LONDON, ONTARIO E IL TAMIGI, ANZI THE THAMES.
2011-11-14 07:20:00 L?autunno inoltrato invita a stare in casa a leggere.
Ontario Travel - Peterborough: The Peterborough Farmers Market, Lunch on Hu
2011-06-13 16:00:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: After my brief stay in Peterborough over the July long weekend I decided to head back there to explore this travel region in greater detail. I have always liked the Kawartha Region, with its beautiful lakes and rolling hills, and equally importantly, I always appreciate its easy reachability and proximity to Toronto. It takes just about an hour and half to leave the Big Smoke behind and reach the serene countryside and jewel-blue lakes of the Kawartha Region. So on August 4, 2010 I set off on a 3-day adventure to explore more of this popular vacation region. I arrived mid-morning at my home for the next two days: the Golden Pathways Bed and Breakfast where dynamic owner Cora Whittington welcomed me like an old friend. We had already met earlier in July of this year when I had spent two nights at her relaxing country retreat.Rate and Review : Ontario Travel - Peterborough: The Peterborough Farmers Market, Lunch on Hunter Street and a Cruise

As MMA Arrives in Ontario, Anti-MMA Voices Surface
2011-03-07 15:15:00 By Michael David Smith We’re used to it by now. Those of us who love mixed martial arts have come to accept that our sport will be subjected to ignorant, unfair commentary from people who don’t understand it and don’t care to understand it, and that the anti-MMA voices will grow particularly loud any time ...
Ontario Wildlife
2010-10-28 00:33:00 One of the things I was looking forward to doing when I got back to Canada was taking photographs of Ontario's wildlife. Tokyo doesn't have much in the way of wild animals, unless you consider pigeons, crows and cockroaches exciting photography subjects. Anyway I've been back for a month now and haven't been disappointed. Here are some of the more common, and easily seen, subjects around me...

Ontario's government agreed to begin formally regulating mixed martial arts bouts in 2011, the Toronto Sun reports. The move comes less than three months after UFC announced the opening of an office in Toronto, Ontario's capital and the most populated metro region in Canada. Zuffa, UFC's parent company, has been holding events in Canada since April 2008, when its Montreal debut drew a live crowd of more than 21,000 to set a North American attendance record for the sport. Since then, UFC and WEC events have been held in...

Investing in London Ontario Real Estate
2009-10-16 02:23:00 For those interested in investing in London Ontario real estate (and may be considering a London Ontario property manager such as BrodylanWhite Property Management) you may take comfort in Scotiabank’ recent forecast. Scotiabank’s most recent Global Economic Research release, Scotiabank confidently sees a global housing recovery. Specifically, Adrienne Warren of Scotiabank proclaims that the global real estate markets are showing tentative but growing signs of stabilization. Despite the fact that real home prices are still lower than last year, several countries saw their home prices rise. And yes, Canada is one of those countries. Warren sees Canada continue to build momentum, and for the global housing scene she writes “looking ahead we anticipate a gradual synchronized improvement in housing activity in most economies, supported by highly stimulative policy initiatives – fiscal stimulus and historically low borrowing costs – that are like...
Thoughts on the London Ontario Housing Market
2009-10-05 22:14:00 According to the London Free Press News Release, September 2009 further demonstrated a strengthening in the local London Ontario housing market. Despite the many reported layoffs in London and area, September 2009 proved to be the third best month ever for sales. Inching higher is the home prices, up 0.5% with the average price now hitting $213,376 for a home in London Ontario and area. Hank Daniszewski adds more in his London Free Press article below: The London area real estate market continued to show signs of recovery in September, chalking up the third best sales total for the month. The London and St. Thomas Association of Realtors (LSTAR) said 572 detached homes and 136 condos sold last month. Total sales were down 7.8% from the 769 units sold in September last year. But LSTAR president Joe Hough said last September’s sales set an unexpected record for the month and came just before the market went into a prolonged downturn. “That was our last hurrah. It was...

