Chocolate paradise and every spiritual blessing ~ Guest Blog
2012-01-09 08:01:00
Chocolate surrounded me. Left, right, ahead, and behind. Everywhere I turned, chocolate lay in great mounds. Every shape and size, wrapped and unwrapped, with nuts and without, cream-filled and nougat, round and rectangle. I have dreamed of a chocolate paradise such as this many times, but this wasn?t a dream. This time I stood in ...
Bird Of Paradise Creates Colourful Dance With Microscopic Mirrors in its Fe
2011-12-19 16:44:00
From Discover Technology: In a small forest clearing in Papua New Guinea, a male six-wired bird of paradise is getting ready for a show-stopping number. He rears up and spreads his wings so that they encircle his body like a ballerina's skirt. He begins to dance, bobbing from side to sid
UConn Men Escape Paradise With a Win Over FSU
2011-11-26 21:39:00
Yesterday when the UConn Huskies men's basketball team blew a 17 point lead and lost to UCF, we were left to wonder how they would respond in the third place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis against Florida State. Well they came out against the Seminoles and played well until they blew a 10 point lead in the second half. But this time there was a different result. It took three late free throws from Ryan Boatright to force overtime and from there Shabazz Napier took over as the Huskies would squeak out a 78-76 win over the Seminoles to win the third place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis at Imperial Arena at Atlantis in the Bahamas. The No. 4 Huskies improve to 6-1 while the No. 22 Seminoles fall to 5-2. Boatright came up huge for the Huskies late in his first collegiate game after missing the first six games due to suspension by the NCAA. With the Huskies trailing by three, Napier missed a three pointer and got his own rebound. He dished it off to Boatright who was fouled on his three p...
No Paradise This Time Around For Huskies
2011-11-26 00:57:00
Last season when the UConn Huskies went to Maui for the EA Sports Invitational, we caught a glimpse of how good they might be. This year, while in the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis, we were hoping for the same thing. Instead, we are now left wondering how the team will respond as Marcus Jordan, yes the son of Michael Jordan, put his UCF Knights team on his back in the second half and led them to a 68-63 upset win over UConn in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis at Imperial Arena at Atlantis in the Bahamas. The No. 4 Huskies, who fall to 5-1 on the season and see their 16-game winning streak snapped, will take on the No. 21 Florida State Seminoles for third place on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. UCF improves to 4-1 and will play the Harvard Crimson for the title at 4:30 p.m. Both of those games will be televised on Versus. M. Jordan had 20 points and led his team with seven rebounds and seven assists while Keith Clanton also added 20 points and six rebounds. Isaiah Sykes adde...

Claire van der Boom as Danny's ex, RachelThis was an explosive season finale - literally.  It also looks like "Off The Map" is off the air for good.  Bummer, I really liked that show.I'll put forth the best dialogue, so that no one will inadvertently see the spoilerish materialSteve and Danno were tracking down a suspect to interrogate and found him at an Army surplus store/warehouse.  As they were walking through the place, the following conversation ensured:Danno: Hope you like it, this is what it's going to look like when you die.  This is your heaven. You want anything while we're here? New ammo belt? Night vision goggles?  Whoa, whoa...powdered eggs!Steve: Let me tell you something. I'd take powdered eggs...
A Dreamer's Paradise: Joffrey Ballet's Rising Stars

"Woven Dreams" by Edward Liang. Photo by Herbert MigdollImagine you're asleep, and Victoria Jaiani, Fabrice Calmels, Anastacia Holden, and the rest of the Joffrey dancers are weaving leaps and turns through the corners of your mind. As you wake, you find yourself in a foreign place with people you may or may not now, and you feel as though you're flying, falling, or walking on air.Sound like a dream? Good, because it is one. Tonight was opening night of Joffrey Ballet's Rising Stars, the final performance of the company's season. A unique arrangement of diverse choreography, the show was a journey through dreams, reality, the human mind, and pieces of a past recreated to live another day in the mind...

actor Christopher ShyerFirst, a quick word about "The Good Wife."  Last night's episode had Christopher Shyer, who plays Marcus on "V" as a doctor who discriminates against patients who lead a "wild" lifestyle in their youth and moves a girl off the transplant list.  That's a big legal no-no, and his hospital got sued by Lockhart-Gardner.  A great show, and normally stoic Alecia Florrick finally had an emotional moment and broke down.  Also a nice shot of CBS 2's Rob Johnson playing what else, a CBS Chicago news anchor.   Maybe NBA MVP Derrick Rose will get some screen time on the show, as he was mentioned in a episode this season. (See how I worked the sports angle in?)Five-O...

