What Hypnoanalysts Believe about Anxiety, Panic, Depression and Low Self-Co
2008-07-15 19:37:00
As I have said elsewhere, looking for a solution - dare we say Cure - for anxiety and other mental health problems through regression is controversial. At the moment, hypnoanalysis (also called pure hypnosis) is at the cutting edge of addressing anxiety, panic, depression etc through releasing emotion attached to past trauma, especially in terms of guilt and shame. Let's look at the treatment of these anxiety and self esteem conditions through the eyes of a hypnoanalyst. They believe that anxiety, depression and other common mental health (and many physical) problems arise from trauma that occurred in very early childhood. They believe that the trauma is ring-fenced off in a part of the brain where they are probably unconscious but sort of seep out - poisoning the rest of life by supposedly protecting us from perceived threats or causing low self-esteem and low self-worth. More Info on Overcoming Anxiety - click here.  Through the process of hypnoanalysis we are able to u...

Every day I watch my 401(k) and Roth IRA slip a little farther into the red. My mind races with second guesses... shoulda, woulda, coulda... that kind of thing. The bottom line for a twenty something like myself is that you shouldn't be investing money that you may need right away anyway. I'm going to be a net investor for the next 20-30-40 years. As Warren Buffett would say, I don't care what is happening in the next quarter. I care about whats happening in the next twenty years. I see some of my major investments as outperformers for the long term. That's whats important, not the day to day drama on Wall Street... (Photo originally uploaded by chrisfriel.)
Will the Market Panic?
2008-06-11 00:00:00
Don't Panic -- Coldplay Prices are sinking like stones, and we are all done for. It it time to panic? People will not panic this year. This will be the last year of denial. Only the weakest of speculators have been flooded from the market at this point, and there are many, many more who will be hopelessly underwater and drowning in debt as time goes on. Most of the buying this year has been by foolish knife-catchers who still believe in the fallacies of kool aid intoxication and bought now that they are no longer "priced out." (Of course, now they are "priced in" forever...) There is still the widespread belief among the general public that house prices will return to the peak in a couple of years and everything will be like it was during the bubble rally. That is not going to happen. This fall and winter, prices will make another big drop just as they did last fall and winter. That drop will put fear in the hearts of everyone who owns speculative real estate (which means almost ev...
FLASH: OilPANIC UK-style as British government urges citizens not to panic
2008-06-10 18:56:00
And you know what happens when the government tells people not to panic...Oh, the lines at the pumps will be interesting to watch. Kind of like the lines outside of Northern Rock locations last year. And the lines at the gas pumps in Phoenix a few years back when they had a pipeline bust.Anyone feeling 1970's right about now? Got a little Iran problem building too just to make it fun...Drivers urged not to panic buy fuelA planned four day strike by 500 oil tanker drivers has been attacked by Downing Street as the Government urged motorists not to panic buy fuel amid fears of petrol shortages.Talks aimed at resolving the row are due to be held at a secret location under the chairmanship of the conciliation service Acas, but time is running out to break the deadlocked row.Prime Minister Gordon Brown's spokesman said contingency plans were in hand to minimise disruption using new measures put in place last week. He told reporters: "We believe that this strike is unnecessary and we...
Controlling Panic And Target Fixation while Riding
2008-06-09 15:00:00
One dictionary defines panic as "a sudden, overpowering, often contagious terror." That's a remarkably accurate description of panic as it applies to motorcyclists. From over 35 years of riding,  I can tell you that panic is by far the greatest cause of crashes.   Ironically, it's an instinct programmed into our minds back when we were defending ourselves against saber-toothed tigers that's the culprit, not panic brought on by the more commonly feared left-turning vehicles, lack of traction, etc., that are usually listed as the greatest dangers to our motorcycling well-being. Controlling panic is best approached on two fronts.  The first is understanding what triggers panic and (obviously) avoiding the situations that create it.  Any number of things can trigger panic, and they vary from person to person, but most are linked to time, speed or some state of surprise.  These, not surprisingly, are interrelated as well. Of course, a...

