On My Mind

Not just a weight on my mind
2008-05-11 05:37:00
The girls rabbiting on about love handles didn?t hurt my pride ?" what?s left to hurt when you?ve been prodded and poked in a hospital ?" but made me take a proper look at myself. Now I?m less hooked on the idea of Acomplia, I can look in the mirror and not flinch. I?ve got spectacular scars on my chest with all the stitches out. But I?ve really gone to seed. I?m quite tall and big boned. Now, I?m looking like a half-melted candle with my head sticking up as the wick. Molly came round, so I asked her how soon I could do something about it. I was thinking I?d have to wait weeks, but she said my asking was all she needed. I?d had my head so far up Acomplia?s ass, it never occurred to me I should be doing something. She?d arrange for hydrotherapy and more. I?d this picture of a spa bath. Like I?d lie in this tub with lots of water jets pummelling my muscles. Molly has this look. It?s kind of like contempt only you get the idea she thinks even that?s too good for you ?" it?s the look sh...
Summer travel planning on my mind
2008-05-10 01:52:00
Time to start traveling again with 2009 just around the corner. This summer we plan to visit Costa Rica for a two week get away. Last time my vacation plans headed south was my visit to Chichén Itzá. Life introduces these wonderful moments to help you appreciate the power of Coca-Cola. It was so hot ...

Tibet on my mind..
2008-04-23 11:37:00
Tibet. The land of Buddha. The land of peace. Embroiled now in a strife, that we all hope ends. Ends with the hope of Tibet regaining its freedom. Not just freedom of state, but also freedom of thought, freedom of expression and the freedom to nurture its ancient culture and heritage. One exquisite, but rare artifact from Tibet is its furniture. The average Tibetan household never had much furniture, and whatever furniture was crafted, was crafted for the monasteries and the royalty. A lot of original pieces were destroyed during the cultural revolution, but you can find original antiques through some genuine dealers. It's a question of debate whether these dealers are profiteering from Tibetan heritage or in a way actually helping preserve Tibetan heritage that would otherwise have been lost. Reproductions can of course be found more commonly in the market these days Tibetan furniture typically had only a few utility items. You will find Buddhist altar tables, storage cabinets, Cho...