Big Deal: Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) Switches to Paper Bags, Ma
2008-05-28 13:00:00 When it comes to purchasing alcoholic bevvies in our home province, there is only one game in town and that is the retail equivalent of Dodge Ball, the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO). When Ontarians speak of going to "The Beer Store", or "The Liquor Store" it is not due to some inherent Canadian fondness for speaking in generalities, but an actual trademark reflecting the incredible heights of the government's creativity. The LCBO holds a government monopoly over the sale of alcohol. To suggest that this should be otherwise is practically a form of apostasy and categorically dismissed not only by the folks who benefit from such an arrangement (the cashiers who lug your cold ones out of storage for $29 an hour in the case of the Beer Store), but by digit waggers who believe that corner store hawkers would be less than diligent about checking for ID (kinda like R Kelly) and that society would descend into oil-drum fire burning, Hobbesian lawlessness.Of course, these are the sa...

Smokers beware: Ontario to enact auto smoking ban to protect children
2008-05-02 21:02:00 Smokers beware: Ontario to enact auto smoking ban to protect children The government of Ontario introduced a bill last Wednesday that calls for a smoking ban in cars when children are present. If the legislation is made into law, it will make it illegal to smoke in any vehicle while a person 16 years old or younger is a passenger. Moreover, the proposal covers pretty much any scenario — whether the car is moving or stationary and would apply even if a smoker had a window, sunroof, roof, door or other feature open. The fine for such an offense would be 250 Canadian dollars. Ontario would not be the first to enact such a law as Nova Scotia, Yukon, Arkansas, California, Maine, Louisiana, Puerto Rico, South Australia and Tasmania already have similar legislation in place, according to Canadian Driver.

UAW strike at American Axle forces GM to eliminate shift at Ontario plant
2008-04-22 00:48:00 UAW strike at American Axle forces GM to eliminate shift at Ontario plant The UAW strike at American Axle continues to be the thorn in General Motors' side as the strike has caused yet another production delay for the Detroit-based automaker. A shortage of axles has forced GM to eliminate one shift at its Oshawa, Ontario production facility. GM's Oshawa plant produces the Buick LaCrosse and the Chevrolet Impala – one of Chevrolet's best-selling models. In addition to the slowdown in Oshawa, GM also announced that the strike has caused it to slow production of its four-speed transmission at the company's Ypsilanti Township, Michigan plant. In all, the strike has caused GM to slow or idle production at 30 plants. In addition to the UAW strike at American Axle, the UAW is striking GM's Lansing Delta plant, which produces the GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook and Buick Enclave.
Don Campbell On Ontario - Where To Invest
2008-04-21 01:52:00 Don R. Campbell bestselling author and president of the Real Estate Investment Network (REIN) released their top 10 tens to invest in in Ontario. They are as follows: 1. Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge - Comprising Canada's Technology Triangle, the region is quickly becoming known worldwide as a competitive area in which to build a high-tech business. The area is so strong economically that the Real Estate Investment NetworkTM research team has dubbed it the "Economic Alberta of Ontario".2. Barrie and Orillia (tie) - Barrie is an attractive community for people seeking the nearness and vitality of Toronto but with a slower pace of life. Orillia, with a rising population and expansion of post-secondary institutions, has tremendous opportunities for investors to provide student housing.3. Northern Ontario Poet
2008-04-20 16:34:00 This Sundays work of poetry is from a writer located in my neck of the woods or at least close by it. Charlie Smith is a farmer/poet whose works are found in a series of collection and has been featured on CBC radio throughout Canada. Anyway I have read almost all of his works and he definitely adds a different voice to the poetry landscape. Here is one of his works:ResurrectionI am writing a poem in the taggy old field:Turn down the alders and grin —When was the last time it sang of its yield? The spruce whisper, “Long has it bin;Long as a lifetime, long as a log,Many a winter did nest.â€But I plow down the poplar, the chokecherry bush,The whispering spruce and the rest.I find the old furrows and strike out anew;I sing to the red diesel roar,And the field heaves her bosom and flexes her arms,And the sod on the mull-boards says, “More!â€I am writing a poem and my black lines are straight,A rhyme that a dead man can see;And he circles the edges just out of my sight,And he w...
