Paul Pierce puts up Epic Game, I may not make it through all this
2008-06-10 00:00:00 Paul Pierce's game last night will forever live in Celtic lore. (AP Photo) I think game 1 of the Finals last night made a few things clear to me, and it was clear rather early on, watching the Celtics and...

Celtics-Lakers, Game One: The Day Paul Pierce Became a Celtic
2008-06-07 04:08:00 Paul Pierce had a terrible first half in his first ever NBA Finals. After ending the half on the bench with an equal number of points and fouls (three), Pierce was just itching to get back out on the floor to help his team erase a five point half time deficit. For all the talk about Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, this is still Paul Pierce?s team. He?s still the captain. He?s still the go-to guy. He?s still the heart and soul of the team. He?s the most capable of taking over a game and erupting with a ridiculous outburst of points. With all due respect to everyone else on the team, he?s the only real Celtic on the team. Kevin Garnett is a great player, but he?s still in his first season in Boston. Ray Allen might have gone to U-Conn, but living in the area doesn't make you a Boston Celtic. Paul Pierce is a Celtic. He was drafted by Rick Pitino. He suffered through terrible ownership, awful coaching, extremely questionable trades, weak supporting casts, and impatient Celtic fa...

Paul Pierce Injury
2008-06-06 21:11:00 Paul Pierce, nicknamed The Truth, is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the NBA. He earned All-America First Team honors in his junior year at Kansas, and has been a starter every season since being selected by the Celtics with the 10th overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft. He is ...

NBA Championship: Celtics-Lakers Preview?A Lot Can Happen in a Year
2008-06-05 05:29:00 I remember vividly being in a bar in New Jersey, just over a year ago. The Red Sox were playing the Yankees, I was in an argument with one of the many Yankee fans at the bar over which team had a better pitching staff, and one of the TVs on the far side of the bar had the NBA draft coverage. I tried not to get my hopes up, but the Celtics had gone through such a bad season. Paul Pierce was hurt, the team suffered through a ridiculous eighteen game losing streak, and the NBA?s stupid policy of not giving the number one pick in the draft to the regular season?s worst team had me extremely worried. I had visions of the number one pick. I had visions of the next Tim Duncan. This time, it was our year. This time, the ping-pong balls would fall the right way. If the NBA was willing to freeze an envelope to ensure the Knicks would get a chance to draft Patrick Ewing, surly they?d do something to ensure one of their marquee franchises got the first or second pick in a top-heavy draft. E...
2008 NBA Finals Preview
2008-06-03 07:35:00 On Thursday night the Lakers and Celtics will face off in a historical rematch of the NBA's two most storied franchises in the 2008 NBA finals. Both teams entered the playoffs as the number one seed in their conference. The Lakers came out of the Western Conference by leaning on Kobe Bryant?s MVP skills and Paul Gasol down low. The Celtics are led by the trio of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. Here comes some position breakdowns and analysis.Homecourt AdvantageBoth teams are good at home but I can't go against the Garden. Their rowdy fans will have the team fired up and ready to win.Advantage: CelticsPoint GuardRajon Rondo vs. Derek FisherObviously Derek Fisher has the clear advantage when it comes to experience, he has won 3 NBA Championships and played in 148 career playoff games and Rajon Rondo has won 0 championships and played in only 20 career playoff games. This is an interesting match up because neither player is one of the best players on their respective teams bu...