Sorting upon the return home?Soyinka on my mind
2008-03-02 20:23:00
I have returned from a journey. This journey has moved me further along my journey. Winter Woods. Then creeks and ponds. Rolling Illinois borderlands. More winter wood flash past. Small Illinois towns where one could stop awhile and spend time in geneological research. I could say I got lost. I could say I missed the turn. ...
Georgia On My Mind
2008-02-19 06:00:00
I've been thinking about what I shoud say about the decision of the school board of Greene County, Georgia, to switch exclusively to single-sex academic classes.  (The students will still ride the same buses to school and the sports and band programs will remained mixed, but--from what I've read about it anyway--the academic classes will be changed to a single-gender format.)  The esteemed Dr. Leonard Sax, who generally applauds single-sex initiatives as head of the National Association for Single-Sex Public Education, has criticized the plan for not allowing students/parents to opt-out of the single-sex program, and suggested that it may be illegal. I truly do understand Dr. Sax's point and he's probably right--single-sex classes are an option, not a one-size-fits-all solution.  And it may well be a setback to the cause of allowing more single-sex programs nationwide to force students in one district to go only to single-sex schools.  (The legal issues are a...
On My Mind
2008-02-17 20:21:00
It’s been a few days since I’ve written a “real” post — ironic for me, since I’m usually heavy on the words and light on the photos. It’s like we’ve all shifted into that Parallelland that I wrote about a few days back. Ah, Paralelland. So, in no particular order, here’s what’s on my mind: I still don’t know who to vote for. Now that it’s become rather obvious that the Texas primary on March 4 will actually mean something, my deer-in-the-headlights approach to choosing a candidate seems like it’s a little less advisable, and yet … {stares at the pretty lights .. it’s so beautiful! … crash!} I decided, on the recommendation of a friend who is having problems making up her mind like I am, to visit Glass Booth, a site that features one of those Cosmo-type quizzes where you rank the relative importance of a number of issues, choose your stance on them, and then it splits out a list of c...
Georgia on my Mind
2008-02-07 04:20:00
Kalpana SahniSome countries attract one instantly. Georgia seduces you the moment you set foot on its soil: the snow-capped Caucasus mountains and the river torrents surging through its green valleys, the language which seems to echo the rivers with its multiple consonants that rain down on hapless tourists: Mtskheta, Mtkvari and Chkheidze... And then there are the Georgian people! In India a beautiful girl is often referred to as a Georgian fairy (gurji pari). And rightly so. This is a nation, famed for its handsome men and beautiful women, a nation that not so very long ago was in the forefront of artistic creativity. For me, however, it is the Georgian art of raising toasts that is unique. I have yet to come across any other place where a toast raised at a meal is sheer poetry. Inevitably it extends to psychology and the soaring heights of philosophy. This is a gift shafolksred by one and all in this land of unlimited human love and generosity, a country of proud people, scintill...
Mountains On My Mind
2008-01-30 03:35:00
I live in an area between two beautiful mountains. San Gorgonio and San Jacinto. Their heads have been in the clouds and I keep forgetting to bring my camera when I’m out. So here’s a weird, random illustration of one of them…
On My Mind
2008-01-19 06:56:00
There?s a whole lot on my mind. None of it is negative though. Everything is so damn positive at the moment. From the ROM to buffet, everything looks good. The looks of it, the buffet will probably turn out to a liquid buffet. My friends drink a whole lot of beer. Seriously, I have not met another group of boys/men that can consume so much beer in one drinking session. The Punggol boys, Tattoo Boys and the Nightlife boys will unite on the 22nd for one big beer drinking carnival! May god have mercy on all our livers! As the 22nd approaches, more and more text messages are being sent to yours truly. These text messages act like a countdown clock. Here?s a text message I received this morning. ?Kotek! 4 days more to go?How?s the feeling brudder?!? Some of these brudders have offered to have one last SINGLE drink before the big day. I did the smart thing by rejecting the kind offer. We all know what would happen if I accepted the last drink offer. I?d wake up with the worse possible hang...
Insurance is always on my mind
2008-01-14 11:53:00
Everyday is a new day.  Everyday is a remember to check pricing on insurance day.  Insurance, is a form of risk management primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent loss. Insurance is defined as the equitable transfer of the risk of a loss, from one entity to another, in exchange for a premium.  Pay a premium would not be so bad but they keep changing the on a whim. With a 16 year old and upcoming 15 year old that wants to drive, you have to almost research and price insurance like a stock. Reason: The cost changes that take place with adding new drivers on your insurance.  Lets not even talk about if someone gets a speeding or moving violation ticket or never wish this on anyone a vehicle accident. Now with quoting mania available on the internet, the folks at InsuranceFinder.com are now providing that service that will allow you to do Insurance Quotes comparisons when you are looking for all types of insurance.  Count me in on this site I may...
Always On My Mind

i couldn't help but miss him dearly. it feels like a long time since i last spoke to him. longer still when i last saw him. it feels like an eternity has passed since i last kiss him.maybe sometime he may feel like he's second best in my life, what with my busy schedule and long shifts, but i thought that he should know that he's always on my mind. and that i'm always thinking of him and not a minute passes without him in my thoughts. and no...he's never second best in my life. the world stops whenever he's around.maybe i rarely get to spend the time with him, but whatever precious moments given to me by him i would take it without hesitation. but yesterday when he asked me out, i turn him down. he had the time to spend, but i didn't know, i thought it would only be an hour or so and then he had to leave. i didn't want that. i want him to spend the night with me.utterly impossible.he's on leave. recuperating. baby if you were mine, i would take the time to nurse you back to...

