Today is Super Bowl Day, or as they say on Twitter “Happy Super Bowl Day.” It’s a day to reveal who we think will win the biggest single-day sports event in the World. Patriots Release Underwood on Eve of Super Bowl
2012-02-05 02:32:00
The New England Patriots made a roster move on Saturday, just 24 hours before Super Bowl XLVI against the New York Giants. In what to some seems like a shocking move, the Patriots cut WR Tiquan Underwood and signed DE Alex Silvestro from the practice squad.  The move was not disciplinary in nature and was made to give New England depth on the defensive line as the game goes deeper. Look at the move this way, by cutting Underwood now, he was able to spend the entire week in Indianapolis with his teammates and family.  He got to be involved in all the team and league activities, he is in the team picture and should New England win on Sunday, he will surely be awarded a ring for his contributions this season. While to many it seems like a cold and heartless move by Bill Belichick, it really should be looked at as a reward by doing it now.  Belichick could have cut him a week ago and left him in Foxboro but he came along was part of the team.  Tomorrow will be no dif...

2012-01-31 16:17:00
Super Bowl XLVI pits the New York Giants against the New England Patriots, arguably the most intriguing and fortuitous pairing for the National Football League’s annual championship contest this year. This year’s game is the highly anticipated rematch of the very recent Super Bowl XLII, where the 13 1/2  point underdog Giants upset the then 15-0 undefeated Patriots in drama-tic fashion. The Patriots also seek to avenge a... Read more »

One dropped touchdown pass followed by one missed 32 yard field goal and two fumbles on punt returns?this could be an entirely different Super Bowl.  That?s all irrelevant now as we have a re-match from the 2008 Super Bowl in which the unbeaten Patriots were chasing perfection but despite being a 12 point underdog the (Read More...)

THE SOCIAL BOWL
2012-01-24 18:00:00
The social media experts over at Soshable are expecting tons of Twitter and Facebook use during the upcoming Super Bowl XLVI. So much that they actually wrote up a piece about how connection providers like Verizon are lacing Lucas Oil Field with an extra-heavy arsenal to support 3G, 4G, and WiFi. And then there's all the social media blasts and analytics that are going to be handled by digital marketing companies like Raidious--a great case study on what will most certainly be one of the most data-heavy events of the year. Hence the name, The Social Bowl.

Stick a Wilfork in Them; Ravens Miss Wide Left; Patriots Go to Indy
2012-01-23 04:04:00
Do not ask me how I remained so calm in a room full of people screaming their heads off at the television.  Maybe it was my fire service training that helped me stay calm, maybe it was the fact that I?ve seen this same show so many times in the last decade I could have predicted the final act.  In my head I was screaming ?SHANK IT!!!?, on the outside there were no signs. I was the first one though in that room full of people to scream out ?WIDE LEFT, HE MISSED IT!!!? Thank you Billy Cundiff, for you are now my ?Shankapotamus?. What a game it was tight the entire time, it was one of the best games I?ve seen in a while and did you notice the officials only threw flags when they had to?  Offsides, illegal motion, etc and other than that they let them play. Thank you Vince Wilfork, you are a beast amongst boys.  With all due respect to the late Clarence Clemons, Wilfork is ?The Big Man?.  One handed he sacked Joe Flacco.  One handed he brought down Ricky Wi...

This Week The New England Patriots host Baltimore Ravens at Gillette Stadium on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the AFC Conference Championship Game. The Patriots (14-3) are 8-1 at The Razor, 0-1 against the AFC North and 11-2 in the conference.  They are the AFC East Champions and the conferences top seed. The Ravens (13-4) are 4-4 on the road, 1-0 vs. the AFC East and 10-3 against the conference.  They are the AFC North Champions and the conferences 2nd seed. Alberto Riveron is the game referee; this is the 2nd Patriots game he has called this season.  He also called Week 16 vs. Miami. The Line/Prediction As of Thursday the line on the game from Yahoo! Sports has the Patriots at MINUS 7 1/2.  The OVER/UNDER is 50 1/2. My Prediction is Patriots 31, Ravens, 21.  Give the points (Patriots) and take the over.  I am 10-6-1 against the spread and 13 of 17 on calling the over/under in 2011. Baltimore Ravens to Face Patriots in AFC Championship Game