Celtics Win Eastern Conference: Bring On The Lakers!
2008-06-02 02:02:00 Before I start, I want to thank the Papa Joe radio show (KLAV, 1230 out of Las Vegas) for having me on today to discuss the ?honorable? Senator from the great state of Comcast, Arlen Specter. It was fun, my first time on a radio show as a guest. Nerve racking, but fun. They should have a link to the show on their site tomorrow. If you get a chance to listen, let me know how I did. 8:39 PM: Rip Hamilton is playing, which is big for Detroit. We?ll see how he does. Hey, the Pistons won the tip for the first time this series. They must be serious. 8:42 PM: Ray Allen missed a three, but at least he shot the ball. First foul of the game?on Rondo. Billups missed?that?s odd. By the way, I?m halfway through my first Sam Adams Boston Ale, and Ray Allen just drained a three!! Good signs everywhere early! 8:44 PM: By the way, I still haven?t accepted Ray Allen back into the Big Three, nor have I fixed my keyboard yet. Two minutes and twenty four seconds of basketball, four calle...
Celtics-Pistons: Celtics Hold On (Barely), Take 3-2 Lead in Series
2008-06-02 02:01:00 I wasn?t going to do a "running diary"-type of deal for tonight?s game. It just kind of happened, starting with the beginning of the second quarter. I love reading, but hate writing these things. The inevitable Bill Simmons-comparisons and the even more inevitable Bill Simmons-wannabe comments are, most of the time, too annoying to deal with. But the spacebar on my keyboard is broken (at this point, I?ve ripped off the spacebar and I?m jamming my finger into a small hole and pushing a little rubber thing to make spaces), and since it would have taken me five hours to write this anyway, I?m going with it. We pick things up four minutes into the second quarter? 9:21 PM EST: I want this on the record: This is the worst officiating I?ve ever seen. Ever. 1) Missed goal-tend to end the first quarter. 2) Clear path foul that wasn?t a clear path. 3) Flagrant foul that wasn?t flagrant. 4) Terrible call on a clean P.J. Brown block. 5) Three second violation on P.J. Brown that...
Boston Celtics Paul Pierce 3 Pointer Foul Was Wrong (video)
2008-05-31 17:24:00 Beating Detrot in Detroit tonight should remove any doubts about this team and their coach, Doc Rivers. There were so many great plays made tonight. The ones that stood out began with Ray Allen still on fire knocking down big time shots. The slump is over for him and after tonight’s celtics game it’s proof ...
SOHH Sports: Aftermath Mondays: LeBron James and Paul Pierce Go Mano Y Mano
2008-05-19 15:11:00 Damn. The show LeBron James and Paul Pierce put on yesterday was unbelievable. I'm talking Mano Y Mano, knockdown dragout fight, ya diiiig!? P2 finishes with 41, King James 45, but in the end the Celtics advance and you can't be surprised. The home team won every game. Peep some of the action here. Pierce and 'Bron are some beasts, boy. Here's what the King told the Associated Press after the loss: "We both tried to will our team to victory and, just like Dominique Wilkins, I ended up on the short end and the Celtics won again. I think the second round of the postseason, Game 7, these fans will finally have an opportunity to forget a little bit about what Larry Bird and Dominique Wilkins did and remember what Paul and LeBron did. This will go down in history." Yea, that's pretty much right on point. Game 7 will go down in history ... without a doubt. That sh*t was crazy between LeBron and Pierce. At one point in the second half, LeBron said he looked over ...
Celtics-Cavs: Paul Pierce Leads Celtics Past LeBron To Eastern Conference F
2008-05-19 04:31:00 Paul Pierce and I have been through a lot over the last few years. As a player, he?s suffered through one of the most inept front offices in professional sports, one of the worst coaches in professional sports (no, not Doc?I?m talking about that fraud Rick Pitino), a few of the worst seasons in Celtics history, a Boston media that loves to criticize everything he does on a basketball court, and a fan base that seemingly blames him for all of the hard times the Celtics have gone through recently. As a fan, I?ve suffered through losing season after losing season?rebuilding project after rebuilding project. But I've always contended that Paul Pierce could be great, he just needed some help. When Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen were acquired last offseason, Paul Pierce became the third wheel of the new Big Three in the minds of the NBA talking heads. Those talking heads couldn?t have been more wrong. Pierce has been the most consistent player on the best team in the Eastern Conference al...
Celtics-Cavaliers: Boston Celtics + Home Court - Sam Cassell = Playoff Vict
2008-05-15 05:21:00 It?s a simple formula. The Celtics + playing in Boston ? Sam Cassell equals a happy Sean Crowe. For the most part.James Posey and Ray Allen trying to throw the game late in the fourth quarter by committing two awful turnovers in their own zone nearly gave me an aneurysm. How do you make that pass, Posey? Ray Allen, at this point in his career, is a liability at times on the floor. Now that he?s apparently tired, he?s a liability more often than not. Apparently, Eddie House slept with Doc Rivers? wife and as payback he?s been benched for the playoffs. How else do you explain him not getting some of Ray Allen?s minutes? Or for that matter, all of Sam Cassell?s minutes?Paul Pierce was exactly what the doctor ordered after his teammates tried to throw the game away. While Garnett was relatively invisible and Ray Allen was busy missing shots and throwing the ball to the other team late in the fourth, Paul Pierce was driving to the basket, drawing fouls, and draining free throws. Fi...
Celtics 76, Cavaliers 72: Garnett Dominates, LeBron Lets One Slip Away in B
2008-05-08 06:07:00 I?ve decided that the normal, beat-writer type game recaps are, frankly, boring. It?s not that everyone on Bleacher Report isn?t doing a fantastic job, because they are. And to tell you the truth, I?m far more likely to read a playoff game recap on Bleacher Report than anywhere else. It?s just that I, personally, suck at writing them. I bore myself, and my goal is certainly not to fall asleep while writing my own articles. If I want to fall asleep while sitting at my computer, I?ll read Peter King. That said, I still want to win this contest. I?m insanely competitive and desperately want a shiny new Rajon Rondo jersey. So I?ve decided that rather than trying to emulate a boring Boston Globe beat writer, I'm just going to write whatever the heck it is that I'm thinking after the game. I might not even wait until I sober up.Hopefully this will end up being a more enjoyable style of playoff recap. If not, please read them anyway. My Mel Kiper Jr. picture and I are broke. Game 1...
Celtics-Hawks: Celtics Dominate Hawks, Take 2-0 Series Lead
2008-04-24 05:49:00 If you?re going to call out the opposing team?s fans, the least you could do is not get repeatedly schooled by a second year point guard. If you?re going to claim that Kendrick Perkins has no right to question your game one performance, the least you could do is not follow it up with the same type of performance in game two.Mike Bibby succeeded in doing one thing?he gave the Boston crowd something to boo. God knows the Celtics haven?t given them reason to this season.Rajon Rondo continued his impressive playoff debut, filling up the stat sheet with twelve points, six rebounds, eight assists, and four steals. Kevin Garnett took control of Wednesday night's game early and never let go, finishing with his fifteenth straight playoff double-double (nineteen points and ten rebounds). Atlanta made an effort to come out more aggressive in game two, and they were successful in adding some physicality that was missing in game one. For the first five minutes, it seemed to be working.Paul Pi...
Q&A with Steve Weinman
2008-04-23 21:58:00 I’m still a little too shocked and appalled to talk about the Bulls season without inserting profanity between every other word. So, while Chris breaks down the Bulls roster, I talked to a guy whose team is still in the playoffs, Steve Weinman. Steve used to cover the NBA for MVN, and now he’s doing the ...