Heaven Help Us AllTwo accomplished, hard to classify musicians with a mutual history in street music spent some time together making what they thought would just be a "demo." But the results were too good, and while vocalist Madeleine Peyrous was already on her way to fame with a big contract deal and plenty of tour dates, her harmonica-wielding collaborator was still flying below the radar screen. So William Galison added a few more tracks and the result is the magnificent Got You On My Mind (2004, Waking Up Music). Initially available only through Galison's website, the recording has finally found the light of day, aka Amazon.com and other distributors.I admit that, until a few months ago, I was a total stranger to t...
Moving is Always on My Mind
2007-12-10 17:13:00
Readers my blogs know that I always have moving on my mind. We've moved 10 times in our marriage so far and although I would be open to another move immediately, my heart and head have been in a battle over the past two years as roots have grown here in the Midwest that I had no intention of happening. Oh, it's not me that has grown roots... but the two oldest kids have. My daughter is a

Udon Noodles on my Mind
2007-11-24 08:43:00
Is there anyone who hasn't thought of noodles this month? I know I have been rather obsessed. My body went through contortions to capture images of noodles. I told myself that some of the positions were actually yoga. I was too lazy to set up my tripod and the light was failing fast so I set the exposure to 1/20s, put the camera on a 10 second timer, composed the shot and told those overstretched twisted muscles to be still, inhaled, pressed the shutter and held my breath, and slowly exhaled and relaxed but only after the camera had captured this...and this...Not bad for tripodless work, eh?! Of course, I used neither - actually there were hundreds I didn't use - as my entry for CLICK. Some of you might remember, of course, but for the benefit of those who don't, I sent this in.I have had this packet of Udon noodles for quite a while now. I've been going back and forth on trying to figure out what to do with them. Do I try and deconstruct Siamese Plate's delicately spiced udon n...
Carolina on My Mind
2007-11-19 18:20:00
The primary process, in place since 1912, has long been controversial. Larger states resent the influence tiny New Hampshire and Iowa have in deciding who the eventual nominees for each party will be. But it's not just the smaller populations that bug party bosses.
A FEW THINGS ON MY MIND
2007-11-19 13:50:00
CHRISTMAS TREES: I asked Lea if we could put up the Christmas tree before Thanksgiving and she said "No! Wait till after Thanksgiving." We even had a poll on TreyMorgan.net to see if I should get to. The final tally came out to "59 for and 52 against." May I just say you 52 "against" people are party-poopers. Lea actually relented and told me I could put up the tree if I wanted, but believe it or not, we just haven't had time. We're hoping to get it done this weekend. I can't wait.THANKSGIVING: We're headed to Amarillo this weekend for Thanksgiving with Lea's family. We swap out having Thanksgiving and Christmas with each family every year. I'm looking forward to a plate full of turkey, dressing (my favorite) and cranberry sauce. Thankfully we'll plan the meal around the Dallas Cowboy football game.COWBOYS: We had about 15 high school kids over at our house last night watching the Dallas Cowboys game. Wow, can they ever get loud when something good happens. Who would have eve...
Swarovski on My Mind
2007-10-26 09:47:00
SwarovskiAn evening get together or big parties are quite dull and boring without any sparkle and shine. And so is your look if you go dressed up all Plain Jane to such a high profile gathering. So leave the Plain Jane back in your closet and bring out that shimmering black evening gown out of your wardrobe. If you havent got any shimmer on your dresses, the put some Swarovski in a pattern and make your dress look fit for the celebrities. As for the jewellery, you will do just fine with some Swarovski studded necklace and earpieces. You can also wear them in your tiaras or belts to twinkle and glitter among the crowd. Now comes the make up – you know the best make up to go with your dress and your look. But did you know you can spice up your look with Swarovski? Yes you can add stars to your eyes and make them look dazzling, you can put tiny crystals of Swarovski on your neck and highlight it better. There is so much you can do with Swarovski. Just experiment and shine on, everywher...

Cinestesia on my mind
2007-10-08 15:03:00
Clarence Thomas Was On My Mind
2007-10-06 04:54:00
I woke up in a bad mood this morning. I had a dream that I had finally lost my mind for good. I recall screaming and yelling and escorted from the building after talking to the bank on the phone and being told that the Attorney General had frozen my account. I then ran over a fire hydrant in a car I drove (badly) via remote control  and challenged the police and an angry mob featuring an extremely obese cop with a hypodermic needle for me. I didn't care if they killed me at first then I changed my mind and decided to run for it. I outran all of them but one or two. They finally forgot why they were chasing me. The colors were vivid reds, greens, browns, and the sun came out as the water stopped coming down. The next thing I remember was awakening with the thought in my mind of I hate Clarence Thomas. How is that for crazy? I haven't been able to get that thought out of my mind. I actually began to start to like Justice Thomas for the first time after viewing some of his...

