Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration has decided to shift the operation of all incoming and outgoing bus service towards Shimla, Nahan and Patiala side from ISBT-17 to ISBT 43. This would be effective from May 1. Notification in this regard was issued today.

Patiala court gives life imprisonment to IC-814 hijacking convicts

A special court in Patiala on Tuesday sentenced all three accused in the IC-814 hijacking case of 1999 to life imprisonment.   Abdul Latif, Yusuf Nepali and Dilip Kumar Bhujel have been charged under anti hijacking law and also for attempt to murder, conspiracy and abduction.   The three were arrested on charges of conspiracy to hijack the Indian Airlines flight from Kathmandu to New Delhi on December 24, 1999.   They have been charged for helping the hijackers in procuring fake passports and to take weapons onboard. They have been lodged in the Patiala jail since 1999.   Over 120 witnesses have been examined in the case.   The week-long hijack drama ended with the release of three dreaded terrorists, including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) chief Maulana Masood Azhar, Ahmed Zargar and Sheikh Ahmed Omar Sayeed in exchange for 189 people on board the Indian Airlines flight.   The hijackers killed Rupen Katyal, 25, and had stabbed Satnam Singh several times but...

A special court here today will pronounce its verdict in connection with the Indian Airlines plane IC-814 hijacking case.   On January 29, the court had deferred its verdict for today against the three accused -- Abdul Latif, Dalip Kumar and Yusuf Nepali.   The three were arrested on charges of conspiracy to hijack the Indian Airlines flight from Kathmandu to New Delhi on December 24, 1999.   They have been charged for helping the hijackers in procuring fake passports and to take weapons onboard. Cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has sent to Patiala jail. He was the former BJP MP.Last month, Sidhu was given a three-year jail sentence by the Punjab and Haryana High court after he was convicted in a Patiala road rage case in 1988, in which a person had died.He has surrendered in keeping with a legal provision by which an appelant has to surrender in the original court's jurisdiction before the Supreme Court can take up his appeal.