Boston Celtics Complete Greatest Single-Season Turnaround in NBA History
2008-04-06 20:19:00 With Saturday?s win over the Washington Generals?err?the Charlotte Bobcats, the Celtics have had the greatest turn around in NBA history. This really is something for my generation of Celtics fans. I was too young to really appreciate Larry Bird and the original big three. For the most part, the Celtics have been a laughing stock almost my entire sports-life. While teams like Detroit and Chicago went through good-bad-good cycles, the Celtics remained consistently bad (save for a few REALLY down seasons in the Eastern Conference). It?s amazing how all of the Boston Sports teams that don?t play on ice have followed the same path. 1) Horrible ownership leads to years of inept front office decisions and horrible teams. 2) Ownership finally decides to sell the team. 3) New ownership takes over and completely turns things around. In the Patriots and Red Sox cases, the ownership change eventually lead to multiple championships. While the new Celtics? ownership haven?t br...
The Truth: Paul Pierce is Real NBA MVP
2008-03-21 05:00:00 The race for NBA MVP is as wide open as the Western Conference right now. From what I've been hearing, the choices seem to have been narrowed down to Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, and LeBron James. All of them are fantastic choices. There are clear, legitimate arguments for each of them. I'm a huge NBA fan. I'm an admirer of guys who play a complete game. All of the guys who have been mentioned in the MVP race fall into that category. You have Kobe Bryant, who is an underrated one-on-one defender and an the most dominating offensive force in the NBA. The easy choice for MVP this season, he's led the surprising Lakers up to or near the top of the Western Conference (depending on what happens between now and when this is published on Thursday). Chris Paul is playing out of his mind. He makes his teammates better, can score at will, and might be playing at a higher level than anyone else in the Western Conference. An insane season for a guy who stands at only six-feet tall. LeBr...
Struggling Boston Celtics Looking for Answers Out West
2008-02-26 05:15:00 If you read my Carolina Panther?s mock draft article, you know that I?ve been suffering from some kind of indescribable sickness. Lately, I?ve been wondering if whatever I have has infected the Boston Celtics. Since the All-Star break, the Boston Celtics have been playing lackluster basketball. I?m not all that concerned with the fact that they?re losing. They?re playing some of the best teams in the NBA, especially from an offensive perspective. No team goes through an entire season without experiencing some type of losing streak. I am, however, concerned with how they?re losing. When the Celtics were at their best this season, they seemed to feed off of Kevin Garnett?s energy. When Garnett was injured, the young guys stepped in and supplied the intensity. Guys like Glen Davis and Leon Powe played their hearts out, leading the Celtics to a 7-2 record while Garnett was out. Then Garnett returned. Since his return, they?re 0-3, turning the ball over at an alarming rate, g...

