Fighting can be Easy...with Avocado Papaya Toasts
2008-04-25 12:29:00 facile scappatoia/easy way out Yup! you read me correctly. Fighting can be easy. Fighting cancer, that is, with food! There are tons of recipes that have multiple steps, organic foods, etc - all fabulous and available at our fingertips. But sometimes, there just isn't time for all that. When time runs short, its important not to make unhealthy slips too often during those crunch times. This evening, Sharona and I had a "working" sushi dinner. We both have individual presentations coming up for the leadership academy with which we are a part; presentations that will be in front of several fellow administrators and many of the school system's higher ups - Executive Directors, Area Superintendents, etc. Now, both of us have worked with multiple members of audience, as our boss last year was one of the Area Sups, but presenting about ourselves and not curriculum? Ugh!! So...both a little stressed, we went to our favorite little sushi restaurant. As usual, it was yummy! But, like always,...

Mock Green Papaya Salad
2008-04-24 14:15:00 As you may have noticed, I love blogging. When something prevents me from engaging in my (almost) daily trio of cooking, eating, and writing about it, I feel a bit deprived. The strangest triggers will spark a barrage of blogging ideas, and then I’m off. One of the greatest side effects of blogging is that it encourages you to try new recipes. After all, how can you blog about a novel, interesting dish every few days if you eat the selfsame foods day after day? Still, there’s a certain built-in sense of loss in this pattern. Often, I’ll find a recipe that’s simply spectacular, and the HH and I will devour it with great gusto and appreciation. Then I’ll be struck with a sense of melancholy at the knowledge that I’ll likely never cook that dish again, because I must move on to the next one on my ever-expanding list. It’s somewhat akin to taking a long, boring flight on a business trip and experiencing the serendipitous joy...

2008-03-19 20:04:00 By: Darrell MillerAlthough seventy years ago the average life expectancy was age 62, today people are not only living well into their 80s and 90s, but they are also living better too. Doing activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, jogging, hiking, gardening, and golfing, it seems as if everyone is on the go, no matter what their age. Since nobody wants to spend retirement in a doctor’s office, it is important to start planning for a longer, more vibrant life. Huge advances are made each day in the understanding of how men and women age that help to improve our chances of living long, healthy lives. Some of the most impressive findings have shown that nutritional supplements can help, mainly specially formulated papaya preparation, which is able to fight two of the primary reasons we get old, oxidative stress and immune system decline.Papaya, a tangy tasting fruit, is now appearing more and more in the produce departments of most grocery stores. Papaya- Health benefits
2008-02-13 12:42:00 "Papaya" is a pear shaped tropical fruit and than be as long as 7 to 20 inches. This fruit is available in the market throughout the year, but most abundant during the summer.Papaya is an amazingly rich source of the proteolytic enzymes. These are the chemicals that enable the digestion of protein. The ripe fruit is easily digestible and prevents constipation. Papaya juice helps in relieving infections of the colon and can help break down pus and mucus. Papain, which is the most important of these enzymes in the papaya, is extracted and dried as a powder for use to aid the digestion, and it is often used as a meat tenderizer, the enzyme partially breaking down the meat fibres - digesting them in fact. Papaya has got rejuvenating properties, especially for the control of premature ageing.Poor digestion leaves the body without the correct nutrients. Biotechnology Resurrects The Hawaiian Papaya Industry

Papaya Burfi
2008-01-09 06:01:00 Since I accounced AFAM this month, many of you have got back to me saying all you do with papaya is cut and eat it. Its not even a favourite among the many fruits available out there. But contrary to what we may have thought about this modest fruit, its loaded with nutrients too. Also, please feel free to use raw papaya also in your recipe!Lets see what whfoods.com has to say: Papayas offer not only the luscious taste and sunlit color of the tropics, but are rich sources of antioxidant nutrients such as carotenes, vitamin C and flavonoids; the B vitamins, folate and pantothenic acid; and the minerals, potassium and magnesium; and fiber. Together, these nutrients promote the health of the cardiovascular system and also provide protection against colon cancer. Now do you need more reasons to start 'cooking' up recipes with this wonder fruit also known as 'fruit of the angels?'.Here is a simple and sweet recipe to get you kickstarted.Papaya BurfiWhat I Used:Grated ripe papaya - 1 cu...

