Why Women Can't..
2011-07-12 00:21:00 ?I?m sick of it. I?m sick of writing about equality for Christian women in our churches and homes,? I emailed a woman equality blogger. But as long as pastors and bloggers and ?Bible scholars? tell the world that women just don?t measure up, I will keep on.Above is a quote from Shirley Taylor, and she can quoted a pastor?s reasons why women would not be good in certain positions compared to men. I searched for the article, and I believe I found the one in question. It was titled, Why women can not be head pastors. I had to admit I?m getting rather used to silly examples that are said to used to make points that are somehow suppose to make sense to the general public. To quote one of his comments to his ?ahem? points that made me giggle, and also has a sting of truth to it? ?I feel like a mosquito in a nudist colony; I don?t know where to begin!?To me? That said it all! I seriously don?t think people that come from this point of view truly realize how compl...
Patriarchy is the ultimate cause of all abuse against women?
2011-06-22 13:00:00 Pastor Versus Feminist Patriarchy is the ultimate cause of all abuse against women. This one small sentence sure does pack a punch doesn?t it? Do I buy that 100%? No. I do think at times patriarchy can be a contributing factor to abuse towards? WELL anyone! I have family, and I have known families that tend to live by the ?father rule?. If the sentence, ?patriarchy is the ultimate cause of all abuse against women? you would see it in every instance of patriarchy. You don?t find that to be the case, because not all people view patriarchy as authority and power based. I?m talking a heart and attitude issue here more than anything. My uncle for example would NEVER use the trump card, ?I have the last word? type of thing. He respected and loved his wife to much to even condone such a stand. I realize some people would think their decision making within their household would come to standstill. Guess what? It didn?t. Matter of f...
The Spin Zone of Patriarchy
2011-01-12 01:44:00 I have spoken before about how I have noticed that certain segments of the faith community have labeled anything that has to do with equality as feminism. It is strange to me how people in certain circles claim that equality has to do with 'sameness'. When they say this I think of Mathematics myself. Lets look at an equation made up of different parts, and yet are equal. (3+1)=(2+2) You notice both sides of the equal side add up the number 4. Does that mean that 1,2 and 3 are the same? No, yet the equation above is equal. Does that mean 2+2 is trying to be 3+1? No, yet they are equal. Its funny how people can point out the differences between the equations, and realize that both equal 4. They both equal the same number, and yet both sides represent different numbers adding up to 4. When we were all young in our Math classes in school we learned to recognize the fact these types of equations are different but are equal. It...
Patriarchy Leaves the Broken Behind
2008-12-15 21:51:00 The bible speaks alot about the oppressed and broken people of this world. God's word tells us to help the oppressed, neglected and abused.I was reading today about some ladies mentioning Michael and Debi Pearl, and I'm sure they have some awesome things to say on certain subjects but on abuse within the home they are clearly naive. On the brew*crew the poster wrote about how this legalistic way of thinking can do more harm than GOOD! Domestic Violence within a Christian marriage is possible, and it does happen ALOT with a good article noted by The Dorcas network! There are days in which I have energy to take on those that mention its a rare thing, because if you look at the numbers it happens just as much as it does in the within the protective bubble within the church. At times I get this impression that people are using the shelter of the church so they don't have to deal with life's uglies. I don't think that is what God had in mind when he spoke of separate. I realize some ...
Do We Live In a Patriarchy?
2008-08-08 08:13:00 In the comments section, two of my favorite bloggers, k&y of to the ambient void suggest that we live in a patriarchy today. I think that these two guys are both gay, but that's fine with me, in fact, I think it's great! I decided to call Sexmaniacman over to ask him what he thought of the notion that we live in a patriarchy today. Here's what he wrote: It's easy for gay men to side with women in the War Between the Sexes because they're not trying to fuck women, so they don't have to put up with women's bullshit that is inevitable in those of us who do.They're trying to fuck guys in a gay culture that seems a Hell of a lot more sex-friendly and sex-positive than this chilly het culture with these censorious female and mostly feminist Comstocks wanting to beat us with rods every time we get a hardon.Like to look at porn? You're a woman-hater. Can't get laid, poor guy? Haha, say the feminists, you loser. Now, me, a masculinist, I side with the guy. The guy's not gettin...

