Game Thread; Cubs at Padres, 10:05 p.m. EST/9:05 CT: I give it a Ten!
2008-06-04 23:30:00 Shout-out to Varsity Blues, a great hangover movie. The Cubs, on their quest to never lose the rest of the season, take on the Fathers in the final of the three-game series. A win tonight will give the best team in baseball 10 straight (Wowza!). And as the above pic states, we at IALOHO are open late again tonight! Come join your fellow commenters in the chat room. Why? Well, three good reasons: 1. It's hump day for one, only two more days to the weekend! 2. The game is on WGN, so all of us non-Chicagoites/ans can watch! 3. I may even show up! Well, two out of three ain't bad. Please keep your arms and legs inside the car as you strap into the Ted Lilly Experience. Twists, turns, exhilaration, screaming, cursing, smiling ... the T.R. Express provides it all. You may remember Lilly's last outing, he gave up an assload of runs and overall stunk up the joint against Colorado, then was bailed out thanks to the greatness that is the 2008 Cubs (and Jim Edmonds!?!?!?!?) On the season...

Lincecum and Lewis Beat Padres
2008-06-02 22:01:00 The Giants sea saw season continued over the home stand as they keep beating the good teams and losing to the weaker teams. After sweeping the Diamondbacks, the Giants lost 2 straight to San Diego and barely avoided getting swept by a team that they should beat. Fred Lewis' pinch hit triple off the deteriorating Trevor Hoffman, and another stellar outing from Tim Lincecum helped the Giants Sunday as the Giants' brightest young arm and bat continue to have a successful 2008 season. It was good to see Lewis get his stroke back with the 420 foot triple to the deepest part of the ballpark. Lewis struggled a bit in May hitting only .204 and got on base at a .282 clip after hitting .341 with a .423 OBP in April. Obviously Lewis is not as good as he showed in April, but he's not as bad as he showed in May either. I would expect him to be somewhere in the middle. One thing Bochy should consider is swapping Lewis and Randy Winn in the batting order. There are some inside the organization ...
Davidoff's Latest: Padres, Garcia, Lofton
2008-06-02 10:54:00 Newsday's Ken Davidoff posted a new column yesterday. Davidoff spoke to Padres GM Kevin Towers, who is not ready to throw in the towel. Realistically Towers could let all of June play out before shopping his veterans. If all goes according to plan, Freddy Garcia might appear in the Majors in late August. If so, he'd be eligible for the postseason. Davidoff implies that Kenny Lofton is asking for the same $6MM he earned last year. No wonder he's still sitting at home.

2008-05-28 11:20:00 The Padres and Mariners worked out a minor trade, as they have many times in the past. The Padres acquired Cha Seung Baek for Jared Wells. Baek was in the 10-day limbo period after being designated for assignment. Baek, 28, has a 4.96 ERA in 168.2 career innings for the Mariners. His best asset has been respectable control. The Ms signed Baek out of Korea for $1.3MM in '98. Baseball America said back in '05 that Baek succeeds by locating a full five-pitch repertoire. He had Tommy John surgery back in '01. Wells, 26, was shifted to relief at Triple A last year and picked up nine saves. His numbers have been ugly - tons of hits, poor control, mediocre strikeout rate. Baseball America notes his average slider and decent two-seam fastball.

If we make changes, it will be wholesale."He also said, "We've been bad, no question about it. There's been no signs to tell us or our fans we're going to turn this around.
