Double Injury Blow For Man United
2010-09-28 19:47:00 During his pre-match press conference, Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will be out for 2/3 weeks and that Paul Scholes faces a 10 day lay-off. Rooney picked up an ankle injury during the 2-2 draw against Bolton at the weekend. The striker is now set to miss the Premier League game against Sunderland and England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro. "It will be two to three weeks. But it depends because Wayne has done quite well with his recovery from injury in the past." Sir Alex also confirmed that Scholes will be out for a short time with a slight calf problem. The good news is that Rio Ferdinand is set to return to the defence alongside Nemanja Vidic, for the first time this season. In six Premier League games without Ferdinand, the defence has conceded nine goals.

New Contract For Paul Scholes
2010-04-16 13:20:00 Man United veteran Paul Scholes has signed a new one-year contract with Man United, which has today been confirmed by Manchester United. The new contract will see the midfielder stay at United until 2011. Scholes has played 34 times for Man United this season, scoring six goals. Scholes joined United in 1991 as a trainee and the 35-year old has gone on to make 639 appearances for United, scoring 148 goals with more yet to come. Sir Alex Ferguson said: "We are delighted Paul is staying on for another year. "His form this year indicates his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever, that?s every reason to stay on. "There was talk about him wanting to retire, but when you see his enjoyment in training and playing you can see how much he wants to carry on." Scholes has been a fantastic servant for the club and thoroughly deserves to be awarded a new contract.
