On Reading Books
2008-03-30 12:53:00 Lazy as I am, I still get to read from time to time. Except that these days I read really slow...so slow that I finished Jonathan Livingston in 5 days and it's a short book (with tons of pictures!).Anyway, before reading that book I was reading THE JUNGLE BOOKS and before that I was reading a collected short stories by CHINUA ACHEBE. I didn't get the chance to finish both.I didn't finish THE JUNGLE BOOKS because I got lazy (I'm sure my readers are gonna get lazy on reading this blog..hmmnp). And well I got lazy because I found a lot of typographical error in the book! Darn! maybe that's why it's on sale! It cost me almost a dollar to buy that book and what's weird is that it's a Barnes and Noble book...isn't that a big book company and shouldn't they proofread books before printing more of that? Or is it because there were a lot of errors that they decided to ship it in the Philippines, so that (at least) they would earn money?I hate hate hate typographical errors in books...

The Internet's Affect on Reading Habits
2007-11-30 14:30:00 The internet has reduced many of our attention spans. The tumblelog genre is a case in point. But Tiffany Sanders has noticed that the internet has also encouraged her to read more deeply. She?s actually using hyperlinks in articles to inform herself about something and then return to the article.
On Reading
2007-09-08 12:20:00 Reading Reader?s Digest August issue? On an article about migraine: ?Migraine is good for the memory?people with migraine suffer less memory loss over time than the unaffected.? It makes me think of Ai. ;-) On a quote from Tony Blair: ?A simple way to take the measure of a country is to look at how many want in?and how many want out.? I think of you, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. >:-| On a joke by Shelagh Laidlaw: The day after delivering my 14-pound 2-ounce son, I was resting in the hospital room when a nurse wheeled in my new roommate. ?And there?s Mrs. Laidlaw,? the nurse said. ?You know the one I told you about who delivered a toddler yesterday.? I remember my sister giving birth to her youngest son. Hihi. :hide:
Reflections On Reading
2007-09-03 19:48:00 Following a few frantic days of injury trauma and transfer deadlines, Alan Curbishley can now allow himself to smile as he heads into international week, buoyed by the sight of his Hammers sitting in 11th spot in the Premiership. Speaking on the official site, Curbishley declared: "The win at Reading was a great result for us after a bad week in which we saw Kieron Dyer get a very nasty injury. Compared to last season, a totally different side turned up, but the events of January weren't the spur because we came here knowing that we already had some good away form behind us. The defence gave us a base and we got a good start thanks to a fantastic goal from Craig Bellamy, which settled it all down but after that I was getting a bit frustrated because we needed to finish the game off."Matty Etherington scored a brace to help the Hammers to a convincing 3-0 victory and although he did not play the last time the two teams met he still understood how important it was to put that result ...

Good non-convention Reading Green coverage
2007-07-16 01:56:00 In an article at the the Reading Eagle, Jennaro Pullano announced that he is running for Mayor of Reading, PA. In this announcement, made on July 6th, Pullano says that he believes that Reading needs more police focus on community based policing instead of arrests to drive drug dealers off the streets. Sorry Jennaro, they are not leaving. Demand will be supplied, but I agree that we need such commerce to not threaten communities and neighborhoods. Good luck to you!
On reading
2007-07-08 15:44:00 The Daily Advertiser looks - once again - into the matter of children and reading. Amanda Harris wonders, 'Will kids read Brontë in the Harry Potter age?'On the other hand, forcing a child to read a book doesn't necessarily make for more voracious readers, Landrum said, pointing to her own experience with her son."Once he finished Jane Eyre it was like pulling teeth for him to read again," she said. "And he didn't pick up a book again for a long time."Compulsory reading is a tricky matter. We sympathise with the children inasmuch as we don't like to be made to read either, but it's also true that some of these books will become favourites for some of the children. While discussing this matter previously we have read of children - girls mainly - who end up loving the plot. We believe the actual key to the matter lies in how the book is explained and its theory taught by the teacher and the way books are approached at home.On a somewhat related note, Spanish writer Espido Freir...
