2007-11-02 06:13:00 It is Tuesday and we are at a truckstop near Seattle. We left Minnesota on Sunday night and travelled literally all day Monday with a double driver to get to the coast, over 1600 miles. More about that later. There was a horrific accident on the way into Detroit from Cleveland. A lorry had gone up an embankment and fallen on some cars. There was nothing left. It was raining and everywhere looked pretty grim. Detroit was rough, really rough. I guess it is just a run down city, home of the car industry in the U.S., but I certainly felt no need to run the gauntlet and do any sight seeing whatsoever. Infact the furthest I walked all day was to the gig or to the front to grab a photo. But, interesting venue. A massive cinema built in 1939 which must have been really impressive in it's time. Ben from Vic Firth came to drop my new batch of sticks and brought new shirts, always good on tour and there was another good response at the gig despite a couple of technical hitches. Solid reactions have been a real bonus to me as I was pretty much expecting nothing from a partisan Nightwish crowd. Nick, driver, was cut loose for a few days to drop the van and trailer and we headed in to Canada. We crossed the border at 8am with no hitches as we expected long delays and we were parked up in Montreal by late morning. Metropolis is a great big venue. It holds 2500 and was sold out! We sat and watched the final grand prix with all of our Finnish friends as Hamilton bowed out and the Finnish finished first. I was pleased because atleast Alonso didn't win and if Hamilton had beaten Raikonnen we could have had no lights or PA for the night and the atmosphere could have turned slightly sour! It is funny how many people are mentioning the fact that they are reading these blogs and enjoying them, so off we go with some more Moments of Metal Mayhem.General mood, mid tour blues have set in a bit. Everyone is missing their families and can be a little grouchy although thanks to wireless internet and Skype everyone is finding it easy to call home. My two and a half year old, Charlie, normally says something like, " I'm Spiderman....bye!" or, " Is it nice in Denmark?....bye!" or just , "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" when he is asked if he wants to talk to me.So, what about the gigs. 2007-09-26 04:41:00 Since the dawn of time man has strived and foraged to find the necessary basics to sustain life and to keep the grip on the slender thread of life as we know it. Shift forward a few million years and we find Paradise Lost's tour bus with neanderthal man desperately trying to find wireless internet! Welcome to week number two where things have been a little more silly, alcohol has flowed and two days off have been had, chewed up and spat out. Everyone was ready for a day off after Portugal. We were all tired and needed a release. Seven show days in a row is tough at any level. We ended up in Santander (Northern Spain). A nice sunny day. We were out late for dinner and then we found an Australian bar where booze flowed freely and I was able to watch Manchester United's fine victory in Lisbon...Read the complete post here. 2007-09-20 06:38:00 Well, here we are nearly one week into the tour. No one has been arrested, sent home or hospitalised but there is time! So, who is on this tour? Aside from the band there is Gary the driver, Little Rob our sound guy and tour manager who is a fellow Mancunian thus breaking the misery of our dour Yorkshire chums. Milly and Danny who are teching, Paul the Dutchman doing lights and Mel on merch. Paul has an uncanny look of our own Mr Holmes and keeps getting stopped for autographs while his bizarre nasal laugh which resembles the sound of a train has earned him the monicker of The Flying Dutchman. Mel, bless her, is on her first tour but is holding up well.Band wise we have German band Eyes Of Eden and Canada's Neurosonic who have just come off the Family values tour in America with Korn and Evanessence.