The Ravens successfully jumped all the hurdles to reach the AFC championship game by beating the Houston Texans in the divisional playoff game on Sunday. Brady Sets Records, Patriots Blow Out Broncos 45-10
2012-01-15 05:59:00
The Denver Broncos came into Foxboro with hopes of upsetting the New England Patriots and once again send the Patriots home earlier than expected in the post season.  But with all the hype about Broncos QB Tim Tebow the sporting world seemed to forget about a man named Tom Brady. I?ve said it before and I?ll say it again.  Brady plays best when he is pissed off.  He needs a chip on shoulder it pushes him.  If there isn?t one he will make one up. This time the chip was disrespect, I am willing to bet Brady has felt disrespected with all the attention given to Tebow when Brady is a three time champion, a two time most valuable player and a sure fire Hall of Famer. I think it?s safe to say no one will ever forget about Brady again.  He just absolutely annihilated the Broncos from start to finish, he was 26 of 34 for 363 yards with 6 TD passes and 1 INT.  He set one NFL record, tied another and he and the team broke several other team marks in this one side...

Breaking News: McDaniels to Rejoin Patriots Coaching Staff Immediately
2012-01-07 17:46:00
The New England Patriots will hire former Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels as an offensive assistant this weekend and he will join the coaching staff immediately and help with the offense in the playoffs. McDaniels, who was the St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator this past season, was allowed out of his contract with the NFL club without compensation. He returns to Foxboro after leaving three seasons ago to become head coach in Denver where he was fired after one and half seasons.  McDaniels was formerly the Patriots offensive coordinator when they put up NFL record numbers in 2007. It is expected he will regain the offensive coordinator position for the 2012 season replacing current OC Bill O?Brien who is leaving to take the head coaching job at Penn State University. McDaniels, 35, started in New England a decade ago as a personnel assistant, in 2002 he was a defensive coaching assistant before becoming the quarterbacks coach in 2004.  In 2006 he added offensive...

Eight Patriots Named To 2012 Pro Bowl
2011-12-28 02:11:00
The 2012 Pro Bowl rosters came out on Tuesday night and the New England Patriots had eight players named to the team, seven of them as starters. The eight players (seven starters) were the most in the AFC. The offensive players named to the 2012 Pro Bowl were QB Tom Brady, TE Rob Gronkowski, G Logan Mankins, G Brian Waters and WR Wes Welker. The defensive players were DT Vince Wilfork and DE Andre Carter. Matthew Slater was named as a special teams player. All but Slater were named starters. Carter will be unable to participate in the game because he was placed on injured reserve. The 2012 NFL Pro Bowl will take place on January 29, 2012 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, HI and will be nationally televised on NBC. It is taking place a week before Super Bowl XLVI. So while we are happy that eight Patriots made the Pro Bowl, we hope they are preparing for the Super Bowl that week and not playing in the Pro Bowl. Follow Ian on Twitter @soxanddawgs. Patriots 2nd Half Comeback Keys Win Over Dolphins, 27-24
2011-12-25 03:28:00
The first half was ugly. It was ugly offensively.  It was ugly defensively.  It was ugly on special teams and coaching. It was so ugly this is all I will say about it. The second half though was entirely different story as the New England Patriots rallied from 17 points down to defeat the pesky Miami Dolphins 27-24 Saturday afternoon at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro MA. Some Patriots players had second half stats that would equal a good full game for most players in the NFL.  I just hope heading into the playoffs this team doesn?t think they can turn it on when they need to.  With a defense as bad as the one patrolling ?The Razor? these days it?s the last thing they need. They are built to build a lead and hope the prayers of Patriots fan everywhere pull them through to the victory. The 17-point comeback is so unique in Patriots history in the Belichick/Brady era it was the first time all season they were behind by 17 points.  They hadn?t been behind by 17 poi...