Five-Oh was back last night, but they perhaps should have taken another week off.  Only a mention of Wo-fat. Instead it was about a murder and a cover up.  Saturday Night Live cast from 1975I watched Oprah this morning.  Not that I'm an a regular, but she did have Tina Fey, Tracey Morgan, Dana Carvey, Jane Curtain, and Chevy Chase in a salute to SNL.  There were also taped messages from other former castmembers, and lots of highlights.  If you are in Chicago, catch it again at 11 on ABC - 7.Our other paradise, "Off the Map" had a new episode last week as well.  Dr. Fuller is vexed about his feelings for Dr. Minard.  Meanwhile, she is off with...

Don't forget to check out or Sports Themed Oscar Contest.Zach Guilford and Cheech MarinThis week on "Off The Map" our intrepid doctors in paradise were the victims of a robbery that saw the clinic looted of all its pharmaceuticals, including those needed for a life saving surgery.  Dr. Otis offered to go into the jungle and score some smack, while they waited for resupplies. Dr. Keeton reluctantly agreed, so long as he took someone with him.  Cole chose Dr. Minard. In the meantime, Keeton went ahead with the surgery, only to have the spinal block wear off, just as Cole and Minard returned.Dr. Fuller had to deal with a case of viral meningitis so he went back to see Dr....

CBS decided to capitalize on football fans to use the Steelers - Jets game as a lead in for their special Sunday night episode.  Checking tonight's listings, they are re running the episode where a navy SEAL takes hostages aboard the USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor.  If you haven't seen that one, it's worth a watch.I'd like to also take this opportunity to say that I'm going to do an about face on the ABC show "Off the Map." since it's filmed in Hawaii, I felt this was a good forum to comment on it as well.  The characters with their unusual back stories are becoming a bit more intriguing, "Plastics" the young surgeon had a bit of a soccer...
Paradise Lost - A Hawaii Five-O blog
2011-01-11 15:35:00
Alas, CBS pulled a great fake out over the weekend.  Their promos for Five-O neglected to mention there wasn't a new episode of the Steve and Danno show last night.  So after the BCS game, I turned my attention to the winter finale of one of the shows I can really relate to - "Men of A Certain Age."  The show really cut close to home as Terry (Scott Bakula) decided to get a colonoscopy, and convinces his buddies to get one as well.  They all venture to Palm Springs where they make a golf weekend out of the occasion.  For anyone who has ever undergone the procedure, including myself, knows that you can't eat for 24 hours before, and...

Movie review: 'Tron: Legacy' is an exciting geek paradise
2010-12-16 13:09:00
'Tron: Legacy'Mindless action that's like the weirdest, most exhilarating office party Atari ever had***1/2 (out of five)After 20 years not knowing the location of his father, Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) finds his dad (Jeff Bridges) trapped in the futuristic digital universe Pops created back when arcade games were popular and cyber-characters hurling discs at each other was a novel, mind-blowing idea. The father/son reunion is complicated by the villainous agenda of Clu (Bridges, through impressive special effects, as a younger man), but at least Sam gets help from a variety of hotties (Olivia Wilde, Beau Garrett) in ultra-form-fitting attire. The buzz: In 1982 "Tron" was ahead of its time and, sorry, a plodding onslaught of technological mumbo-jumbo. Zynga’s 250 Million User Base – Advertisers’ Paradise
2010-10-26 14:00:00
No matter how much you hate those numerous requests of Farmville you get on Facebook, Zynga will always find users who are interested in Farmville or other games like Mafia Wars. Zynga has had some recent setbacks in the form of a law suit filed on behalf on consumers whose personal information was leaked via games developed by Zynga on Facebook. But if you look at the magnitude of Zynga, the law suit seems like a minuscule issue. Advertisers still want to come to Zynga thanks to the 250 million user base that Zynga boasts off, or in other words Mass Reach. Zynga ties-up with SVNetwork Zynga has for long been an advertiser’s haven. But now, it has taken advertising through its games even further by tying up with SVNetwork. Through this tie-up, advertisements are now ‘engagement ads’. We are not just talking about rich media or video ads, these are ads that pays the consumer! In terms of a regular rich media or video ad, the ad is played if the consumer clicks or r...

