Anxiety/Panic attack worries you?
2008-05-20 13:26:00
If you're like most people then a big chunk of your anxiety usually involves a lot worry. Why do we worry? Because worry allows you to use your thoughts and mind to imagine what *could* happen in the future. This can be very useful... Worry can help you work out solutions to problems that may arise. Worry can help you avoid potential tricky or dangerous situations. Worry can help motivate you. Worrying may be a way to show other people that you're responsible or caring. All this applies to most people - except people who worry a lot. Why? Because believing that worry helps means you buy into the belief, at least at some level, that "worry is good". If you suffer chronic worry then believing that worry is good or helps you is a mental trap. After all if worry was useful to you then why is it causing you so much anxiety? So long as you believe that worry is good you will never fully be able let go of anxiety. It would be like someone trying to give up smoking, but at the same t...
Do you ever suffer from a fearful thought?(Anxiety/Panic attack)
2008-05-09 17:53:00
Do you ever suffer from a fearful thought you can't seem to get out of your mind? So what can be done for people who suffer from fearful thoughts? To begin, lets look at how a fearful thought is powered, and then how to discharge that fearful thought quickly. Say for example you are going about your daily business when a scary thought enters your mind. Maybe you fear you are about to have an anxiety attack. Maybe it's a fear about your health? Whatever the fear, the pattern that follows is usually predictable. You start to feel a knot n your stomach as you contemplate the thought, and you get sucked into a repetitive thinking pattern of fear. The strong emotion (fear) then powers the thought. When the thought comes again, your body 'remembers' the strong emotion, and the fearful thought has an even stronger connection in your mind. You may even continue to spend the rest of your day thinking about that fear. It can become very obsessive and may even keep you from con...

What is a Panic Attack?
2008-02-27 09:35:00
by Jon Rhodes What is a panic attack? It is normal, natural and common to get panicky from time to time. You may be late for work, think you can hear a burglar downstairs, or be ready to sit an exam. These feelings are normal and pass fairly quickly. They are simply down to our ?flight or fight? responses that our body has been equipped with to prepare for potentially threatening situations. The heart beats quicker and the digestive system closes down in order to allow the body to concentrate on the perceived threat. A panic attack has similarities with this, but there are notable differences. A panic attack often occurs when there is no obvious physical threat, and the feelings are stronger than ?normal? panic. However panic attacks are not dangerous and therefore nothing bad is actually going to happen to you. It is very important that you accept this. It is simply like a false alarm ? like an annoying smoke detector that goes off at the wrong times. The problem is that our ?alarm...
Dealing With Blood Pressure During Panic Attack
2008-02-07 23:46:00
Attacks are relatively short lived (usually less than 30 minutes) periods of intense anxiety or fear, which are apanied by such symptoms as palpitations, chest pain, sweating and shortness of breath.Symptoms may be misdiagnosed as a serious medical condition (e.Heart attack).Treatment will usually describe the fear as intense and report that they were about to die, lose control, have a heart attack. Also usually report an urgent desire to flee from wherever the attack is occurring.Recurrent attacks, some of the intense fearfulness may wane. Two characteristic types of panic attacks with different relationships between the onset of the attack and the presence or absence of situational triggers.Panic attacks: in which the onset of the panic attack is not associated with situational trigger (ie occurring spontaneously).Bound panic attack: in which the panic attack almost invariably occurs immediately on exposure to, or in anticipation of, the situational cue or trigger an immediate panic...

