2008-03-15 10:26:00 Leonardo DiCaprio’s gal, Bar Rafaeli was looking f’ing stunning like always at Seeds of Peace to honor NY Mets general manager Omar Minaya. I think she’s an upgrade from Gisele Bundchen, bigtime.

Will The Real Omar Minaya Please Stand Up
2007-12-08 18:42:00 Holy, what is going on with the Mets? Let's start out with a question to Mets fans: give me 5 reasons why the Mets blew it last year? Now did any of those reasons involve catching? Hmm, last time I checked Paul Lo Duca was one of the only players on the Mets who DID NOT choke in September,

Mets GM Omar Minaya says he won?t trade All-Star SS Jose Reyes (AP)
2007-11-30 03:31:00 The New York Mets need pitching and they’d love to land Johan Santana. Not enough to trade star shortstop Jose Reyes, though. “Jose Reyes is one of our core players,” general manager Omar Minaya said Thursday. “I don’t see us trading Jose Reyes for one of those guys being mentioned. It just doesn’t make sense ...

The Mets Apologize [J. Mark English]
2007-10-02 05:47:00 Dear Mets Fan: All of us at the Mets are bitterly disappointed in failing to achieve our collective goal of building upon last year's success. We did not meet our organization's expectations -- or yours. Everyone at Shea feels the same range of emotions as you -- our loyal fans -- and we know we have let you down. We wanted to thank you for your record-breaking support of our team this year. Equally important, Ownership will continue its commitment in providing the resources necessary to field a championship team. Omar will be meeting with Ownership shortly to present his plan on addressing our shortcomings so that we can achieve our goal of winning championships in 2008 and beyond. You deserve better results. Many thanks again for your record-breaking support. http://img68.imageshack.us/my.p-hp?image=amerlegendslogo5wj.gif-

Omar Minaya Trade Profile (Mets)
2007-08-05 14:00:00 Omar Minaya's made so many trades in recent years that I decided to break up his trade profile into two posts. I covered his 25 deals as the Expos' GM here. Minaya jumped to the large-market Mets in 2004, and by my count has made another 25 trades. Download new_york_mets_minaya.xls; it should be Minaya's entire trade record. Minaya kicked off the new year in 2005 by sending backup catcher Vance Wilson to the Tigers for infielder Anderson Hernandez. The Mets already had Mike Piazza and Ramon Castro on hand to catch that year. Wilson went on to become a 150 AB-a-year backup for the Tigers with mixed results, while Hernandez has gotten a few cups of coffee as a glove man. I'll call it a wash. Not thrilled about switching to right field to accomodate Carlos Beltran, Mike Cameron requested a trade in January of 2005. Though Cameron was coming off wrist surgery, the Diamondbacks had interest. The A's liked him too, and a deal was on...

Omar Minaya Trade Profile (Expos)
2007-07-03 07:58:00 Omar Minaya has done so much wheeling and dealing through the years that I've decided to break up his trade profile into two parts - Expos and Mets. The vast difference between the two situations is another reason to separate the posts. Click here to Download new_york_mets_minaya.xls, an Excel file with Minaya's entire trade history. The 2002-04 Expos were owned by the other 29 baseball teams, with Minaya at the helm. It was a unique and bizarre situation. Probably a conflict of interest, too - Bud Selig did not allow the playoff-contending 2003 Expos to add September call-ups that year because it was deemed too expensive. Anyway, Minaya made 25 trades in his three years as GM of the Expos. Let's analyze some of the bigger deals. 3/23/02: Sent Guillermo Mota to the Dodgers for Matt Herges. Since Mota went on to have a couple of dominant seasons for L.A., we'll give the advantage here to Dan Evans, then the Dodgers' GM. Herges ...

SI's Story of the Man Known as O [J. Mark English]
2007-06-16 13:50:00 Gary Smith of Sports Illustrated has written a fantastic piece detailing the rise of Omar Minaya, general manager of the New York Mets. Here are a few excerpts, but make sure you read the whole thing:Once upon a time, in a castle he had rebuilt from ruins, there lived the most fortunate of men. At dusk on spring and summer days, he could be found gazing from its ramparts. From there he could see what other men surrendered in order to reach such heights. He could see himself. His castle was a baseball stadium. As the sun sank, he would walk up a ramp instead of the elevator that others of his rank preferred, pause and see his whole life unfurled. He could see the wonderful team he'd assembled, men from faraway lands who played with togetherness and joy. He could see the neighborhood he had grown up in as an immigrant, the fields on which he'd played, the wall he used to sneak over to slip into the castle as a boy. He could see the metallic orb rising from the World's Fair groun...
