It was great to have Pedro Martinez back on the mound last night, I said going into the game that if he could go five innings, in which he allowed three runs I'd take it. Martinez struggled early but then settled down into a nice groove, after a long top of the fourth inning, he came back out and it was clear that the cold San Francisco night had him a bit rusty. After giving up two runs he got out of the inning and could have left the game with the team leading by six runs. But Pedro took the mound in the sixth and quickly put two on, his best pitching of the night came in the sixth when his pitch count was around 100 and he found something extra good to finish off the inning. In the sixth Pedro showed that swagger, that he wasn't going to be denied finishing the inning on a successful note. One of the most frustrating parts of last weeks 3-1 series loss to the Nationals was the outstanding starting pitching the Mets received.Mike Pelfrey looked solid pitching 7.2 innings in which he allowed one run on three hits, three walks while striking out four. After giving up 14 runs in three starts against playoff caliber teams ( Arizona, Philly, Atl.), Pelf. bounced back with two solid performances. With his ERA hovering in the mid fours, I think it's critical for the young righty to gain experience in the majors. But he may not give the team their best chance to win against competitive teams. John Perrotto of the Beaver County Times chronicles the Pirates' recent draft blunders.  So many wasted picks.  Under different management, the Pirates could have David Wright, B.J. Upton, Carlos Quentin, Tim Lincecum, and Matt Wieters in the organization.  Sounds like a fantasy team.  Such hindsight cherry-picking is unfair, but the Pirates should have Upton and Wieters right now. Anyway, the depressing trend of bad picks for the Pirates is likely to change this year.  For the first time, the Bucs might give out a Major League contract to a draft pick.  That pick would be Pedro Alvarez, who Perrotto believes the Pirates will take at #2.  Rumblings do not indicate the Rays want Alvarez.  Both Jonathan Mayo and Baseball America believe the Pirates will get their man.

Mets starter Pedro Martinez explained his thinking to Roger Rubin of the New York Daily News.  Pedro is feeling good and should be back with the Mets this month.  However, he is not under contract past 2008 and retirement is an option.  Martinez's father has brain cancer, and he wants to be there for him. Mets starters are fifth in the NL with a 3.89 ERA.  Johan Santana and John Maine make a great 1-2 punch, and Oliver Perez is doing fine.  A healthy Pedro should give the Mets one of the league's better rotations.  They're currently just a game back of the Marlins.

New York Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez threw a four-inning, 55-pitch simulated game in Port St. Lucie as he continued his recovery from a strained left hamstring, Omar Minaya said. The GM said Martinez successfully fielded a bunt and covered first base, but warned it's difficult to declare that the pitcher had definitively cleared a hurdle since he has yet to pitch in a minor-league game. "The adrenaline is going to be different, so you just don't know," Minaya said. Minaya said Martinez likely would pitch in another simulated game, ramping up to 75-80 pitches, before advancing to a rehab game with St. Lucie. That scenario would mean Martinez would return no sooner than the May 29-June 1 Dodgers series at Shea.

It's hard to believe that Pedro Martinez has become such a forgotten man in the make-up of this team. But Pedro has missed so much time over the past two years that it's understandable how he can't to counted on, anything he provides is an added bonus. Not So Casual Friday: Nude satin Kasirai shoes by Pedro Garcia This is yet another example of a shoe that's simple yet oh-so very gorgeous! It's Pedro Garcia's 'Kasirai' shoe, which comes in this glorious nude coloured satin.