Anxiety Relaxation Techniques For Panic Attacks
2008-01-22 15:56:00
Anxiety relaxation techniques for when a panic attack hits. The body's immediate response is to fight the symptoms making the attack worse. Relaxation is what helps them go away.A panic/anxiety attack occurs when your body is extremely stressed and can no longer manage the stress. Your heart races, you start hyperventilating, your vision dims, you get dizzy. At the first sign of panic/anxiety, the key is to relax. Here are the techniques that work:1. Deep Breathing: Put one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach. Take a deep breath in and make the hand on your stomach move and the hand on your chest remain still. Takes a bit of practice, but with practice it gets easier. Take a deep breath in and hold it for a count of three. Then breathe it out through your mouth and count to five before taking the next deep breath. This prevents you from hyperventilating during an attack. You need to practice this breathing daily for at least ten minutes so that it becomes an automatic ...
Do you fear a panic attack all day every day?
2008-01-22 06:07:00
Sometimes people have the impression that anxiety is like being hooked up to an electroshock machine and that it just takes a flick of the switch to cause the flood of fear coursing through the body and letting way for a full blown PANIC ATTACK! People in this situation often feel that are lucky to make it through the day without that switch been flicked but in the back of their mind they fear that it could happen at any moment day or night, so they remain on high alert anticipating it. In fact most people who experience panic attacks, fear it in this manner. It is natural for people to think this way as often the panic attacks come forcefully and out of th e blue. The truth of the situation is however different. A panic attack does not lurk in the background waiting to pounce, it can feel that way in your mind if you are anxious all day but that is not how it really works. Panic attacks are actually something we decide to initiate when we feel out of control. It begins possibly ...

Distraction - A Cure of Panic Attack and Anxiety
2008-01-17 08:18:00
Today's Tip is about the benefits of DISTRACTION In order to move away from the generalized anxiety, which is the anxiety that seems to hover, both before and after the panic attack, you need to throw yourself 100% into whatever is at hand. What is needed is to engage regularly in an activity that stimulates you, and holds your complete attention, something in which you can become completely absorbed. The more physical the activity the better. Something that distracts you is a very valuable tool in taking your attention away from the uncomfortable sensation of anxiety that may be lingering in your body. The more you become involved in one of these activities the more you are engaging with life and the less stagnant and anxious you will feel. Some of the possible activities that interest you could be: Gardening, playing a musical instrument, sport, or simply havin g a good conversation with a friend. The idea here is to find something that you can repeat on a regular basis t...

Gratitude Is The Fastest Way To End Anxious Thoughts and Panic Attacks
2008-01-11 12:21:00
This is very simple technique but it is really powerful. Are you ready? When you practice this technique you will feel a lightness and greater sense of perspective on anything that has been troubling you. This activation of your heart's emotion will lift the heavy fog sensation anxious thought causes within minutes if done correctly. Begin by closing your eyes and moving your attention to your heart area. Imagine a feeling of warmth emanating from the center of your chest. If appropriate place your right hand there. If you are around people or driving etc. simply imagine your right hand resting on your heart area. Imagine this area glowing warmly for one to two minutes. Now, begin to focus on something in your life that you feel a genuine sense of appreciation for. This can be one or more things that you really appreciate having in your life (e.g., family, health, friends, work, your home, etc.). It is important to focus on things that spark a real sense of gratitude and a...
Panic Attack Journal
2008-01-03 07:36:00
Today I want to introduce you to a very powerful little technique for people who suffer from panic attacks (also known as anxiety attacks). It may not eliminate your panic attacks like the One Move* can but it is very good for getting through a difficult episode of anxiety and learning the key factors that trigger your panic attack. Let me explain it briefly here: When you feel the anxiety or panic a ttack building, and your thoughts become more fearful, take a pen and paper and begin to write down each and every feeling and thought you experience. Write them in detail exactly as you experience them as if you were a newspaper reporter. Go into as much detail as possible. How does it make you feel? What are the symptoms? How strong are the sensations? How scared do you feel on a scale of 1 to 10.etc Do not worry that you may be writing too much or too little. Try to elicit the first thought that started the worry and continue from there, describing the bodily sensations as they...