Panic! At the Wall Street
2008-06-07 01:46:00
Today was a wild day on the Street. With jobless claims, record-breaking oil and a stock sell-off - it was one hell of a Friday. One of the funny things about Wall Street and the stock market is that dozens of well-intentioned analysts could be screaming about ‘overreactions’ and ‘throwing out the baby with the bathwater’, ...
Panic Stops - Emergency Braking & How to Avoid them
2008-06-06 16:00:00
Some of the most gut-wrenching moments while riding occur when something magically appears in front of you and you have to jam on the binders to avoid a collision.   You can make life easier by learning how to avoid these situations altogether, or knowing exactly what to do when it comes time to stop suddenly.   The quickest way to stop is by using a combination of both front and rear brakes. The front brake should be applied gradually, rather than grabbed suddenly. This will decrease the chance of it locking up. The rear brake should be used firmly, to the point of impending lock up.   Both tires will howl on the verge of lock up, and that's when the quickest stops are made. Find an empty parking lot and practice different scenarios including bumps, while turning, and in the rain.   Motorcycles equipped with Anti-Lock Braking Systems (ABS) can be hauled down to a rapid stop without ever locking the tires up. While riding, you should be scanning ...

Want To Get Rid Of Anxiety Panic Attacks? Then Learn To Smile First!

Do you remember the saying, ?Laugh and the world laughs with you.?? Forget laughing. People these days have even forgotten how to smile. Yes, I absolutely hate the Beatles. They’re the most overrated band in the history of the world. And frankly, I don’t care about their influence down the generations - there were much better bands in that era who just don’t get the respect they’re due.

Anxiety/Panic attack worries you?
2008-05-20 13:26:00
If you're like most people then a big chunk of your anxiety usually involves a lot worry. Why do we worry? Because worry allows you to use your thoughts and mind to imagine what *could* happen in the future. This can be very useful... Worry can help you work out solutions to problems that may arise. Worry can help you avoid potential tricky or dangerous situations. Worry can help motivate you. Worrying may be a way to show other people that you're responsible or caring. All this applies to most people - except people who worry a lot. Why? Because believing that worry helps means you buy into the belief, at least at some level, that "worry is good". If you suffer chronic worry then believing that worry is good or helps you is a mental trap. After all if worry was useful to you then why is it causing you so much anxiety? So long as you believe that worry is good you will never fully be able let go of anxiety. It would be like someone trying to give up smoking, but at the same t...

Confusion, Panic, and Remorse
2008-05-18 00:44:00
Off stage, a bigger throng than usual pressed in on me.  They clapped and murmured, “Thank you, thank you.”  “Malcolm, Malcolm.”  You’d think I’d get used to it, but no.  The crux of my being is exposed.  It’s grotesque and unseemly, and after a big public spillover, I want to hide in a dark, empty room.  Except last night, upon seeing the boy Tyler, the sadness pooled deeper and deeper, while all the while a wall of hands patted my back and shoulders, head and chest. [This post is an excerpt from Diary of a Heretic, the novel. Click here to read the first episode, or here to read the previous one.] Stephanie and her new boyfriend Rafe, Maggie and her trumpet-playing boyfriend Lyle, Louie and his girlfriend, Demetria, Professors Llewlleyn and Smith, the people I knew, clamored for special attention, kisses and handholding.  I noticed Carlos at the top of the staircase.  He mouthed “home run” and shook a loosely formed wri...

Yuri Manga: Strawberry Panic, Volume 2 (English)
2008-05-13 22:25:00
Have you visited translator Anastasia Moreno's fabulously wonderful blog, Manga Gunkan yet? Go. It's not often you're going to get such a unique mix of fun tidbits about translating, manga, military adventures and cute dachsund pictures - all written up in both Japanese and English, for your reading pleasure. Check it every day.And speaking of Ana's mad translation skills, today we're talking about Strawberry Panic, Volume 2, translated skillfully by mad Ana. (For a summation of both my frustration with the SP fandom and the plot, please check my review of the Japanese edition from December 2006.)Today, I'm just talking about the reproduction into English. I'll never get tired of telling you that Seven Seas does a very, very good job. Ana's translation captures the soap opera-like, over the top-ness, and the adaptation, by Lorelei Laird, allows the dialogue to speak for itself. Considering how absurdly melodramatic everything is, I think it would make a pretty great J-drama....

