Oz parliament enjoys multiple orgasms
2008-06-05 00:16:00
An Oz Liberal backbencher secured his place in Austrlian parliamentary history by suffering multiple, genetically-modified orgasms while addressing the house yesterday, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. Victorian MP Jason Wood got into trouble while discussing “genetically modified organisms”. He wowed the mercifully sparse late-evening attendance thus: “I support the member for McMillan’s call for the government to conduct an independent broad-ranging scientific investigation into the genetic modification of food and biotechnology to assess not only the health of the crops and the food, but also the potential for contamination, the commercial implications for Australian primary industry, and the benefits and risks associated with genetically modified orgasms, orgasms.”

Gordon Brown's pork pies to parliament exposed.
2008-06-04 19:29:00
Since Gordon Brown came to power he has consistently dodged questions put to him in PMQs by spewing out an endless stream of Tractor production figures. The thing is, we all know that a vast majority of them are total and utter bullsh*t. Cameron was recently asked why he allows Brown get away with it. Well it looks like David has taken that to heart and will now expose Brown's dodgy figures. From the Conservative party website (If it's in red it's me):Mr. Brown's claim that the majority of drivers will benefit from changes to the road tax has been exposed as an error (polite parliamentary way of saying he's a lying git).Brown's claim, made in Prime Minister's Questions, contradicts previous Government statements:- In Alistair Darling's Budget Red Book, it was stated: "As a result of these reforms, the majority of motorists will be better or no worse off in 2009."- Treasury figures from April indicate that 81% of cars will be worse off (shocker!)after the changes to Vehicle Ex...

Gordon Brown Defies Parliament On Terrorist Detention
2008-06-03 09:00:00
Prime Minister Gordon Brown was insistent that police should have the right to detain suspected terrorists for up to 42 days without any charges being presented against them. He is facing a probable defeat in parliament on the issue, but is determined to stick to his guns on what he believes is essential to deal with terrorist activities. “The complexity and sophistication of investigatons that now have to be conducted by the police, compared and contrasted with what was happening 10 years ago, make it inevitable that the police will need more time to conduct their investigations.” Brown is confronting a rebellion by members of his party who are prepared to vote against the government. “I have tried to build consensus around our proposals but I am determined that we stick to our principles and that is that up to 42-day detentiion is and will be necessary in the future, but Parliament will make the final decision on the individual incident itself.” Gordon Brow...

Rally on Parliament Hill for Net Neutrality
2008-05-22 13:48:00
Canadians outraged by the slow strangling of the internet are invited to share their outrage with the Parliament of Canada on May 27th. The Net Neutrality Rally will demand legislation to protect the internet from predatory practices like traffic shaping and data management, and to encourage transparency among ISP companies. Transportation assistance is available -- check out the Net Neutrality Rally webite for more details. This is an important first step in the battle to save the internet -- a strong showing at this rally could be the beginning of legislative protection for net neutrality in Canada. You can also check out savethenet.ca for more info on the movement to protect net neutrality in Canada. Indonesian parliament to pass military tribunal law
2008-05-21 08:37:00
The Indonesian House of Representatives is poised to pass an amended law on military tribunals that would allow civilian courts to try soldiers involved in non-military offenses, local press said Wednesday. The planned passage of the much-awaited law has been lauded by experts and human rights activists who say the bill is essential in curbing impunity and ensuring transparency within the Indonesian Military (TNI). All factions in the House and the TNI had agreed to try servicemen facing criminal charges in civilian courts instead of military ones, reported English daily The Jakarta Post. "We will pass the amended bill into law during this sitting session, probably in June or July," chairman of the House's working committee on the law, Andreas Pareira, was quoted as saying.Indonesia News Blog: http://indosnesos.blogspot.com-

Support for biofuel subsidies collapsing in Canadian parliament
2008-05-03 15:40:00
The single most expensive environmental initiative put forward by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper (Conservative) was a biofuels initiative that is now seeing significant new opposition. The CDN$2.2 billion (about a $1 trillion at current exchange rates) was intended to provide incentives for biofuel development north of the border. However, recent spikes in food prices and criticism of using food crops to make transportation fuel has caused some who previously supported the plan to switch sides.Opposition International Development critic (Liberal) Keith Martin went as far as calling for a moratorium on biofuel subsidies until the problems are better understood. NDP members of parliament also opposed the plan while the Bloc Quebecouis officially supports it. However, Bloc environment critic Bernard Bigras is opposed to the use of corn ethanol. Conservative Environment Minister John Baird is arguing in favor of the legislation and says that $500 million of the total is set asid...

French GMO bill passes lower house of parliament - Toughens penalties for d
2008-04-16 10:31:00
The lower house of the French parliament approved a new law on genetically modified crops on Wednesday after fierce opposition criticism and internal wrangling in the ranks of the centre-right government. After a vote of 249 in favour of and 228 against the proposed law, intended to bring French legislation into line with European Union directives, the bill will now go to the Senate for a second reading on April 16. The law is aimed at fixing the conditions under which genetically modified (GMO) crops may be cultivated in France, where many regard them with deep suspicion. Europe has demanded that member states formulate domestic laws on GMO use since 2001 but France has dragged its feet over an issue that is fiercely disputed by supporters including the main farmers union and environmentalist opponents. The bill that passed the lower house would toughen penalties for deliberately damaging GMO crops, a favourite tactic of protestors such as veteran environmentalist Jose B...

Parliament cops a taste of dope
2008-04-12 17:03:00
The 50-strong group started drifting into Parliament Grounds from 3pm yesterday and lit up their joints for one smoky hour from 4.20pm, watched by police and parliamentary security.Among them was National Organisation for the Reform of Marijuana Laws spokesman Danyl Strype, who said: "The police and the security people have been very approachable. We are being allowed to smoke, I guess, because of the political nature of our action."see STUFFThe Dominion reports' heading is in my honest opinion deliberately perjorative. This term of parliament prohibits any political discussion surrounding cannabis. We know where the dopes can be found. Dopey Editors who dumb the argument down by failing to link crime, security and community well being as noble goals of the cannabis law reform movement. Indonesia's Parliament Approves Boediono as Central Bank Chief
2008-04-07 13:17:00
Indonesia's parliament approved top economic minister Boediono as the nation's 13th central bank chief, as Southeast Asia's largest economy grapples with accelerating inflation and slowing growth.Boediono, 65, will succeed Burhanuddin Abdullah, whose five-year term expires on May 17. Boediono, the coordinating minister for the economy, was endorsed as the next governor in a vote by legislators, lawmaker Tjahyo Kumolo told reporters in Jakarta today.Boediono, who earned his doctorate in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979, will have to balance the risk of slowing growth with inflation at an 18-month high. As finance minister for three years to 2004, Boediono helped ease inflation by reducing money supply and the budget deficit. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is betting Boediono can slow price gains before general elections next year.``You can't pressure him to cut rates for the sake of growth,'' said Fauzi Ichsan, chief economist at Standard Chartered Plc ...

After a long commercial break, they just came in with "Uh-good evening!..Uh-Do not attempt to adjust your radio, there is nothing wrong!...."And from the opening track.."P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up!)to the closing track.."Night Of The Thumpasaurus Peoples",it seemed as though our local radio station had been indeed taken over by funky freaked-out,hip, witty & urbane spaced-out extra-terrestrialpimps of the new groove known as "P-Funk" Simply put, if you like funk and want to see the true roots of West Coast hip-hop it doesn't get any better than Parliament.