Papaya an aphrodisiac
2007-11-07 20:45:00 Papa Yeah Papa yah!!!The papaya (from Carib via Spanish), is the fruit of the tree Carica papaya, in the genus Carica. It is native to the tropics of the Americas, and was cultivated in Mexico several centuries before the emergence of the Mesoamerican classic cultures. Nowadays, the papaya is also known as fruta bomba (Cuba), lechosa (Venezuela, Puerto Rico, the Philippines and the Dominican Republic), mamão, papaw (Sri Lankan English), Papol Guslabu (Tree melon - in Sinhalese ), pawpaw or tree melon, as well as tree melon (木瓜) in Chinese and đu đủ in Vietnamese. It is a small tree, the single stem growing from 5 to 10 m tall, with spirally arranged leaves confined to the top of the trunk; the lower trunk is conspicuously scarred where leaves and fruit were borne. The leaves are large, 50-70 cm diameter, deeply palmately lobed with 7 lobes. The tree is usually unbranched if unlopped. The flowers are similar in shape to the flowers of the Plumeria but are much smaller and w...

Cure for Dengue - Papaya Juice
2007-10-23 11:30:00 With thanks from Waseem Ullah MalikI would like to share this interesting discovery from a classmate's son who has just recovered from dengue fever. Apparently, his son was in the critical stage when his pallet counts dropped to 15 after15 liters of blood transfusion. His father was so worried that he sought another friend's recommendation which saved the life of his son. He told that he gave his son raw juice of the papaya leaves. From a pallet count of 45 after 20 liters of blood transfusion, and after drinking the raw papaya leaf juice, his pallet count jumps instantly to 135. Even the doctors were surprised. After the second day he was discharged. He asked me to pass this good news around.Take tow pieces of raw papaya leaves (no stem or sap), clean, pound and squeeze them with filter cloth getting just about one tablespoon per leaf. Serve two tablespoon once a day. Do not boil, cook or rinse with hot water as it may loose its strength. It is very bitter and you have to swallow i...

Exotic Ya' Make a Jamaica Jerk Shrimp With Mango Papaya Salsa
2007-10-14 07:43:00 Up until now I have always posted my own recipes but have newly become a recipezarr member and thought I would try some other peoples recipes. We have a tradition in a house where about once a week we do what is called meat on the stone. It is a large stone heated in the oven and placed over burners. It is a nice novelty, you cut up several uncooked meats and cook them together at the table. My husband and I had this in a restaurant one night, they served steak. We thought it was great so I started to look for where I could get these from. I found my first in Spain and then I bought my second in Switzerland. The one I got in Switzerland is electric, so the stone is heated over electric hot plates. They both work equally as well, but the electric does take less time to heat up. Anyway we had this the other night and I thought I would try something different. I found this recipe on the recipezarr sight, posted by another member (To see more photo's of this recipe taken by the member or...

Recipe: Papaya and Avocado Salad
2007-09-24 20:34:00 Happy Autumn Everyone! Wow, time is really flying! I have so busy working these past few weeks, I forgot that I still had this summer-y recipe waiting in the wings to get posted. Roberto and I are heading for a much needed vacation to New England to visit friends and family the second week of October and so I have been working feverishly hard on the Genesis project - typing out recipes, meeting with food vendors, collaborating with the menu design, etc. I have also been invited to participate in a very exciting blog event - I will reveal more about that later. But anyway, here is the long awaited second part to my Giada De Laurentiis tribute. Although the ingredients are summer, the colors are fall! Enjoy everyone! I adore papaya ? it has probably become my favorite fruit of all time ? it has a wonderful creamy texture and is not too sweet but not at all bitter. I love eating it straight for breakfast or with a dollop of cardamom whipped cream for dessert. Paired in this salad wit...
