Patel replaced fast bowler Rudra Pratap Singh who went wicketless in the second Test. Singh had also failed to bag any wickets in the drawn first Test in Chennai. The 19-year-old Sharma has been out of action since returning from an impressive tour of Australia, due to injuries to his foot and finger, and missed the first two Tests against South Africa, while Munaf last played a Test in December. The visitors went 1-0 up in the three-Test series on Saturday after winning the second game in Ahmedabad by an innings and 90 runs inside three days.
