Pay It Forward

Pay it forward by tipping well.

I waited tables at The Davis Street Fishmarket in Evanston for nearly three years.  It was just when I was out of college, and it was so popular, there used to be a wait on a Monday night. The staff wanted to be there, and everything clicked.  It was an incredible experience.   ...
Ghosting It Forward - Pay It Forward for Ann Arbor Neighbors/Friends before
2008-10-21 19:49:00
We could all use something positive. "Ghosting" is a fun Halloween tradition of doing something nice for your neighbors and friends. In the spirit of "paying it forward", everyone needs more positive touches in their life. In our current world filled with constant negative news, Ghosting It Forward is an effort to spread some positive touches to neighbors locally or friends virtually. Whether it is an anonymous note of thanks to your neighbor, a bunch of flowers, a bar of chocolate, an inspirational book or movie, or just a smiley face, Ghosting It Forward will energize people who send and receive the positive touches. To join us in "Ghosting It Forward". I have done this before in Ann Arbor, Michigan and watched the delight in the recipients face; just find instructions and you can get started "Ghosting It Forward". No tricks, just all Good Treats.

How many times have you bought a car only to realize 5 minutes later that it is running on fumes and you need to hit the gas station NOW? When I purchased my 2.3-16 a couple of years ago, I was pleasantly surprized that the owner filled it up before handing me the key. I remember thinking that it was ...
Pay it Forward
2008-02-23 15:58:00
Simple concept. Okay, so the big thing yesterday??I bought tickets for a wrap raffle. Not just any wrap. THE wrap I've been drooling over for months. THE wrap that I have wanted for Sarah to have for her children (if/when yadda yadda). THE wrap that isn't available in stores/online at the time. THE wrap that costs and arm and a leg.THE WRAP. A Didymos Silk Millefiori. Mmmmmm scrumptious, beautiful.I lost the raffle. Boo hoo. I was bummed, but kinda figured I wouldn't win. So, I went about my day. Then a few hours later I received a message from the raffle winner saying she would send me the wrap. That she had read how I wanted the wrap as a legacy wrap for Sarah, and that she already had one. Needless to say I was absolutely floored. It literally took me about an hour to get my head on straight and focus on what I had to get done with the girls. So, my little plan was to sell the Stone Millefiori that I "settled" for if I happened to win the raffle. But now I didn'...

Pay It Forward - One Last Box Left!
2008-02-20 22:20:00
I couldn´t send off this one little box filled with candied roasted almonds. The only guy who joined the PIF-game dropped out suddenly. The box is covered with black and silver circles. It was the only design I found which wasn´t too girlish.Anybody wants to have it? There are no obligations. (You can join the game if you really want to, but there´s no need to do that.) I just need your address and off it will go.
Pay It Forward - Parcels Sent Out Today Morning!
2008-02-13 03:19:00
So finally I made it! I managed to get everything ready for the pay-it-forward game for Milla, Mithi, Mim, Ann and Switchsky. I´m not sure, but I think Fabe (the only guy in the whole game) backed out when he noticed that everything should be handmade. :)Anyway, I´m glad that I sent off the parcels today morning. Part of the content has been lying around here for some weeks. Everything is either handmade or at least designed by myself. Inside the handmade gift is a food gift. I´m not sure whether it will still taste good by the time it arrives, but it is in a Ziploc bag, so it won´t have an effect the other stuff. In case it isn´t edible anymore, just throw it out and enjoy the other stuff. Please let me know when the parcels arrive. The lady at the post office said it would take about 10 days. I hope the shipping won´t take longer with all the mail sent off for Valentine´s day.
Pay it Forward, and Is Google Too Big not to be Evil?

Haven?t been writing at all for several reasons. First, what I was afraid was going to happen, already happened, so I don?t feel the urgency to warn anybody about the reckless behavior of the Fed and the Administration. Now it is all out for you to see. There are a couple of things that still concern ... A couple of months ago I took someone up on a "Pay it forward pledge". That someone was the very talented illustrator Pia Johansson from Sweden. In turn, I made the same pledge myself, and I still have room for another couple of takers, but I'll get back to that in a minute. At Christmas time I came home to find this envelope on my doorstep and I was a wee bit baffled, as I couldn't work out who would be writing me from Sweden! I had managed to forget that not just did I have to send something to someone, but also I would receive something from someone! The letter was, off course, from Pia and she enclosed a note, written on a Christmas card with one of her own illustrations. The pay it forward gift was, as promised, from her own hand as well. This wonderful rather voluptious wee lady now prides my knitting bag, as I thought that was the most apt place to put her, considering that I made my own pledge here on my knitting blog!Thank you so much (or rather: tusinde tak!) Pia for play...
Pay It Forward - Valentine's Edition

