A Double Strand of DNA & The Art Of Origami Meet Nanotechnology

A new method of targeting drugs for delivery to cells is in development at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  The new method combines the art of DNA origami with the science of nanotechnology and is expected to result in drug-carrying nanostructures that can weather the storms of intracellular "hurricanes."

Thousand Origami Cranes
2008-09-23 22:57:00
???Zenbazuru or a thousand folded origami cranes are seen throughout Japan at temples and shrines and places of remembrance and atonement such as the Atomic Dome in Hiroshima or the Daihonei tunnel complex in Nagano built by forced labor during World War II. The cranes may also be offered at weddings to wish the happy couple everlasting happiness or on the occasion of the birth of a child. The folding of a thousand cranes relates to the legend that if a person undertakes such a task they will be granted a wish by a crane - considered a mythical bird possessed of special powers in Japan.Nowadays, special origami sets for making the cranes can be bought in shops and department stores. In literature, the most famous reference to the 1000 cranes is Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by American novelist Eleanor Coerr. The book tells the tragic story of Sadako Sasaki, who died from leukemia in 1955 brought on by radiation poisoning from the Hiroshima atomic bomb.Yahoo Japan Auction Servi...

Origami Experience 2.0 Part 2: RSS
2008-05-21 04:03:00
Two weeks ago, I talked about the new Web Browsing capabilities in Origami Central, one of the three apps in the Origami Experience 2.0 software. That was Part 1 of a 4-part series showcasing the new features of the Origami Experience 2.0 software for Ultra Mobile PCs. Here in Part 2, I am going to talk about the new RSS features also in Origami Central. In browsing the web in Origami Central on my UMPC, I can quickly subscribe to a RSS feed on any website. Origami Central uses the Windows RSS Platform and the Common Feed List from IE7 for its RSS feeds. Feeds I subscribe to in Origami Central or in IE7 will appear in the Common Feed List. What this means essentially is that Origami Central and IE7 share the same RSS feeds. When accessing my subscribed feeds in Origami Central, I'm brought into the All Feeds screen. The UI uses large graphic icons making it better to use the touch features when navigating between feeds and folders with feeds inside them. The blac...
Origami - from ori meaning "folding" and kami meaning "paper"
2008-05-12 13:12:00
I think that it's pretty well established by this point that I have "handbag issues"...and have spent more than any rational person should to obtain my latest obsession...but the one bag that I always assumed I would never get my sticky little hands on was an Hermes Kelly bag. Having concluded that even I would baulk at spending that much on a bag...especially when weighed up against, say, a round-the-world cruise or other item on my 'things to do before I die' list. So, imagine my excitement when I learned that it was possible to visit Hermes' website and download your own Kelly...admittedly, not the leather version...but a paper mock-up (not for use during rainstorms). Of course, I could always trace it onto canvas for a slightly sturdier version...
Concept phone Origami by Antenna Design

So some of the concepts of mobile phones seem viable, especially one developed by Antenna Design seems unlikely. The Ori-Ori-Moshi Moshi borrows his idea with the practice of Japanese Origami, and thus is OLED paper which folds to take different functions. Of course the mobile phone.

Origami Experience 2.0 Part 1: Web Browsing
2008-04-30 10:10:00
In Part 1 of my 4 part series of blog posts looking at the Origami Experience 2.0 software, I am going to talk about one of the most important new experiences in the new release: browsing the web directly in Origami Central. Origami Central, one of the three apps in the Origami Experience, has the built in capability to browse webpages just as you would in IE7. ActiveX controls work just fine in the browsing experience of Origami Central - as does Flash and Silverlight (demo video below!). In Origami Central, the browsing experience is tied to the toolbar that auto-hides at the top of the window. Because the toolbar auto-hides, I get a full screen web browsing experience and with a UMPC running at 1024x600 resolution without toolbars and other things taking up useful screen real-estate. Just like in IE7, I can use the address bar in Origami Central to do web searches. But in Origami Central, when I type something in the address bar (a phrase or URL), it searches through the his...

El arte del origami
2008-04-08 15:23:00

Space NK Seduction Bodycare Origami Box Product Review
2008-02-06 20:11:00
Space NK’s Seduction Bodycare essentials set comes in a nice box that features origami cranes in different colors all over it.  Having lived in Japan, I love to see anything origami. I have the bodywash and body balm in seduction which smells amazing.  The bodywash has a much stronger version of the scent than the body balm.  Described as a “fresh blend of fig leaves and freesia in a sensual earthy base of amber and musk” confused me at first, I’ve never smelled fig leaves before!  so let me put it simply for you - it smells good!  It’s not fruity or flowery so very nice to have on hand for a man.  If you’re not going to use it right away open it and put it in your linen closet for some towels that smell wonderful.  $55 for the set @ SpaceNK Post from: Steeping Beauty Space NK Seduction Bodycare Origami Box Product Review Share This
