Saturday Night Game Thread: Cubs @ Padres 9:05 CT/10:05 ET CSN
2009-05-23 23:36:00 Go fuck yourself, San Diego I've got nothing. Seriously, I'm completely out of ideas. I've been wearing a rally cap for the last 4 days straight. I've been fasting since the last time we scored more than one run in a game. I've taken all the Cubs out of my fantasy team lineup. I've been roasting goats on a homemade alter in myu backyard for the last 5 days; the neighbors are starting to complain. Since our manager doesn't seem to care about putting a decent lineup out there, and my team doesn't much care about hitting or scoring runs, I'm resorting to using profanity in reference to the other team. I plan on spending most of the game thread quoting "Anchorman" lines. Anyone have a better idea? If anyone still thinks it matters, we're sending Randy Wells and his scoreless streak (which undoubtedly will end shortly after he takes the mound) out to pitch against someone named Josh Geer (0-0). Sure, we don't know who that is now, but no doubt we will after the game is over...
Friday Night Game(s) Thread: Cubs @ Padres / Red Wings @ Hawks
2009-05-23 00:57:00 Nooooooooo! I can't take anymore: SAN DIEGO- The Cubs placed Rich Harden on the 15-day disabled list with a back strain on Friday, and inserted Randy Wells into the rotation for Saturday's game. Harden felt a twinge in his last outing last Sunday, and in a subsequent side session this week in St. Louis. With Harden's injury, the Cubs don't have to make any move with the bullpen to reactive Carlos Zambrano, who starts tonight against Jake Peavy. Harden will be eligible to return during the Atlanta series, which begins June 2nd at Turner Field. It's his seventh stint on the disabled list since 2005. So we lost Harden, and the Trib decides to throw in this little nugget as the cherry on top: Now that Peavy has rejected the Sox, the Cubs worst fears -- that Milwaukee will get into the mix -- may come to fruition. Just kill me. Zambrano (3-1)is back on the mound tonight against Peavy (3-5). I suppose I'll watch. I wouldn't want to miss what else could possibly happen to this tea...
Chicago Cubs @ San Diego Padres: 7:05 CT/8:05 ET
2009-05-13 23:31:00 Yeah well, I'm not thrilled with this conversation, either I've gone back and forth today over whether or not to write this diary. I mean, it's not like it hasn't been discussed; there isn't much left of the dead horse. But while I was out driving around today, I listened to Dan Bernstein (who I normally love) sniff derisively at a fan who called in to suggest exactly what many of us have been saying: that Lee should sit until Hoffpauir cools off. From there, the conversation devolved into Dan berating the caller over how anyone could be so stupid as to think that Hoffpauir is a better ballplayer than Lee, which included calling those who frequent baseball blogs "sock puppets" and a rather unfair imitation of what was presumably the way Dan imagined the caller making out a lineup card. I kind of feel like the caller got skewered for ALL of us who hold this point of view, so let's clear a few things up. No, I don't think whoever has the higher batting average on any given da...

Wouldn't it be awesome if like, that other guy decided he wanted to play on our team? And like, we found a way to get him???? Giants Return Favor To Padres
2009-04-23 00:32:00 After getting swept by the Padres on their visit just last week, the Giants got a chance to redeem themselves vs. their foes from Southern California, and they did just that. The Giants swept the Padres in their short two-game set in San Francisco and once again, got lights-out performances out of their starting pitchers, but their offense actually showed up on Tuesday night as well. Well, not the whole offense, but one guy in particular who had looked sluggish in the early going and is already drawing criticism. That guy is Edgar Renteria. The shortstop officially arrived for the Giants in Tuesday nights game, providing his first multi-hit game in a Giants uni, along with his first home run. Renteria went 3 for 4 with a grand-slam and 5 RBI, leading the Giants to a 8-3 victory over the Padres. It's no secret that the majority of the baseball scouting world didn't agree with the contract Brian Sabean gave Renteria over the winter, and early on there, it was looking like they were r...

2009-03-20 19:17:00 Hey kids, we get baseball today! Guess Who's Pitching? That's right! Rich and his magical butt head to the mound today to take on the much less-attractive Kevin Correia the Padres. If the sight of Rich's tush doesn't mesmerize you through the first three innings, you might notice that Milton Bradley (flu, new baby), Derrek Lee (quad), and Geo Soto (WBC) are all slated to start today. Which brings me to something I've been pondering the last few days: Can Derrek Lee still hit a baseball? Or has he gone the way of Andruw Jones in one of the most epic tanks in baseball history? Okay, so DLee is no Andruw Jones, but, in just a few years, he's gone from contending for the triple crown and winning the batting title to hitting below .179 in ST. And yes, DLee lovers, it's only ST. But I dont' like where this is headed. This ST, Mike Fontenot, Carlos Zambrano, Sam Fuld and Brad Snyder all have more HRs than Lee, who has yet to hit one out. Let's look at Lee's lines the last thre...

2008-06-04 23:30:00 Shout-out to Varsity Blues, a great hangover movie. The Cubs, on their quest to never lose the rest of the season, take on the Fathers in the final of the three-game series. A win tonight will give the best team in baseball 10 straight (Wowza!). And as the above pic states, we at IALOHO are open late again tonight! Come join your fellow commenters in the chat room. Why? Well, three good reasons: 1. It's hump day for one, only two more days to the weekend! 2. The game is on WGN, so all of us non-Chicagoites/ans can watch! 3. I may even show up! Well, two out of three ain't bad. Please keep your arms and legs inside the car as you strap into the Ted Lilly Experience. Twists, turns, exhilaration, screaming, cursing, smiling ... the T.R. Express provides it all. You may remember Lilly's last outing, he gave up an assload of runs and overall stunk up the joint against Colorado, then was bailed out thanks to the greatness that is the 2008 Cubs (and Jim Edmonds!?!?!?!?) On the season... |
