OUTSOURCING: MODA O TENDENCIA

SEVEN BILLIONAIRES IN OUTSOURCING
2008-05-31 01:14:00 Forbes has primed a list of seven outsourcing billionaires. These magnificent seven comes from two developing countries of the world, that is, Taiwan and India. Taiwan millionaires are into manufacturing, they are specialized in contract manufacturing with special emphasis in the production of electronics. However, Indian outsourcing leading lights provide services to the world. They are minting billions by exporting software and IT services. f you wonder, what made these people successful, Robert Kennedy, a professor at the University of Michigan Business School has an answer, "The economics behind offshoring are really compelling, and customers usually do it for three reasons--they want specialized firms, [they want] to cut costs, and [they want] access to talent or specialized skills." Lets take a look at the list Azim Premji: At age 21, Premji took over his family's cooking fat oil company. Since then, Wipro has become the No. 1 provi...
OUTSOURCING TO AMERICA!!
2008-05-31 00:13:00 Almost 1 million Americans get their paychecks from Mexican companies, says Ton Heijmen, senior adviser for outsourcing and offshoring for the Conference Board. Now that's a news to me. I thought jobs are vanishing from America and are landing up in offshore countries. But this report from Forbes has really changed my perception. Well, I know America is also a land where many brands from foreign countries set up shops and employed Americans and invested billions of dollars. I got this info about Toyota from Wikipedia. Toyota directly employed around 34,675 people in the United States, invested USD $15.5 billion, produced 1.2 million vehicles using US and foreign auto parts, sold 2.54 million vehicles, and donated USD $340 million to nonprofits. [20] It has in total 10 plants, USD $2.9 billion per year payroll, purchased USD $28 billion in parts and supplies from 30 states. It created around 386,000 jobs in the United States as result of Toyota's spending a...
PROS AND CONS OF OUTSOURCING, THE DEBATE ON POSITIVE VS NEGATIVE IS ON
2008-05-30 21:08:00 From giant to modest ones, organizations from across the world are under immense stress to deliver value to their customers and thus embrace the challenges dished out by competition. In global village market, this is truer today than it was ever. Broadly, the factor that directly or indirectly contributes toward an organization’s business success is the cost of production and operation. Among the many initiatives that have succeeded in reducing the cost of producing goods and services is the outsourcing/offshoring model. This model has taken many forms and its characteristics have been refined over a period of time. Positive effects of outsourcing are concentration or focus on core business areas, get best of trade services on non core areas from specialized firms, world class technology and service at cheaper rates with attaching no strings, increased productivity, greater share holder confidence, tax benefits, more savings means more resource in hand for business expansi...

China Versus Thailand: Outsourcing Smackdown
2008-05-04 20:40:00 David Dayton over at the consistently enlightening Silk Road International Blog did an interesting post comparing China to Thailand for manufacturing, entitled, "Thailand vs. China." David is eminently qualified to make this comparison because his Master's Degree focused on "Comparative Chinese and Thai Corporate Cultures," he is fluent in both Thai and Mandarin, and has spent considerable time doing business in both places. My business/legal dealings with Thailand have been so few and far between that I am just not qualified to opine on these things, but I would, of course, love to hear from readers familiar with both countries. Dayton starts his post off by quoting a friend saying that “Every thing in Thailand is slow except for the internet.” “Everything in China is fast except for internet” and then sets out the following eleven comparisons: 1. "legal requirements for export are not nearly as burdensome here [in Thailand]." 2. "Thailand’s infrastructure is at...

ACCOUNTING OUTSOURCING: WHY NOT TRANSFER TEMPORARY SEASONAL WORK TO INDIA
2008-04-27 12:34:00 Hmm…India comes handy for all the purposes. Here, I am reading this news where the accounting firm overburdened with inflow of extra accounting work like preparing client tax returns sends much of the seasonal work to an accounting firm which has more than 700 experienced accountants on its board, out of them 140 are certified public accountants (CPAs) and certified accountants (Cas). Pretty impressive! What they are replacing is broadly lower level of work. More from the articleWelcome to the growing world of finance and accounting outsourcing. Outsourcing the Presidency
2008-04-24 23:40:00 Estadounidenses really don't have much choice when it comes to presidential candidates: a witch, a guy with a foreign-born father, and an ex-con. The U.S. is already outsourcing everything else, so why not the presidency? It outsources the nasty job of fighting its wars to poor folk and convicted felons, customer service, tech support and even legal research to India, and everything else to China. Being president really isn't something to be learned on the job, so it should go to a guy with some experience under his belt. And you really ought to have a president who has some familiarity with the U.S. and doesn't have to move a long distance. Can we lend you Vicente Fox for the next eight years? Or even Carlos Salinas de Gortari? All right, so Ernesto Zedillo and Miguel de la Madrid but be better choices, but they're not around stirring up a...

Is outsourcing bad?
2008-04-20 03:42:00 A few months back, the client company for which I was deputed in US decided to switch software/software service vendors and eventually that means that employees from our company would be replaced by the employees of the competitor. But quite unexpectedly this created a buzz in the little town where we live. The link below is an excerpt from a local newspaper's website.http://www.tampabay.com-/news/business/article456721.ec-eThere are a lot of legal and moral issues listed in the article but what attracted me was the comments section. There were so many people who considered that outsourcing is a threat to the employment of US population and foreigners especially Indians take away a lot of their opportunities. Looking at this whole thing from a conservative bird's eye view, there are a lot of reasons to believe so. Some of them are1. A lot of Indians could be spotted in Oldsmar (the town where I live) especially in and around the client location.2. Apartments meant for the economical...