Paul Pierce involved in Credit Card Scandal?
2008-01-15 21:12:00 Remember back in December '06 when Boston Celtic Paul Pierce got caught up after a groupie by the name Vaso charged $95,000 on his American Express card and he claimed he didn't know her, but his credit card receipts showed he'd purchased airline tickets for her in the past, proving he was lying? Back then I heard some chatter that he was totally in on it and that charges had been pressed against him but kept quiet. Anyway, today's Page Six wondered why Paul refused to put down a credit card to reserve a table at Meatpacking District club Tenjune last Thursday night. Club sources told Page Six that Pierce also refused to sign a contract for the table and insisted on paying $2,000 cash instead. They say Paul was over heard yelling at the club manager, "Do you know who I am, and how much money I make?" Didn't matter. Without plastic they wouldn't let Paul in so he had to find somewhere else to party.
Maybe the Bulls should be the ones to emulate the Blazers
2008-01-03 23:48:00 The Bulls should be honored that the Portland Trail Blazers have based their rebuilding plan on John Paxson?s strategy, as the Blazers GM said in today?s Sam Smith column. Kevin Pritchard wanted to build through the draft and bring in good character guys that worked hard, just as the Bulls did, starting with Kirk ...

Beat LA (like a drum)
2007-12-31 09:30:00 The Celtics just completed a 4-0 west coast trip with a shellacking of the LA Lakers.Couple of quick observations:Kobe was awful. Too many bad shots. Lamar Odom is a thug. Also, he can?t cover KG.Andrew Bynum is better than I remember him. He?s also bigger. Looks like they got him on the Yankee program, if you know what I mean.Paul Pierce is playing out of his mind. Having KG and Ray Allen to share the offensive load has apparently freed up enough energy for him to be dominant on both ends of the floor. I can?t remember the last time I saw a player get 3 steals on consecutive possessions. Apparently, No Blood, No Foul doesn?t apply in LA. Apparently, when you get shoulder-checked into the bench, it?s a foul if you land on your own ass. That?s the only explanation I can come up with on why Ray Allen was called for a foul on that Odom play. When Ray Allen is on, his shot falls from anywhere and everywhere.Since the Detroit loss, the Celtics have been playing their best ball of the seas...
Blogging Celtics - Enjoying the Kevin Garnett Era
2007-12-19 06:03:00 It?s hard being the typical negative sports writer in Boston these days. The Red Sox are World Series champions. The Patriots are only the second team in NFL history to start a season 14-0. The Bruins, I?ve been told, are playing pretty well. The Revolution are the MLS?s version of the Buffalo Bills. Boston College was ranked as high as 2 this season in the BCS. The Celtics are 20-2.That?s right, the Celtics are 20-2.Not since Tommy Heinsohn was a player has a Celtics team started 20-2. Of course, when Tommy Heinsohn was a player that kind of start was expected. Back then, it didn?t just seem like the Celtics won championships every season, they DID win championships every season.Ever since Len Bias decided Cocaine was more important than playing professional basketball the Celtics have been in a seemingly unending downward spiral. In no particular order, the following things have happened to the Celtics since 1986.1) Larry Bird?s bad back ? probably cut his career short by 5 years....

No more crush at the top of the East - Celts are new favorites
2007-08-08 03:26:00 It’s been more than a week since my last confession. I admit it… I somewhat hoped - though never believed - that the Bulls would do something in response to the Celtics’ acquisition of Kevin Garnett. Perhaps that’s the root of the delay; or perhaps (perhaps more likely, I should say) I’m just lazy. Either way, the ...
