A Little of My Past at the Paris Opera Ballet School
2009-11-15 23:13:00 Excerpt from the documentary, Etoiles, about the Paris Opera Ballet School. Notice me around 5:30, 6:18, and 6:53!So for my last blog I wanted to let everyone know about the ballet classes I teach throughout the city, but I, too, had to start somewhere. I grew up in France and didn't have what would be considered, I suppose, the average childhood. I started dancing when I was 3 after my mom decided she could keep both me and my sister occupied in dance classes. My official step toward my professional path, though, started when I entered the Paris Opera Ballet School in 1991 when I was 11. With this decision I chose to make a long term sacrifice, chose to...
Kane, Huet lead Hawks past Maple Leafs
2009-11-14 06:49:00 Forty minutes of solid hockey was enough for the Chicago Blackhawks to outlast the rebuilt Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 Friday night before another sell-out United Center crowd and extend their victory streak at home to six games. The matchup between the two Original Six franchises was undecided until the final horn, but the Hawks thoroughly dominated the outclassed Leafs for the first two periods. If not for the outstanding effort by beleagured Leafs' goaltender Vesa Toskala, this one would have been over early. More focused on physical extracurriculars, the Maple Leafs were no match for the higher skilled Hawks. To the credit of Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville, his team refused to fall bait to the Leafs'...
Findley's Late Goal puts RSL past Columbus
2009-11-01 03:23:00 Real Salt Lake got a late goal from striker Robbie Findley to defeat Columbus 1-0 in the opening game of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series Saturday night. The match looked to be headed to a scoreless draw, but that all changed in the 88th minute when Findley slotted home a Yura Movsisyan cross to give RSL the win. Salt Lake's victory puts all the pressure on the 1st seeded Crew, who need a win in Thursday night's Game 2 -- which will be played at Columbus -- to have a chance at advancing to the Eastern Conference final against either the Fire or New England....

reliving the past
2009-10-18 20:57:00 Sun 18: The long haul to the West Country on Friday got off to a lousy start with a four car pile up at the Tangmere roundabout. I then got absolutely awful cramps in first my left foot and then the right one, meaning I had to keep stopping so I didn’t crash the car. Putting the heater on, arrow down, did the trick but it meant driving with the window open so I didn’t fall asleep and also crash the car. Mark you, driving past Aylesbeare definitely woke up the olfactories! Silage is never going to please my nose but this bit smelt like a particularly vile nappy. Got to BC desperate for a cup of coffee but got some grumping which thankfully did not last that long but was not the start I would have liked. Lack of adequate communication meant I did not realise the skip was now on, as was a potential buyer. However, both were welcome though it meant any clearing had to wait till the potential buyers had gone. Sorting family items means keeping emotions on hold otherwise nothing woul...
Nobel Peace Prize To Obama. India?s Past Candidate Sathya Sai Baba Long-for
2009-10-09 23:38:00 The Nobel Institute has just awarded US President Barach Obama the Nobel Peace Prize. News of the Obama receipt of the Prize stirs memories of those involved in submissions contra Sathya Sai Baba to the Nobel Institute a decade ago. They cannot but be reminded of the resounding failure of Sathya Sai Baba-disposed forces within the Indian government to nominate the guru for this same prize. Well-remembered is all the excitement generated among devotees when news that his name was being put forward was announced in Sai Centers around the world. The strange notion of quite how tasteful it was that 'God' should receive such an earth-bound award was remote from their consideration. He and his officials badly misrepresented the status of Dr Michael Nobel, a major player in WorldSpace International Satellite Radio Service, which broadcasts Sathya Sai Baba propaganda to many countries in the world.
Chicago Public high school fight brings back memories of past rival high sc
2009-10-06 17:46:00 As much as I wish Chicago Tribune reporters Azam Ahmed, Kristen Mack and Annie Sweeney didn't have to report on stories like "Fenger kids tell why they fight" and that the Derrion Albert murder hadn't occurred altogether, I think it's a step in the right direction to let these kids speak up. This article gave these kids the opportunity to tell their side instead of the police brushing it off as "gang related." Fenger student Vashion Bullock's question, "How many times you want me to walk away? We've been running for so long and we're tired of running" struck a chord. But it was one sentence on the second page that really brought back my own high school memories:...

Do Democrats Ever Learn from the Past?
2009-09-23 02:40:00 The unhappy Barney Frank is at it again. Like many Democrats, this mean-spirited man from Massachusetts, has such faith in the power of government to right all wrongs that his House Financial Services Committee is moving forward on legislation to expand the reach of the Community Reinvestment Act. Yup, you read that right. So, what ...

Where Was Nancy Pelosi These Past Eight Years?
2009-09-18 03:00:00 So, now, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi laments the coarsening of our political discourse. Guess she wasn’t listening when her fellow House Democrats booed President George W. Phoenix Rental Prices Dropped 15% In The Past Year
2009-09-09 09:01:00 Rental prices are low in the Phoenix area- and are headed lower: Rent prices are likely to fall significantly in the coming months as a growing number of commercial real-estate investors buy up struggling apartment communities, according to some local real-estate analysts. The same phenomenon that has driven down home-sale prices appears to be occurring in the apartment market, they said, with cash buyers lowering prices as much as is necessary to attract paying customers. As a result, average rent prices have dropped an estimated 15 percent or more in the past year, and they could fall another 15 percent in the coming year, one local analyst said. Because cash investors don’t have a loan to repay, there really is no bottom line at which to hold their rent prices, said Jim Kasten, a Phoenix real-estate analyst and investor. The problem for apartment owners who do have mortgages is that they’ll have to lower their rent prices, too, if they hope to remain competitive,...

?Free Memory? Function Might Be A Thing Of The Past!
2009-08-31 18:48:00 The “Free Memory” function has become present in numerous apps both in the App Store and Cydia, but that will soon change. Apple has decided to put their foot down on the subject and demand all developers who currently use this function to remove it asap. Apple has banned any app on the App Store from being able to run in the background, for obvious memory hogging reasons. However Apple allows many of their stock applications, such as Mail, Safari, and iPod, to continue to run in the background making your iPhone signifigantly more difficult to use. This…

Hinrich, 10th best defender in the past decade
2009-08-28 22:13:00 According to Kelly Dwyer, Yahoo sports:Hinrich fell off noticeably in 2007-08, though he did bounce back by a goodly sum last season. It does little to jettison him from this list, as the Bulls combo guard moves his feet quite well and uses a lanky-ish frame (for someone his size) to pester all manner of point and shooting guards, alongside the occasional small forward. Not the flashiest guy, he won't be stripping you at the top of the key, but he will force you into giving up the ball or giving into a low-possession shot....

A history of past Blackhawks players' off-ice troubles

Flaherty, a compensation pick in the 2008 MLB draft, is taking a little bit longer to find his swing at the professional level. Cubs top prospect Josh Vitters continues his strong play, going 1-for-5 with a run. Vitters is hitting .318 with 13 home runs and a .356 on-base percentage. Vitters has walked 7 times to just 36 strike outs, and...