Saag on my mind
2007-10-04 17:49:00
It doesn't take much for me to crave for greens - quite surprising given I used to run away every time my mum made spinach when I was a kid. All that changed once I came to the States and started my trysts with cooking! I totally fell in love with all greens - spinach, mustard, collard, bok choy, methi. Not to mention the new favorites - beet, broccoli rabe, nettle, the list goes on!Since S&S are swamped with the doggies and Stephanie is still recovering from her flu, figured some saag would work wonders for her :) After getting through my crazy car misadventures last night, I needed to make something that wasn't time intensive. Lentils & greens, can't go wrong with those!Daal Saag (4 generous servings)=========1 cup tuar daal1 cup masoor daal1 bunch baby spinach - chopped1/2 bunch collard greens - chopped1 onion - minced1 T grated ginger1 t turmeric1.5 t black mustard seeds1 t jeera (cumin seeds)2 red chillies1 t sesame oilsalt1/4 cup buttermilk1 t saffronCook the daals ...

It's Wednesday & I have too much on my mind
2007-08-29 19:36:00
Okay, so this post may or may not turn out fabulous because, I have too many damn things going on at one time.I am cleaning out bags of items that are from my cleaning days.I clean and go room to room and put items that are out of place into bags until I go through them to get them organized and lets just say I have four on my bed right now and am pretty ticked the flip off.Other than that I am washing the laundry of my two youngest kids and folding it.Another thing I am washing all the bedding for the two oldest kids and damn it they are going to hang that stuff outside. It is nice and warm and breezy and well my dryer is probably screaming at this point.Plus lets just note that I have to start dinner in a hot minute before the old man comes in here rambling on about his fabulous day at work and seeing the world outside this box I call home.* I think I will make EMPANADAS *** Note I do not make the dough home made. I go the the Spanish section of my grocers freezer and they have th...

I've Got Marriage on My Mind by Shalene
2007-08-29 16:20:00
In my efforts to be ready for the marriage of my friend and her fiance, I must admit that I'm thinking about marriage quite a bit. I'm thinking about the fact that Christian divorce rates are actually, in come cases, higher than that of non-Christians! I'm thinking that there must be something that we're not remembering. I'm thinking about my own marriage and how blessed we are to have such a strong marriage, seven years after we met, especially with the way it started out.My husband and I were not believers when we met. My divorce from my first spouse was not even final yet (we had only been separated for a year.) My husband's (to- be) divorce was not final yet either. And yet, we began a relationship that included premarital sex. We had a child together out of wedlock, and we lived together before marriage. Now add all those together with the simple fact that it was to be a second marriage for both of us, and it would seem that it was doomed from the start. And it could have...

Unless you're from around here you do not truly understand the fervency with which folks follow football in the South. It is common knowledge that anyone moving into my home State of Alabama is required to claim Alabama or Auburn as their team of choice at the border. Upon choosing one side or the other the new adherent pays tithe and worships daily at their respective altars.I'm a Bama guy personally. You'll find that Cameron is an Auburn guy. My family has been Crimson for 100 years, and will continue to be so. I'm loyal to them; anything else feels just plain unnatural. Football in the South is a yearly clan war, beautiful and violent. There is no mixing of sides. Houses are divided in the name of the team, and you know what? It's beautiful. Not so in politics. Although some seem to think so.As you can tell, I'm a big supporter of Ron Paul's candidacy for the White House. I like his ideas. His old-school approach to Constitutionalism and reason are classic, and needed. You m...

The Glorious Guest Post: San Francisco, On My Mind...
2007-05-09 01:04:00
Hello, friends. My name is Ted. By this point, you probably know that I do most of my word-smithing over at this site, but occasionally I contribute elsewhere, such as Sports Flow. Today, I'm doing just that, with a look at the Bay Area's Athletic Renaissance. It's a bad time to live in Dallas - think Romo's lack of ability to grab a snap, Dirk's proven ability to become a 3rd grade school girl in the playoffs, and the Rangers in general - or Houston (the Texans as a whole, T-Mac this postseason, and the current state of the Astros) - or even Washington (the Skins were laughable this past season, the Nats might break the single-season loss record, and the Wizards were swept in Round 1).