I had enough things/subjects to blog about, it was just a matter of other things on my mind, lack of energy, focus etc...But little by little I was getting back in the mood again to start blogging. Last weekend my wife N. and I went to two concerts by Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (TSPO), last Friday and Korn, last Sunday. Ginkaku-ji in Kyoto, Japan - The Shogun's Silver Pavilion Paradise
2010-08-17 20:53:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Leaving the temple precinct of Nanzen-ji in central Kyoto, I headed north on foot along the pretty canal-side path that is now more famously known as the Philosopher's Walk. Come springtime, this delightful walkway is one of the city's most popular venues for hanami, or cherry blossom viewing parties. This early in the morning the path was eerily quiet, though pleasantly so, allowing me ample time to reflect on my memorable visit the previous day to Kinkaku-ji and its fabulous "Golden Pavilion". My plan was to arrive at Ginkaku-ji, the "Temple of the Silver Pavilion", in plenty of time to beat the crowds and to absorb the beauty of its gardens in peaceful solitude.Rate and Review : Ginkaku-ji in Kyoto, Japan - The Shogun's Silver Pavilion Paradise
Hilton Head Island, a golf and ocean lovers paradise!
2010-07-02 00:41:00
Hilton Head Island has some of the most pristine beaches and prestigious golf courses in South Carolina, as well as the most blood-thirsty mosquitoes that I have ever encountered. Sunscreen, bug spray and a great camera are necessities for this adventure! On my first visit to Hilton Head a few years back I was a golf beginner and so Hilton Head golf was not a top priority: it was all about the sun and fun surrounding the island. My husband and I chose to stay at Sea Pines Resort, a 5,000 acre sprawling enclave of rental apartments, villa rentals, hotels and an inn spanning a third of the entire Island. The Resort is also home to Harbour Town Golf Links, home to the PGA Tour's Verizon Heritage event (congrats to Jim Furyk!) Harbour Town is also named as one of the ten most beautiful golf courses in the country by ForbesTraveler.com and crowned as the number twelve resort course in the nation. Although I considered it essential to have access to the amenities which make the stay ...

The endOf everything that stands, the end.No safety or surprise, the end.I'll never look into your eyes again."To get some inspiration to write this wrap up, I decided to listen this epic song from The Doors debut album.  As the first notes began to play, I thought how appropriate. Of course, if you listen to the whole song, it has an entire different  meaning.  But suffice to say, these opening lines say a great deal about a television program that a lot of people spent the better part of six seasons, as well indulged time in the forums and visiting a number of...

Paradise, Day 3
2009-11-24 19:21:00
The next time I come here to Hawaii,(note the optimism)   I will have a new knee and less girth.  I am still on Chicago time, and so I rise in time to see the parade of joggers and runners starting their day with an ocean view and a healthy regimen.  I am feeling pretty blob-like, since the peg-leg stance I have to utilize to get around has left me limited.  That is no excuse - I am able to do non-weight bearing exercise.  I tried the exercise bike, and when the electronic readout told me I burned 80 calories in a boring 1/2 hour, I quit.  I will have to work on this. Maybe I will ask for an...

The ocean has its usual chop, and I am going to be a brave sailor and go out to the Molokini crater and watch the family descend.  Rachel and Kathryn have been certified by our friend, Pat Hammer of Scuba Emporium, so I know they are ready.  Both of them have dived in a cold, dark quarry to get their open water credentials.  I think the Pacific will hold far more joy and light.  I will be up top, following their bubbles and chatting with Matt's girlfriend, Justine.  We may or may not snorkel.  My main concern is how to keep from burning, and to disguise the ruins.  At my age, cover ups are the key to self-respect.  Hawaii is...
Wanted: Your very own beach paradise island – Bohol or Bantayan?
2009-11-13 09:33:00
Aside from Boracay, the famous island with the ‘whitest beach in Asia’, the Philippines have many more paradise islands with white sandy beaches to offer. 2 of them can be found in the Visayas, a region relatively protected from the onslaught of countless Typhoons, with the worst this year, Ketsana (Ondoy) and Parma (Pepeng) causing havoc in the Northern part of the country. Although both, Bohol or Bantayan could be your very own paradise-beach islands, they are quite different from each other. Let’s check how they compare to the traveler in search for his very own beach paradise island: — Bohol Starting with Bohol, the bigger of the two, it becomes clear that this is an island of plenty. There are countless beaches, hills and other natural tourists sights, the most well-known probably the Chocolate Hills. The most prominent beaches and resorts can be found on Panglao island, which is connected via 2 bridges with Bohol, the most famous beach is called Alona Beach; a l...

Adam in Paradise and Calling a Spade by its Correct Name
2009-08-15 06:54:00
A name is important indeed. For better or worse, we identify with the name we are given by our parents. Few of us actually legally change it; it?s something that we have grown accustomed to, that has become a stable core of who we are, despite the fact that we personally and physically keep changing; sometimes we may even become a completely different person yet our name always remains the same. That?s why when parents name their children it is a difficult matter. The poor child is going to be stuck with it for the rest of his or her life. It is a great responsibility. People may later make fun of him or her.The same responsibility must have weighed heavily on Adam?s shoulders when God assigned him the task of naming all those creatures in front of him. By giving them names he also might have felt a sense of control, a kind of life-giving. As an author we feel proud to have created an interesting character with an interesting name; as a parent, others may compliment us on the choice ...