Laid Off? Can It Cause A Panic Attack?
2007-11-07 02:39:00
Anxiety attack is unpredictable, sudden, often discrete or not and is defined by a experience of fear, uncomfortableness and different other cognitive or somatic symptoms. In nearly all cases an anxiety attack comes along without any obvious cause altho one always exists. The one hurting might or might not actualize what goes on but his subconscious mind acknowledges it all. In most cases an anxiety attack will last about 10 minutes but can be even shorter, lasting only approximately five minutes. Then again, we likewise experience austere cases of anxiousness attacks that are induced from a cyclical series of episodes and could even last for hours. Anxiety attacks will affect people differently and few persons can even last out one as they experience it is about to come along.Causes of Anxiety Attack ExperienceThere are many reasons that can trigger anxiety attacks. In most cases younger people are more likely to develop them during high school and college years. This is because th...

Panic Attacks May Increase Heart Risk

www.cbsnews.comBy Salynn BoylesMore Heart Attacks Seen In Older Women Who Experience Panic AttacksOlder women who experience panic attacks appear to have an increased risk for having heart attacks or heart-related death, new research suggests.Postmenopausal women in the study who reported at least one full-blown panic attack within six months of being interviewed were four times as likely as other older women to have a heart attack or related death over the next five years. They were three times as likely to have either a heart attack, heart-related death, or stroke, and nearly twice as likely to die from any cause.Earlier studies have implicated depression as a risk factor for heart disease, but the new research is the first to suggest a direct link between anxiety-related panic attacks and heart attack and stroke risk.Harvard Medical School associate professor of psychiatry Jordan W. Smoller, M.D., who led the study team, says more research is needed to confirm the finding."There i...

Causes of Panic Attacks
2007-08-27 04:29:00
What Are The Causes of Panic Attacks. The short and obvious answer: panic attacks are caused by high anxiety. But, what exactly is anxiety? Understanding how anxiety crops up will help you defeat panic attacks. Anxiety is probably the most basic of all emotions. While anxiety, by its nature, is an unpleasant sensation, it is not by any means dangerous. One of the biggest myths surrounding anxiety is that it is harmful and can lead to a number of various life-threatening conditions. Definition of Anxiety Anxiety is defined as a state of apprehension or fear resulting from the anticipation of a real or imagined threat, event, or situation. It is one of the most common human emotions experienced by people at some point in their lives. However, most people who have never experienced a panic attack, or extreme anxiety, fail to realize the terrifying nature of the experience. Extreme dizziness, blurred vision, tingling and feelings of breathlessness--and that's just the tip of the iceber...

Television’s panic attack
2007-08-25 10:22:00
Jeremy Paxman’s recent speech on declining standards in television misses the point. Paxman is significant in that he is who the BBC’s head of News, Roger Mosey, cited to me, when defending the BBC’s record as an example of the critical fourth estate, shortly after their post Iraq humiliation by Butler. He wrote an article about this. But Paxman is perhaps the past rather then the future of the fourth estate, which might be why he is upset. This is how I put it on Comment is Free (CIF) (The Guardian comment section), in response the the article below: Comment is free: Televisions panic attack The irony of this debate on media, played out right here on CIF, is how it misses the issue of the medium being the message. Whilst Paxman points out the importance of good content, he misses out the new relationships with the media that digital technologies imply. For the under 25’s the internet is the primary medium, above TV as a source of information. On TV it is ...

When You Need Medication For Panic Attacks
2007-07-18 20:55:00
By: Ian Jefferson It is necessary to take panic attack medication for the treatment of panic disorders. There is a wide variety of medications available and most need a prescription and cannot be purchased over the counter. When a person suffers from a panic disorder, the symptoms may include accelerated heartbeat, palpitations, sweating and various forms of distortions. One of the problems associated with suffering from severe panic attacks is that the person suffers from fear and anxiety of future panic attacks which may increase the symptoms and could cause other health problems. Treatment with panic attack medication is therefore essential.Panic attack medications that allow the individual to feel calm, relaxed and at ease belong to a group of medicines referred to as Benzodiazepines, also referred to as sedatives or tranquilizers. When taking this form of panic attack medication, one may experience a decrease in panic attack disorder symptoms. The disadvantage of using Be...
