2009-10-24 05:51:00
Since its establishment, the Pakistan House has been preparing honorary workers and volunteers for deployment in the project including Thatta Kedona. The House also became center for discussions and information about improvement in the work for the interested public. Lectures by guest speakers were delivered there. In cooperation with the Pakistan Embassy, a large number of Pakistani visitors (including member of government, ambassadors, and officials of various organizations, members of the military academy, journalists, and students) to Potsdam found their way to the House. Pakistan days were celebrated there with cultural fanfare. German institution like House of Cultures of the World, Import-Shop, Q-Damm Mile, and Festival of Nations also were partners in activities at the House. Here are some of the images of those who have been involved in activities at Pakistan House Postdan, Germany.
In The Salt Range
2009-10-21 04:47:00
The Salt Range derives its name from extensive deposits of rock salt. It stands as remnant of forts with bastions and temples. Exceptionally, this region maintains an almost continuous record of history that can define the evolution of society. Forts and temples surviving along the range are a reminder of how untouched many of the ancient remnants are. Alexander from Macedon came to this range twice: one from Taxila and later once his forces refused to go any further from the banks of the River Beas. From here he marched towards the Arabian Sea on his way to Babylon. And, now an NGO is constructing the monument of Alexander near Jalalpur town in the foot of the salt range in district Jhelum. For those who take their first chance to the area, the landscape all along the Salt Range is rock-strewn, lacking in softness and loveliness. In many parts, it becomes barren and uninviting. But, in truth the range is dotted with historical wonders, romantic legends, archaeological remains, and v...
Calling Mehsuds
2009-10-20 04:27:00
The text of a message by Gen Ashfaq Kayani that will be be dropped in Mehsud areas in coming daysI admit that all of our tribal areas including Mehsuds are faithful to Pakistan and they have always worked for the defense of Pakistan as volunteers. The aim of current military operation is not to attack proud and patriotic Mehsuds but it is to save them from the clutches of ruthless terrorists who have destroyed peace of the whole region. Therefore the aim of this operation will be Uzbek terrorists, foregin terrorists and local terrorists.Miltary?s aim is to let Mehsuds live in their area in peace. I am hopeful that Mehsud tribes will side with Pakistan military in this operation and will rise as one against these ruthless terrorists so that Pakistan?s green cresent flag will once again flutter in Mehsud lands with full glory. God Bless you. with best wishes. Gen Ashfaq Kayani. Long live Pakistan. Long Live Pak Military and Long Live Mehsud tribes.

2009-10-17 07:16:00
Given the security situation in the country (and also reported abuse of communication systems and channels), everyone must be cautious. It is possibility that someone might have got a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) against your ID (CINC). I suggest you check and find out the total number of SIM(s) registered against their respective CNIC number with each mobile operator.Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has developed a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) information system to address associated risks on security and to ensure subscription regulations in cellular sector. {Thanks Jamil}

Pakistan vs West Indies - Live in ICC Champions trophy 2009
2009-09-22 18:37:00
Pakistan will face the weakened West Indies in the second match of ICC Champions trophy 2009. With most of the renowned players in strike, West Indies has almost the same squad which was clean swept by Bangladesh recently. Pakistan will miss their captain Younis Khan due to injury but has some players like Umar Akmal, Rana Naved and Umar Gul in superb touch. Shahid Afridi who will be an acting captain has too made a superb comeback.ICC Champions Trophy 2009 - Group A MatchPakistan vs West Indies at JohannesburgDate: 23rd September 2009Time: 5:30 PM (Pakistan), 6:00 PM (India), 14:30 (local),12:30(GMT)Mohammad Asif is likely to make a comeback. India vs Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy 2009
2009-09-19 19:05:00
After a long gap of more than 14 months, we will see two arch rivals India and Pakistan face to face in international cricket. The group A match of ICC Champions trophy scheduled on 26th September is certainly one of the most awaited matches this year for cricket fans. With no hope of bilateral series for at least 2 years, India vs Pakistan matches will now be rare and these type of tournaments are only the hope of seeing them together.India and Pakistan last played in Asia cup in June 2008. After Mumbai attacks, Pakistan's visit to India was canceled. So, this match is of great importance for every cricket fan. India - Pakistan matches are different from other cricket matches. Either its Ashes or India vs Australia, no match can surpass the excitement of India vs Pakistan.I hope that the Champions trophy match will be a very close encounter. Either India wins or Pakistan, the match should not be one sided. It should be really exciting and thrilling. The 2007 World Twenty20 final i...

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka - Champions trophy warm-up match 2009 - Live
2009-09-18 13:55:00
Before the start of Champions trophy 2009, some unofficial ODI matches are going to be played as warm-up matches. On 18th September, Pakistan and Sri Lanka battle at Benoi. The regular players are expected to play in this warm up match and it will be fully entertaining. As a final practise for the ICC Champions Trophy 2009, both the teams will try their best.Pakistan is captained by Younis Khan. For them the bowling is the strength. Umar Gul is in great touch. In batting Umar Akmal is emerging. Shahid Afridi is showing his all-round performance. The Sri Lankan team for me are one of the favorites for the Champions trophy. They have batting of Sangakkara, Dilshan and Jayasuriya. Matthews is one of the best all-rounders I have seen in world cricket at present.I don't think any TV channel will broadcast this warm-up match live. The best way to enjoy this match is by viewing live on the internet. Get the live scorecard and commentary on cricinfo.