Karmyn over at Dreaming What Ifs... sent me these wonderful homemade cards for her Pay It Forward exchange. Now she did change the rules and didn't require that people continue the Pay It Forward on their blogs, but I decided to play along. So since September, I've been wracking my brains as to what I could make, as I am not all that crafty and surely no one wants a cute piece of software code. Finally, I decided on these little knit hearts, based on the Mochimochi pattern. No, they are not filled with potpourri, I am NOT that crafty! If you'd like one, leave a comment with your choice of color, red or purple. And to keep Karmyn's tradition, you are not required to Pay It Forward or even have a blog. I will randomly choose four winners on January 24th, so spread the word.

Pay It Forward
2007-11-30 00:46:00
I’ve done maybe 1 or 2 web/blog ‘tag you’re it’ type things in the past, but I’ve kind of stopped doing a lot of that stuff. No one cares that my favorite movie is Bed Time for Bonzo (it’s not… Really, it’s not). There’s a new push going around that I thought was kind of cool, though, called Pay It Forward. I first saw this on Nicole’s site, Pinch My Salt, but I was too late, only to see that my friend Nika was also paying it forward on her site, Nika’s Culinaria. PIF is simple: To be involved, you have to be a current blogger, though it doesn’t have to be a food blog. The idea is that each of the three people will receive something homemade by me. Those three people have to do the same thing on their blog… Post about PIF, allow commenters to comment, and send the first three something homemade. The time frame for when I have to have sent out my homemade whatever is 1 year from today. I don’t p...

2007-11-23 22:45:00
While over at Farmhouse Style back  WAY earlier this month, I signed up to participate in the Pay It Forward~ Gift Exchange. In exchange for receiving a handmade gift from Rhonda, I agree to make and give a handmade item to 3 people who want to join in the exchange. Here's how it works:I will send a handmade gift to the first three people who leave a comment on my blog, requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don't know what the gift will be yet, and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, that is my promise. The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog. If anyone is interested in joining me, I will send a handmade gift to the first three to leave a comment with their promise to pay it forward.Tags: Pay it forward Gift exchange
Pay It Forward

Paying it forward, what a great idea! I can?t think of a better way to get into the holiday spirit. I got this magnificent idea from Laurie of Quirky Cupcake. She got it from Dolores of Chronicles of Culinary Curiosity. Delores got the idea from Laura of Cult of Domesticity. Laura got it from Amy of The Knit Girl. It?s like a chain letter you want to get. ?Pay it Forward? here?s how you can participate: ?I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this Paying It Forward exchange. I don?t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, which is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog.?How great is this? So, if you would like to take part in some good karma and receive a gift, just leave a comment. That?s it. Happy Holidays! Gigi

Oprah's Pay It Forward
2007-10-22 18:06:00
True joy comes with giving.Oprah Winfrey liaised with Bank of America to give $1,000 to each person in her audience BUT...they had to give it away to someone they did not know within seven days and report back, preferably with a short film. The results were amazing. Perfect strangers reached out to others as some gave away the money in a random way whilst others gave themselves a challenging project which stretched far into the community. Some of the ways people translated $1,000 into giving:Coffee gift cards in Seattle$500 gift card to a single mum to shop for her kids' Christmas presents at Toys r Us.Huge tips given to pizza delivery men.Four strangers chosen in the street to receive $250.Money given to children who had just lost their father to cancer.A picnic treating an entire community to a day of fun.Basketball shoes for a boys team. They changed the quality of life for individuals:Four women combined their $1,000 to buy a car for a single mother, turning her four hours a da...

Bobby Brown pays back Hot 99.5 and they pay it forward
2007-03-08 21:41:04
So Bobby Brown, who reneged on his deal with the radio station that bailed him out of jail, has paid the station back. I wonder where he got the money from since he didn't have it last week? Well anyways the station has come up with a plan to make good of the money that came out of something, well, bad. Here it is: Bobby couldn't cut it, but we know you can! We're going to repurpose the money we got back from posting Bobby Brown's bail and give $1,000 to 20 people who promise to "pay it forward." We'll hand out the cash as long as you have a legitimate need for it and promise to make the world just a little bit better along the way. For instance, say you have a broken water heater and can't afford a new one. Tell us that you'll read one extra book to your kids each week, and we'll give you the dough. Use however much you want for whatever you need…as long as you promise to make a difference. You know, "...
