I am in fact ambivalent about a success built on money from the Morons' Tax, aka the National Lottery. On the one hand I do not approve of lotteries but OTOH I do not apporove of tax being spent on sport.My one mystification about the Olympics is why are we GB and not UK for we have team members from Northern Ireland which is part of the UK not GB.

IAAF Recommends Marion Jones be Stripped of Olympic Medals
2007-11-24 00:11:00 If the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Council recommendations are followed, Marion Jones will be required to return her Olympic medals.The IAAF also formerly disqualified Jones from all the events she participated in from September 1, 2000 and on. Unfortunately, her teammates in the U.S. women's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams have also been recommended to be disqualified by the organization to the International Olympic Committee. They also said the IOC should "...insist on the return of all medals and diplomas.”Jones, who declared bankruptcy earlier this year, will also be requested to pay back the approximate $700,000 she won in competitions during that time period.

In keeping with this motif, the medals have jade in them for the first time in Olympic history.The front side has the traditional Greek symbol for the Games: the goddess of victory Nike in the Panathinaikos Stadium (see left).On the reverse side, according to the official web site of the Games, "the medals are inlaid with jade with the Beijing Games emblem engraved in the metal centerpiece."The medal box, ribbons, and Olympic certificates also reflect a Chinese sensibility.The box is made out of wooden lacquer and is rectangular in shape.