Start of Pakistan Railways
2009-09-17 04:33:00
Owais Mughal The first railway line was laid in the in the areas that now comprise Pakistan in the year 1858 in Karachi. Following is the story of this historical event as well as the construction of first railway section of Pakistan which was opened between Karachi City and Kotri in 1861. Following photo is kind of jumping the gun in our story but it is the earliest photo of railways that I could research for Karachi-Kotri section. The photo is circa 1900 and shows the 0530 a.m. passenger train reaching Frere Road Station (now called Karachi Cantt) from Kotri. The origin of Railways in Pakistan is quite unusual. The railway here was not built for commercial passenger service but more for the reason of cutting transport time for cargo bound for East. The first line from Karachi to Kotri was constructed primarily to reduce the journey time on the final stage of long haul from Britain to Delhi and Calcutta. Many of the later lines were built for Military purposes. The Early Planning...

Honorable Guest to Pakistan
2009-09-11 07:11:00
Pakistan receives a large number of migratory birds from Europe and Central Asian States every year. These birds spend the winters in Pakistan and go back to their native habitats in the summers. The route these birds take from Siberia to Pakistan is known as International Migratory Birds' Route Number 4. It is also called the Green Route or Indus Flyway. Out of seven flyways, Indus Flyway is one of the busiest routes. Birds begin their journey in November. February is the peak time and by March they start flying back. These periods may vary depending upon weather conditions in Siberia and in Pakistan.Birds' migration is of different forms: diurnal (during day), nocturnal (night flights), altitudinal (from heights to lower parts) and latitudinal (from north to south). One of the reasons for migration is that food is not available in indigenous habitats during winter seasons. Other factors include changes in temperature, reduced daylight hours, and instinctive behaviour. The Indus F...

Pakistan team for ICC Champions Trophy 2009
2009-08-24 14:23:00
Mohammad Asif will make a comeback to the Pakistani team as he is selected in the 15-men squad for ICC Champions trophy 2009. After being out from international cricket, he was recently reported to be in good form. After a superb start to career, he was out for teams due to injuries and finally found positive in doping.Pakistan squad: Younis Khan (captain), Imran Nazir, Misbah-ul-Haq, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Naved-ul Hasan, Fawad Alam, Mohammad Yousuf, Kamran Akmal (wk), Umar Gul, Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif, Rao Iftikhar, Saeed Ajmal. So, All-rounder Abdul Razzaq will be out along with openers Salman Butt and Naser Jamshed. Razzaq got a moderate comeback but again he has been ignored. Probably, the Pakistan selectors are again forcing him to sign for ICL. Completely unfair decision. With addition of Razzaq, Pakistan could have a superb fast bowling and he could work as a very hard hitting batsman.3 ICL players are included - Rana Naved, Mohammad Yousuf and Imran N...
Renewed hope for Pakistan
2009-08-23 23:28:00
For the past couple of years, there hasn't been a lot of positive news coming out of Pakistan and although it has remained quite insulated from the effects of the global recession, things haven't been too rosy. I was recently reading a nice article on Dawn titled Silly Season in Pakistan that explored the possibility of ridding the country of the current president (don't get your hopes up) and the following part caught by attention: The macroeconomic indicators have stabilised; inflation is down; the power crisis will ease now that summer is over; suicide bombings are down; a degree of normality is returning to Swat; Baitullah Mehsud is dead and his headquarters in South Waziristan is under siege; the judicial crisis is over; a truce, albeit an uneasy one, is holding in Punjab; the American demands to ‘do more’ against the Taliban are muted; drone strikes are less of a political hot potato; relations with India are edging towards a post-Mumbai phase; parliament is upping it...
Could This Help Pakistan?

A deal finalized Wednesday between the United States and Switzerland paves the way for a potentially historic disclosure of Swiss bank secrets: the names of thousands of Americans suspected of using secret accounts to hide money from the IRS.Under the agreement, UBS -- Switzerland's largest bank -- is expected to turn over the names of Americans who controlled 4,450 accounts that are currently open or have been closed. The secret accounts at one point held as much as $18 billion, the IRS said."We will be receiving an unprecedented amount of information," IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman told reporters Wednesday morning. The settlement follows a long-running effort by the U.S. government to penetrate Swiss bank secrecy and catch tax evaders. The U.S. government had been seeking a federal court order demanding that UBS identify the holders of 52,000 accounts. The Swiss government vowed to prevent such a disclosure, leading to weeks of negotiations.Switzerland was fighting to preserve the r...

