Blue Iris, or as we in the biz like to call it, familiarly, PANTONE 18-3943, is the color. Leatrice Eiseman, one of those color wonks at Pantone tries to justify the choice, oAs a reflection of the times, Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspect of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic. Blue Iris is a purpley color. Im not so sure about its soul-searching capability, but it does remind me of one of those colors I might see on a live link on a web page. This book is one my mother gave to me, and I never got around to reading it when she was alive. I realise now with regret that if a person bothers to give you a book, you should return the generosity by reading it during their lifetime, as it may entirely change how you think.But in another way, its no bad thing to finally settle down and appreciate the wisdom of the book. For a start it has introduced me to Freud, who I had no serious prior knowledge of, aside from fnarr inducing jokes about cigars. I spent six months in the arms of modern psychiatry and did not hear a peep about Freud. Not once did I really understand how mental disorders are classified, and what their roots are. It seems entirely obvious that mental illness is in large part not inherited, but induced by events in your own life.Reading Storr's book, I realise that this is what is missing from modern psychiatry.