Bhutto: A Symbol of Female Empowerment
2007-12-27 21:59:00 I was on a long-distance phone call when I heard. I forgot about the call, my hands released the handset which fell helplessly to the floor with a thud, while I exclaimed, “WHAT? SHE’S DEAD?” Several emotions ran through me. I felt like I had lost a child I had known. I was in utter ...

Adam Bleeds, Too
2007-12-14 20:42:00 I will always remember the day I discovered men are vulnerable to rape. Prior to this enlightenment, I had believed that women were the only victims of rape and that only men were to blame. I always thought that it was only Eve who had bled enough, that she was the only victim of these ...

Being a Muslim Woman Today
2007-11-24 02:54:00 I previously wrote a post about my feelings on Yahoo! Avatars not including a basic scarf for Muslim women to cover their animated self, thus marginalising and forcing them to look like a (cute) munchkin from the film, The Wizard of Oz, (if they were desperate like me) by going to an alternative Avatar website, ...

Oppressed in Her Own Home
2007-11-10 02:23:00 Hannah came to me one evening, her eyes blood-red, her cheeks wet. What was the matter? I asked her; it was past six and she had a long way to commute home from the library. “It’s my dad,” she slumped on the chair beside me, putting her hands on her lovely, olive-tanned face. I looked ...

The Man Behind the Iron Mask
2007-11-09 00:13:00 I’m terrified if he finds me. I’m scared of what he will do. And he is out there posing a threat to other women like me. He roams freely, the law on his side because there wasn’t enough evidence of his abuse towards me. And now he is angry that I went to the police, he ...

Guilty for Being a Woman
2007-10-27 01:35:00 According to many patriarchal men who ignore the strong evidence of the Prophet’s teachings and the Qur’an, I am a Woman destined to Hell. I am guilty for being a woman. And so are you, if you happen to be a woman too. If you’re a man, then Whoopee to you! You’ve just been granted ...

Tonight a man spoke about something which made most men and women in the mosque feel ...

Straight men and Patriarchy
2007-09-10 17:17:00 I totally agree with William Leap. This is very good and makes total sense to me as I have worked with these men professionally for 23 years. I would meet these men as a single gay man during sexual hookups. Gay men cannot deny men like Craig who are straight but act gay exist as they have all been with one at one time or another. For men, 'straight' label is inflexibleBY J. PEDER ZANE, The News & ObserverConsider this: Almost half of all men who have sex with other men in public bathrooms consider themselves straight, according to William Leap, a professor of anthropology at American University, who has studied this behavior since the early 1990s. "They insist, 'I'm not gay, I'm not homosexual, I'm straight,' " Leap told me. "The general description for these guys is they are married and they often talk about these encounters as recreational -- fun, excitement, a break from the long workday." One man told Leap that the encounters offered "dangerous excitement" in contrast to ...

My Future Husband

Bullies Defending the Patriarchy.
2007-04-07 23:30:00 Charliegrrl has been getting a lot of abuse online after voicing her opposition to a workshop at the upcoming Ladyfest Leeds, which is to be based around criticising the recent legislation to criminalise the possession of extreme violent porn, and considering if this contributes towards women’s liberation or women’s repression..?A thread at a pro-BDSM forum has been set up to 'encourage' people to respond to Charliegrrl's views and actions, and I read most of the posts on this thread. It's nothing new, it's nothing we haven't heard a million times before, and it made my eyes glaze over.I *know* the pro-BDSM arguments and they are very loaded, and are packaged in a way to make it look really bad to oppose them. If you oppose them you are censoring people, or oppressing valid alternative sexualities, or anti-sex (that good old!), or anti-free will! There is also lots of talk about allowing women to choose to work in the empowering sex industry. This informed consent message b... |