Emergence of Pakistan
2009-08-13 08:33:00
By Lt Col® Muhammad ZamanMR. Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India has told the US President Mr. Obama that he is outdated and away from reality about Pakistan. Pakistan is already imploded. Mr. Obama is 10 minutes behind history as he doesn?t see it now because of the dust clouds thrown up by the collapse, but once they disperse, he will see the scale of calamity (The News May 27, 2009). To cover up the process of Indian disintegration, Mr. Singh is using the smoke screen through electronic and print media. India was shining a few years ago, now it is incredible India. The future slogan is?NAACH INDIA NAACH? (DANCE INDIA DANCE). For the information of Mr. Obama, the future of India is bleak and the world needs to be very careful.Twenty two of out of 29 states of India are asking for independence from the Indian union. There are more than 100 private armies fighting the Indian army for independence. (START: National Consortium for the study of terrorism and response to terror;...

Pakistan Another Claim: Indian Dossier Inadequate
2009-08-07 21:08:00
Pakistan claims Indian dossier inadequate: Regarding 26/11 case, Pakistan always give explanation that they did not get what they want, the have no solid evidences. On this India gave a new dossier to Pakistan but Pakistan has new excuse on that too that it is not adequate. India sent the dossier to Pakistan on August 1, 2009. In the dossier, India gave all the proof against founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba(LeT)  Hafiz Saeed. According to India, he is the one who damage the India?s one of the most wonderful cities and tried to hurt people of India. In that damage, LeT tried to damage Nariman House, Taj hotel and many other places. Regarding dossier, P Chidambaram said that they have sent the all necessary information about attack on Mumbai on 26/11 and hope that after this Pakistan did not expect any explanation about this. They have sent all info and now Pakistan is able to take action. Information sought by Pakistan: Pakistan wanted that India provide the detailed information which inc...

Sri-Lanka New Captain Made a Record: Pakistan Frustrates
2009-07-23 17:22:00
New captain ton frustrates Pakistan in drawn Test:  Once again Sri-Lanka cricket team showed its talent and performed an admirable job. The new captain performed very well and scores a victory to his name in his first match as captain. Yes, here I am talking about the Sri Lanka?s new captain Kumar Sangakkara. He hit an unbeaten century against Pakistan in final test match and draws the match and hence won the first series as captain of Sri-Lanka. He made 130 not out scores. Sri-Lanka won the test series against Pakistan on July 24, 2009. They won the series by 2-0 where the last match was drawn between two. This series was played in Colombo in Sinhalese sports club. The team has secured its home series victory by winning the first two matches over Pakistan in the series.

Joint Statement A few days ago, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani had met on the side lines Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit held in Egyptian city Sharm el-Sheikh. After the meeting it was announced that both the nations have agreed to restart the dialog and it was also decided that terrorism will not be allowed to thwart dialog process again. After the meeting between both the Prime Ministers the official statement was made which has created ambiguity as both the parties are interpreting it differently. But speaking to the reporters, Indian PM had said that his Pakistani counterpart wanted to start the dialog ?here and now? but he was told that ?the dialogue cannot begin unless and until the terrorist acts of Mumbai are fully accounted for and the perpetrators are brought to book?. It is very clear neither the Indian leadership nor the Indian public will accept the dialog until Pakistan does not take concrete steps against ...

Zardari Admits Pakistan Sponsored Terrorism
2009-07-10 13:12:00
Statement For the first time Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has admitted that for the achievement of some short-term tactical goals terrorism was created and sponsored by the Pakistani government. Zardari gave this shocking statement during a meeting with former bureaucrats and civil servants in the President residence on Tuesday night. He also said that after 9/11 these terrorists have started to torment Pakistan like ghosts. He said that these terrorists became very strong inside the country and became a national challenge. These terrorist organizations had started to destabilize even the elected governments. This did not happen because the bureaucracy was weak or it had given up the war against terrorist but it had happened because it itself had created terrorism and had nurtured it and it was done for the achievement of some short-term goals. He said that we must speak truth and accept the reality. When the incident of 9/11 happened they started to traumatize Pakis...

Pakistan wins the 2009 Cricket World Cup
2009-06-22 01:36:00
Firstly, let me just say that despite my great love for participating in most kinds of sports and physical activities, the thought of watching a match from the couch doesn't quite appeal to me (well, maybe with the exception of the FIFA World Cup). And when it comes to Cricket, I have neither the patience, nor the will to sit through a whole match. But this post is about the only spot of good news that this nation has seen in a while. It comes after a long and bitter spell of the last few years, filled with the news of war, suicide bombings and all kinds of catastrophes. As usual, I found other stuff to do during tonight's Cricket World Cup Final. I didn't even know who we were playing against until after it had started, but the final victory was instantly apparent as screams of joy and a roar of fireworks went up all around my area. Pakistan had won the final match against Sri Lanka and were this year's world champions. Even after midnight, the streets of Islamabad were li...

Taliban-Inspired Attacks in Pakistan Hit Christians

As Taliban control hits pockets of Pakistan and threatens the nation's stability, Christians worry their province could be the next to fall under Islamic law. Christians in Taiser town, near Karachi, noticed on the walls of their church graffiti that read, "Long Live the Taliban" and calls for Christians to either convert to Islam or pay the jizye, a poll tax under sharia (Islamic law) paid by non-Muslims for protection if they decline to convert.
