The Orange Box: Confusing Name, Awesome Game
2008-03-11 01:53:00 Valve on Monday celebrated "100 awards and counting" for the critically acclaimed Orange Box, a five game compilation for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.Team Fortress 2, one of five gamesAccording to Valve, The Orange Box "has racked up over 100 first place awards, 50 Game of the Year honors, [and] over 50 craft awards for special achievements in gaming.""While some have called it the best value in video game history, Valve took a chance with the product mix in The Orange Box," said Gabe Newell, president of Valve. "After earning the top review scores of all time on two platforms, becoming a best seller on multiple platforms, and accumulating over 100 awards, that risk has been rewarded by gamers and critics around the world."Regrettably, The Orange Box suffers from a minor case of "What the crap is an Orange Box," a confusing name that may have discouraged some gamers from trying the title. The Orange Box is available now on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC and coming soon as budget games sold separate...

Game Review:The Orange Box
2007-11-18 13:19:00 5 great ingredients for an outstanding dish. You know you are having a good deal when you are paying for 5 games with the price of 1. No, it isn?t some dream you?re having because such a brilliant package does indeed exist. For your money?s worth (and mine), The Orange Box packs in the original Half-Life 2 that was released 3 years ago on PC and 2 years ago on Xbox, its 2 expansions ? Episode One and Episode Two, first-person puzzle game Portal, with multiplayer game Team Fortress 2 wrapping up the package. A haphazardly-planned package this isn?t for it contains 5 outstanding games, including Half-Life 2, which is the BEST game I have played to date. The Orange Box impresses on first sight. Before you even decide on what to start playing with (yes, there is no order as to which game you must play first), you will be facing the slickest menu interface yet ever since Colin Mcrae DiRT, providing easy access to any of the 5 components. At any time during a game, The Orange Box will also...

Reviews-Orange Box Review Part 3; Half Life 2; Episode 2
2007-11-01 22:12:00 Orange Box; Half Life 2 Episode 2 Genre; FPS Plateform; X-Box 360, PS3, PC ESRB; M Rating; 4 out of 5 (Half Life 2; Episode 2 and the Orange Box overall) Finally, after two days of non-stop Orange Box reviews, Pariah’s Guild has reached its conclusion to it’s Orange Box multi review. I covered the mind-bending puzzles in Portal, and the frantic strategic action in Team Fortress 2, but I never covered the sequel to the granddaddy of all FPS shooters. Of course, I’m talking about Half Life 2; Episode 2. Although Episode 2 added very small new content to the game, the game is the final piece to the reason why you should buy the Orange Box. Episode 2 takes place right after Half Life 2; Episode 1. The Citadel is finally destroyed and the Combine are hunting Gorgon (aka you) and Alyx after she stole the data from the Citadel before it exploded. After the Citadel incident, the explosion caused a super portal connecting Earth to the Combine home planet. Now, the duo has to tra...

Half Life 2: The Orange Box - Reader Review
2007-10-24 04:27:00 The Orange Box was released on October 10, and is the greatest video game deal to date. the Orange Box includes, Half-Life 2, HL: episodes 1 and 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2.The Main Part of this game is Half-Life 2. Half-Life 2 is a 3 year old game from valve in which the player controls Gordan Freeman, the scientist that unleashed an alien world on the Earth in Half-Life. The game picks up a few years after the events in Half-Life 1, and has you in a desperate race to reach the citadel, when the main bad guy is controlling and negotiating with the enemy. You will receive multiple weapons through the course of the game including a shotgun, SMG, a Gravity gun, and a crowbar. The enemies you encounter range from simple pawns, to epic fights for survival. This portion the game will take you anywhere from 8 to 10 hours to complete, and can be revisited to unlock hidden and well placed achievements. In Half-Life episodes 1 and 2, you continue off of the ending of Half-Life, desperately...
The Orange Box XBOX360 Review
2007-10-22 15:56:00 Let's sum this review up:5 Games in 1! Ok 3 are very similar. 3 UNIQUE Games in 1!Half Life 2 is a classic at this point and won tons of awards. Even if you've beaten it like I have, there's still new content with the new episodes and even incentive to experience the main quest again to unlock achievements. Portal is one of the most unique game experiences I've had recently and Team Fortress 2 is a very balanced and fun multiplayer experience.Gameplay: 10/10Pros: With 5 games there has to be one that you find yourself drawn to the most. For me, that's Portal and Team Fortress 2, but you may be a more story driven Half-Life 2 person. The controls are solid (and pretty similar) across all the games and the gameplay is extraordinary. In fact, my only complaint with the whole package is that there's plenty of Half-Life 2 action and not nearly enough Portal and Team Fortress. Portal is over way too fast and Team Fortress could use some more maps, but is wanting more really a fault?...
Orange Box Reviews: Half Life 2: Episode 1
2007-10-22 04:56:00 Yes, I know this isn't a very new game, but it did come with the Orange box, and I hadn't played it yet. I'll start out my review by saying that this is a very good, classic Half-Life style horror-shooter. I've played maybe 2/3 or 3/4 of the way through the game, and it is GOOD. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. When you start out, you are talking to Alyx (your partner, same as in Half-Life 2). She gives you only a gravity gun, but then supes it up. With this blue gravity gun you can pretty much pick up anything. So killing the combine (bad guys) will be a cinch. Throughout the game you run into many mini-puzzles that require you to think outside the box, and use your gravity gun to do so. There is a lot of fast paced action, as well as a little slow parts that have story dialog. Overall a really great game. If you played Half-Life 2 you must get this. It continues the story, and is of course, another Half-Life masterpiece from those at Valve. If you haven't played HL2...