Panic At The Disco Measure Their Success With Live Shows: 'You Can't Downlo
2008-05-12 14:02:00
We caught up with the Pretty. Odd. rockers as they headline the Honda Civic Tour.By James Montgomery, with reporting by John Norris Panic at the Disco's Brendon Urie Photo: Gareth Cattermole/ Getty Images Now that they're done with the online puzzles and have successfully weathered the storm of punctuation-gate, Panic at the Disco are finally getting down to the business of being a band. Or, more specifically, a band on the road, promoting their second album and trying to convince the naysayers that they're more than just a flash in the pan. Which is why, in their current headlining slot on the Honda Civic Tour, they've ditched the 10-ring circus that accompanied them on their last jaunt, replacing all that ephemera with a stripped-down, focused set that showcases the music and not, say, the contortionist mimes. So how's business been? Well, it sort of depends on how you look at things. Because while that second album, Pretty. Odd., has garnered positive reviews, it...

Do you ever suffer from a fearful thought?(Anxiety/Panic attack)
2008-05-09 17:53:00
Do you ever suffer from a fearful thought you can't seem to get out of your mind? So what can be done for people who suffer from fearful thoughts? To begin, lets look at how a fearful thought is powered, and then how to discharge that fearful thought quickly. Say for example you are going about your daily business when a scary thought enters your mind. Maybe you fear you are about to have an anxiety attack. Maybe it's a fear about your health? Whatever the fear, the pattern that follows is usually predictable. You start to feel a knot n your stomach as you contemplate the thought, and you get sucked into a repetitive thinking pattern of fear. The strong emotion (fear) then powers the thought. When the thought comes again, your body 'remembers' the strong emotion, and the fearful thought has an even stronger connection in your mind. You may even continue to spend the rest of your day thinking about that fear. It can become very obsessive and may even keep you from con...

Band's new look is also eco-friendly. Panic at the Disco's Brendon Urie (file) Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images NEW YORK — If Panic at the Disco didn't do a complete 180, musically and aesthetically, with their latest album Pretty. Odd., it was at least a left turn: Beatlesque arrangements, strings, horns, a pastoral vibe and wood-grain-and-flowers artwork that seemed to have come straight from late-'60s San Francisco. So you had to figure that when the Las Vegas four took their show on the road, it would look a good deal different from the circus-tent hijinks of their last go-around — and it does. At New York's Roseland Ballroom this week, their latest stop as headliners of the 2008 Honda Civic Tour, the boys offered up woodsy set pieces, projections of flora and fauna, and mic stands wrapped in lights and flowers — behind which stood the green gentlemen, all decked out in vests (no velvet, thank you very much). "We wanted it to be just us onstage....

U.K. Marijuana Panic Continues
2008-05-06 19:23:00
British Prime Minister plans to stiffen pot penalties. The national hysteria over "skunk" marijuana shows no signs of abating in Great Britain, as Prime Minister Gordon Brown is poised to overrule his advisors and reclassify cannabis as a more dangerous drug. Lost in the debate is any semblance of reasonable discussion about scientific research on marijuana.British health authorities continue to find the basics of cannabis to be an inscrutable mystery. Some months ago, they declared that "skunk" cannabis was linked to the onset of schizophrenia. Since no one knows what, exactly, causes schizophrenia, and recent findings continue to point toward genetic causes, this was a doubly astonishing claim. Now, continuing in the same vein of misinformation, The University College of London reports that different strains of marijuana cause different types of psychological maladies. Recently, Prime Minister Brown "publically described new strains of cannabis as 'lethal,' as if they could trigg...
