Virginia Tech battles for ACC pride at Orange Bowl
2008-01-04 01:57:00 Virginia Tech may be the last best hope of the Atlantic Coast Conference and of the mid-Atlantic region as the Hokies take the Orange Bowl field against Kansas. The ACC champions scored well in computer rankings (#1 in my own) but poll voters prevented the team from reaching the title game. Instead, Virginia Tech has drawn a one-loss Kansas squad from the Big 12 conference, widely derided for having faced an easy schedule before falling against Missouri. Virginia Tech would be only the third of eight qualified ACC conference teams to win if it prevails tonight, the first among all semi-local squads to actually win this bowl season.... unless one counts West Virginia, which I don't.Game time is 8 p.m. tonight on Fox network (WTTG/5) and radio stations 730, 92.7, 94.3 & 1200.

Orange Bowl Deux?
2007-12-14 15:31:00 Further news regarding the near-completed deal for a Marlins stadium at the OB site has been reported by the Sun Sentinel. The stadium is now to be completed by 2011, and should seat 37,000. Seems like overkill, or maybe in their negotiations somebody accidentally added a zero to the capacity. Anyway, as mentioned before, the Marlins will have to put up more up front but less overall. At first glance, that irritates me, but knowing the corruption and incompetence of construction down here in Miami, the Marlins will have to fork over at least another 100 million since they are now responsible for cost overruns.As a sidenote, there are two interesting revelations regarding the deal. First, the team is to be renamed the Miami Marlins, which is a ridiculous idea. Everyone knows they play in Miami and the alliteration just doesn't work here.