In The Red Zone: Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots Preview - Week 16
2011-12-23 12:00:00
This Week The New England Patriots host their AFC East Rival Miami Dolphins at Gillette Stadium on Sunday at 4:15 p.m. The Patriots (11-3) are 5-1 at The Razor, 3-1 against the AFC East and 8-2 in the conference.  The Dolphins (5-9) are 2-5 on the road, 2-2 vs. the AFC East and 4-6 against the conference. The Line/Prediction As of Thursday the line on the game from Yahoo! Sports have the Patriots at MINUS 10.  The over under is 48. My Prediction is Patriots 35, Dolphins, 27.  Take the points (Dolphins) and take the over.  I am 8-5-1 against the spread and 10 of 14 on calling the over/under in 2011. Tickets The Patriots are reporting the game as a sell out. It is the 190th consecutive sell out  dating back to the 1994 season opener.  The record includes preseason, regular season and playoff games. Hernandez Was A Grand Gator As Patriots Cruise To AFC East Title
2011-12-19 04:05:00
One former University of Florida Gator got all the pregame pub this week, that was of course, Denver QB Tim Tebow.  But it was another former Florida Gator, a former Tebow target in fact, New England TE Aaron Hernandez who stole the show Sunday at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver CO. Hernandez led the Patriots to a 41-23 win over the Broncos and helped New England clinch it?s third consecutive AFC East Title and 9th in the last 11 seasons with a 9 catches for 129 yards and 1 TD performance. While the Denver defense was looking to take away Hernandez? counterpart, TE Rob Gronkowski they, they left the Connecticut native wide open to steal the game for New England. It didn?t start out so good though as Tebow and the Broncos offense absolutely shredded the Patriots porous defense.   In the 20 minutes they racked up 133 yards on the ground alone plus another 68 yards by Tebow through the air as Denver jumped out to a 16-7 lead early in the 2nd quarter.  ...

Jerod Mayo Signs Contract Extension With Patriots
2011-12-18 04:35:00
The New England Patriots have signed All-Pro LB Jerod Mayo to 5-year contract extension. The terms of the deal have not been announced. Mayo, drafted 10th overall in the 2008 NFL Draft out of Tennessee, is in the fourth year of his rookie contract.  In addition to being one of the Patriots captains since his second season, he is responsible for calling the defensive signals. Mayo has proven to a versatile player in his four seasons in Foxboro having been an inside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme he is now the weak side linebacker in the 4-3 front. Mayo joins fellow co-captain DT Vince Wilfork as defensive leaders the team has locked up for the next several seasons. Follow Steve on Twitter @djstevem Photo credit: Getty Images

Patriots Nearly Give One Away, Hold On For 31-24 Win
2011-12-05 03:06:00
I usually say the end result doesn?t matter but I, along with many Patriots fans, players and staff aren?t happy with how the game unfolded Sunday at Gillette Stadium.  The New England Patriots, the far superior team in this matchup, had a large fourth quarter lead of 31-3 over the winless Indianapolis Colts and nearly let it slip away as they held on for a 31-24 win. The game didn?t start good and it didn?t end any better.  And judging by the comments made by Bill Belichick in the post game and some of the players, there isn?t much to be happy about. Former UConn QB Dan Orlovsky started a bit unsure of himself in his first start of the season but as the game went on he gained his confidence.  By the fourth quarter he was playing well and put up some ridiculous numbers going 18 for 20 for 240 yards 2 TD?s and 1 INT in just the final 15 minutes.  In the quarter the Colts also went 4 for 4 on 3rd down conversions (10 of 15 overall).  Overall Orlovsky finished ...
