Columbus Homes on tour.    This coming weekend is the Olde Oaks Holiday ...
Olde Towne East?s Street Car Barn to rise Again
2007-12-01 03:30:00
The Columbus Compact is currently in contract to purchase the 3.2 acres at the NorthEast corner of Oak and Kelton known as the Street Car Barn. The property was once used to store, turn around and maintain Columbus’ original Street Cars. Get great free widgets at <a href=”http://www.widgetbo-x.com”>Widgetbox&#-38;lt;/a>! Built in the 1880s, the five or so ...
The Lincoln Theater is Really getting some work done
2007-11-30 21:19:00
While not a whole lot seems to be going on inside the theater, there is a whole lot going on outside.  Today there must have been 6 giant city trucks all around the perimeter and up and down Long Street and the alley behind.  I think the city is mostly still working on infrastructure issues.  ...
Olde Towne East - Homes Sold - October Update
2007-11-13 19:38:00
Now that October is firmly in the books, let’s see what happened in Columbus’ near East Neighborhoods.  Again, not a whole lot with the 7 houses that fall within my boundaries selling for an average of $58.42/sq ft.  The good news was the $396,500 on Miami.  It’s great to see North of Broad numbers like ...
Fishy Flip?
2007-11-13 19:11:00
When I was reviewing what sold last month in the Greater Olde Towne East area, I came across this listing that sold for $217,000.  That seemed a little high for the address, so I clicked over the auditor’s page and found this picture for that address.  Last month’s Seller paid $24,000 for the property in April ...
Oak Street to Become Columbus Community Reinvestment Area
2007-10-16 21:50:00
I think it’s pretty odd that the city would declare only one street a CRA, but it’s not a bad idea with all the storefronts that exist on Oak.  I really believe that the future vibrancy and sustainability of the Olde Towne East area depends, in large part, on the viability of these storefronts being ...
Olde Towne East September Market Re-cap
2007-10-02 19:21:00
I can almost say that nothing happened last month. But, remember, when we’re talking about Columbus Neighborhoods, we’re talking about relatively small geographic locations.  Olde Towne East, The Short North, German Village, these are all just small areas a few square miles put together.   For the purposes of the blog and for conveying Real Estate Information ...
Are Auctions the new ?IT? Girl? How about a Broad Street Mansion for $1 ?
2007-09-19 20:17:00
The last two Sundays, this Gorgeous home on East Broad Street across from Franklin Park has been open for viewing in light of tonight’s auction.  It is a tremendous showplace of a home. And, while it could use some updating and sprucing up, its Eight Bedrooms and eight baths could be yours for $1.00. Of course, that’s ...

Columbus Real Estate Update - August - Olde Towne East
2007-09-10 22:22:00
It was a quiet month in Lake Olde Towne East, my home town.  Five homes sold on the near east side from Mt. Vernon to Main Streets and I-71 to Nelson, my de facto Olde Towne East definition for the purposes of recaps, statistics and the blog in general. The least expensive home? An 1800 sq ft ...
Bryden Road - Sold under 30 days
2007-08-31 21:45:00
Don’t let anybody tell you that the Columbus Real Estate Market is dead.  If the right house has the right price and is marketed well, it’ll sell.  My seller had this Bryden Road home on the market about 2 weeks, we received an offer and closed today, 2 weeks later.  Yes, by all means, please ...
Black Creek Bistro - Olde Towne East?s Best Bet
2007-08-29 19:42:00
For Food, Drink and ambiance.  We’ve not had or heard of anything but great experiences here at Black Creek Bistro, at the corner of Oak and Parsons Avenue.  Since I moved to the neighborhood, this location has housed several different eateries, most notably Elemental.  I hope Black Creek Bistro has a long, long stay. See the ...
This Week in Columbus Real Estate - Olde Towne East
2007-07-27 22:29:00
Surely the best listing to come out of the greater Olde Towne East area is my new listing at 1771 Bryden Road.  A two bedroom, 1.5 bath brick ranch with 1222 square feet and a super nice kitchen, semi finished basement, all new bath on a quarter acre lot surrounded by big Giant homes for ...

You may be surprised to find out that right now the Greater Olde Towne East-Woodland Park-Bronzeville-Franklin Park area has 20 properties over $300,000 on the market.  That includes the 12,000 sq ft mansion in contract on the corner of Broad and Woodland across from Franklin Park and Park Towers respectively.  It?s been on the market pretty ...
Olde Towne East Includes ?-
2007-07-10 20:33:00
This Olde Towne East Section of my blog also includes Bronzeville, Woodland Park, Franklin Park, Olde Oaks, Ides Place and South of Main too.  While I certainly realize it’s not fair or accurate to lump them all together, the homes are old and they’re in town, and they’re East.  Grandview includes Marble Cliff, Clintonville includes ...