Half-Life 2: The Orange Box
2007-10-19 15:45:00 Valve's "The Orange Box" includes five games, three are new & exclusive to this collection In 1998, the original Half-Life won 50+ "Game Of The Year" awards for its innovative & immersive storytelling. Half-Life 2 continues the story of research scientist Gordon Freeman. With the intense atmosphere of the original taken to new levels of realism, Freeman is thrust into the role of rescuing the world from the alien menace he has unleashed. (Half-Life 2 trailer). Episode One (trailer) & the new Episode Two (1st trailer - 2nd trailer) present further advances in graphics rendering & Artificial Intelligence, extending the single player experience of the Half-Life adventure. Portal is a deceptively simple puzzle game with a warped sense of humour. You are armed with a gravity-gun that can also fire portals. You step into one portal & come out of the other. It begins easy enough, but you'll soon be straining your brain to figure out solutions. (Watch the PORTAL Traini...

The Orange Box that is not green
2007-10-17 20:11:00 Being a long time fan of the Half Life series, you can imagine how pleased I was to receive my copy in the post today, a full two days before release date. To put the cherry on the cake, I had the afternoon to myself to try it out At the time of writing, I had only tried out Portal and Half Life 2 Episode 2. this was 40% of the pack as there was also Team Fortress, Half Life 2 and Half Life 2 Episode 1 to play (not bad for £40 ). For many, Portal is the game that showed most appeal out of the five, unless you’re a Half Life fan and Episode 2 is the most important. Now when you think hmmm five games for 40 quid there is a reason, and that reason is length. For starters Portal is only 19 levels of which can be completed in about 1 to 2 hours - gutting really as it is very cool to play and does actually make your brain hurt on the last 3 levels. Levels 1 to about 15 are more like tutorials in preparation for the final 4, which do get quite complex. With regard to HL2 Episod...

The premise of the game is that you are a test subject for a company called Aperture Labs, in which you test out their new gun that shoots portals. There are really only 2 characters in the game, you, and the computer that talks to you and gives you instructions on your journey. The great thing about this game is in fact the computer voice. It makes jokes, and great references, all in a monotone Microsoft Sam-esque computer voice. Now to the game play. It is fantastic. At first you can only shoot one (blue) portal, and the other orange portal is already stationed for you. But a couple test chambers (basically levels) into it you get the option to shoot both orange and blue portals. The whole idea is that you shoot portals around, and go through them to get to the finish line, which is an elevator that leads you to another ...

Orange Box Reviews: Team Fortress 2
2007-10-15 02:34:00 Seeing as I've have played this game the most so far, I will go ahead and review it. I think Team Fortress 2 is a pretty AWESOME game. The gameplay is gold, the graphics are great and unique, and the diversity in gameplay is great too. Also there is a great stats system, and little achievments you get when you, well, achieve stuff. I'll start with the gameplay. You get to choose from 9 different classes: Scout (run fast, double jump), Soldier (rocket launcher), Pyro (flame thrower), Heavy (+ health, mini-gun), Demoman (explosives, sticky bombs), Engineer (turrets, teleports), Sniper (sniper rifle), Medic (healing gun, needle rifle), and the Spy (disguse as enemy, invisible). All that, plus you can switch them out as you please every time you die. Ok, now the graphics are very cool. They are pretty cartoonish, yet can deal out carnage like it were real life. There is a reason this game is rated M... Also there are only 6 levels, but there are many levels inside them. During parts of...

Orange Box
2007-10-14 09:26:00 Well, I picked up the Orange Box today. For those that don't know, this fine piece of software contains 5 games. Half-Life 2 along with Episodes 1 and 2, Portal, and my favorite Team Fortress 2. First of all I want to say, what a deal. 5 excelent games for a mere $50(For PC, I think it's $60 for the Xbox 360 version). Well worth the cost. I will give a series of more in-depth reviews later in the week when I play more of the games. But my first impressions are WOW. Portal is GREAT. In my opinion it is the most uniquely great FPS idea ever. You shoot portals and go through them to solve puzzles. Team Fortress 2 is also good multiplayer class-based fun. And HL2: Episode one I like so far. I haven't played it before, so I'm going to finish Episode 1 before I start 2. So, if you are looking for one computer game this year, I'd say this is the one.Thank you for subscribing to my blog!
