kaLui restaurant
2010-10-25 19:01:00 Because of the raving reviews I have read of KaLui Restaurant, I was hoping that I could visit what is dubbed to be 'the most famous restaurant' in Puerto Princesa in Palawan. I squeezed then my small Project PPS (or my 3D-3N solo adventure to Palawan last month) budget further so that I could experience for myself what this restaurant has to offer. As a result, I did not buy any lamayo as pasalubong just to make sure that I would have enough money left to pay for my last dinner in Puerto Princesa. I said to myself that if that meal has to be special, then it has to be KaLui. I also walked all the way from the Puerto Princesa BayWalk to KaLui, which almost covers both ends of Rizal Avenue which is Puerto Princesa's major thoroughfare. That is one long walk by the way and if you have Php7.00 to spare, I advise that you hail a trike instead. It would not only take you there faster, it would save you buckets of sweat too. When I arrived at the place, I had to wait a little bit bec...
kinabuchs grill and bar
2010-10-20 19:29:00 I do not wonder anymore why Kinabuchs Grill and Bar along Rizal Avenue in Puerto Princesa City is very popular among Palaweńos and non-Palaweńos alike. The place may look like an abandoned parking lot during the day but it becomes a lively wateringhole at night. What it may lack in terms of fancy ambience, this restaurant superbly made up with good food at surprisingly low prices as well. People also come here to sample the tamilok or wood worms. They are believed to be aphrodisiacs that are rich in protein and cholesterol too, a combination that may be beneficial for one body organ but also lethal for another. They are actually marine bivalve mollusks that bore into mangroves and even man-made wooden structures that are submerged in sea water. Had it been that they were named plainly as wood oysters, perhaps those who cringe at the idea of eating a raw worm would be more comforted and those who are looking for an exotic fix would not be too curious with the dish. I first learn...
my solo trip to puerto princesa
2010-10-18 17:37:00 I thought that my trip to Puerto Princesa (PPS) City in Palawan last month was good as shelved for three good reasons. One, my co-worker informed me the tickets we bought last year were already refunded along with those that were erroneously charged to his credit card. Second, I am saving my precious remaining leaves for the upcoming holidays. Lastly, I?ve already exhausted my travel coffers after previously going to three other provinces in just a span of three months. But the universe seemed to conspire for me to go to Palawan despite the seemingly unfavorable circumstances at the onset. A few weeks before the scheduled trip, two non-working holidays (one was local and the other was national) were declared. These covered for the absences I would incur if I should pursue the PPS trip. I played then with the wishful thought that the ridiculously-priced tickets we bought were not included in the refund. When I called up the airline about it, I found out that those were still good to...

Palawan?s Underground River As One Of The Seven Wonders Of Nature?
2009-08-14 11:11:00 I’ve really found it hard to stomach the idea that mere humans who have been only around for a couple of million years – or a few thousand years if you’re a creationist *snicker* — would have the gall to rank geographical features of the Earth that have been progressively evolving and changing through more ...

Traversing Palawan?s untainted shores
2008-05-28 01:54:00 by Aaron Joel Santos I?m in the Philippines, sitting at a six-person dining room table made of bamboo. It?s the kind of table found all across Southeast Asia, but this one is special. This one is unconvincingly strapped to the top of an old bus speeding down an unpaved highway on the island of Palawan. Apparently, this ...

Ploning's Cuyo Island in Palawan
2008-04-27 15:31:00 Having an incurable disease called wanderlust and insatiable appetite for art films (where he eagerly awaits schedules of CineEuropa, Eiga Sai and other film festivals), Tutubi was already setting his sights on isolated Cuyo Island group in Palawan when he heard about the movie Ploning co-produced by Judy Ann Santos, endeared as Juday by Pinoys, with the teaser trailer released showing location shots in Cuyo.Cuyo is actually a group of 45 isolated islands part of the province of Palawan and yet too far from any land, between Palawan and Mindoro. The island lacks tourist facilities although there's said to be an inn and pension house, no pricey resorts and hotels that cater to mainstream tourists. There are said to be a few European retirees living on the island cherishing a slow paced life away from the rest of the world.Ploning movie review to follow should Tutubi get to see the flick and no, this is not an advertisement for the movie :PCuyo Travel Information:Cuyo town is home to...

Amanpulo Beach Resort - Palawan Philippines
2007-12-30 08:55:00 Hey! I'm just to proud to feature a world-renown resort, well, located in our country Philippines. Here's an excerpt from their official web site. I have also posted pictures to excite you more (most probably)!Amanpulo is an escape from the markings of mankind and is a dive into island life where nature has been unashamedly boastful. The island is secluded, being private, and offers a variety of sea, sand and tropical island-retreat–pleasures-, in exclusive comfort and in traditionally styled accommodation. Amanpulo or, ‘peaceful island’, honours its island host, respecting the natural elements with a profoundly ‘South Seas’ interpretation. The 40 Beach, Hillside and Treetop Casitas are modelled on authentic bahay kubo dwellings, each with its own golf cart for island exploration. This romantically remote island caters for those who wish to ‘hammock’ and beach comb their days in paradise, and for those who seek an active agenda, involvin...

Around Puerto Princesa City, Palawan
2007-07-05 14:33:00 This trip had been in the works since I purchased my Cebu Pacific P1 tickets. It's day 1 of my birthday trip to Palawan. The last time I was in Puerto Princesa was in 1997, exactly ten years ago. At the Manila Domestic Airport Terminal (I hope they replace this ageing airport soon), the line for the flight to Puerto Princesa was quite long already. Then I noticed an Express Counter for passengers without check-in luggage. I usually travel with my backpack only and it was just now that I noticed that counter. Anyway, there was no line so I got my boarding pass easily. When I arrived in Puerto Princesa, I was picked up at the airport by the staff of Puerto Pension. I had asked the help of the DOT Regional Office to help me find a decent budget hotel. And from the list they sent me, I decided to stay there since they were the cheapest on the list, had airport transfers, free breakfast, and accepted credit cards. When I arrived in the hotel, I found out they also booked tours for you. S...
