On Peggy Noonan as Athena
2008-09-02 16:49:00 I had a thought last night, more succinct than my initial post on this matter about why I call columnist and former Reagan Speechwriter Peggy Noonan my Athena: She offers intelligent ideas in a distinctly feminine voice. UPDATE:As I drove into St. Paul after writing this, I thought to adjust my short expression of Peggy’s Athena-like qualities. ...

They Shoot Horses, Don't They?
2008-05-25 00:53:00 More reax to psychopath Hillary's stunning and revealing narcissistic victim pathology. "For all her claims of media bias and ill treatment by her male fellow candidates, Hillary has got off absurdly softly in this campaign. No one ? neither her rivals nor mainstream journalists ? has had the guts to explore or even list the bursting catalogue of past Clinton scandals, in which Hillary was nearly always hip deep." Camille Paglia in exploring how Hillary's clinging to the phony sexism whine vineand is ruining it for other chicks. WSJ's Peggy Noonan: Great women, all different, but great in terms of size, of impact on the world and of struggles overcome. Struggle was not something they read about in a book. They did not use guilt to win election -- it comes up zero if you Google "Thatcher" and "You're just picking on me because I'm a woman." Instead they used the appeals men used: stronger leadership, better ideas, a superior philosophy.Someone please have the compassion and cojo...

Snark of the Day: Peggy Noonan
2008-05-23 13:12:00 It is prissy. Mrs. Clinton’s supporters are now complaining about the Hillary nutcrackers sold at every airport shop. Boo hoo. If Golda Meir, a woman of not only proclaimed but actual toughness, heard about Golda nutcrackers, she would have bought them by the case and given them away as party favors. Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal, explains the difference between Mrs. Clinton and a real leader. Copyright © 2008 BitsBlog. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. Peggy Noonan and an Asymmetric view of Republican troubles.
2008-05-17 03:09:00 Peggy Noonan took Republicans to task, piling on the evidence that the Republican "brand" is tarnished. Perhaps the Republican troubles go deeper than a little tarnish and only some Democratic rust will shine the Republicans up. Explanation: When do you feel more conservative: When money's low and your neighbors are acting up or when you live off your fathers trust fund in his gated mansion? Likewise, good times prompt Democratic victory, as the populace grows weary of improvement and just wants to relax. To put it another way, people will only vote for Republicans, the "course-righteners" in times of danger or perceived Democratic malfeasance. The "malfeasance" manifests itself in the "giving away the store" idea, or, the belief that Democrats have or will irresponsibly damage society to benefit the object of their pity du jour. On social issues, this means affirmative action, gay marriage, sex education in kindergarten, etc. In economics, look at California where, after Gr...

Hillary: It's My Party and I'll Cry If I Want To...
2008-05-10 14:17:00 "Everything I hate about myself I see in Hillary." No, not me. The old me. Maybe. But this comes from former Wash Post gossip now Vanity Fair disher Judy Bachrach. WowOwow "She's no damsel, and she causes distress." Peggy Noonan WSJ Hill's not even vice-presidential material. Ted Kennedy: She's not in tune with "the nobler aspirations of the American people." NYP "Bill Clinton has wrecked Hillary's campaign. He's like the creepy guy who graduated last year but still hangs around the high school cafeteria chatting up sophomores." Ann Coulter

And Now Even Peggy Noonan Sounds Less Like A Right Winger than Hillary
2008-05-03 01:51:00 At least on Jeremiah Wright: I am out of step. There is something that is upsetting others whom I care about and whose thoughts are often not unlike my own. And it’s not hitting me the same way. I am referring to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. I disagree with and disapprove of the things he says. The ...

"A Small Blond Man With Breasts"
2008-04-18 20:22:00 Peggy Noonan from today's WSJ: This is what I think will happen. At some future point Mrs. Clinton will leave, and at a more distant one she will try to come back. But more than one cycle will have to pass before she does. She'll need more than four years to shake off the impression she made in 2008. And this is how you'll know she's making another bid for the presidency. She will wear skirts.... Click the Headline Link to Visit Copious Dissent and Read the Full Story.
WSJ's Peggy Noonan Says it All About Hillary Clinton
2008-03-29 09:54:00 Clinton's fictions about dodging bullets on the tarmac -- and we have to hope they were lies, because if they weren't, if she thought what she was saying was true, we are in worse trouble than we thought -- either...
White Men Can't Jump
2008-02-16 16:53:00 But they can dribble. Al Gore and prominent Democrats are teaming up to sit out the primary game. NYT Democratic party heavyweights are wrestling over what could end up a wild and crazy convention if the so-called nearly 800 "superdelegates" screw the voters and override the popular vote. Most of these superdelegates are politicians plied with more than $900,000 total in campaign contributions from Obama and Hillary. NYP Half of these kingmakers are white men. PoliticoA most damning Hillary assessment was delivered this week by well-respected Associated Press political reporter Ron Fournier quoted here by Peggy Noonan in yesterday's WSJ: "The Clintons always treated party leaders as "an extension of their . . . ambitions," "pawns in a game of success and survival. She may pay a high price for their selfishness soon." He cited party insiders: Superdelegates "won't hesitate to ditch" Mrs. Clinton if her problems persist." If one believes the political prognosticators, Hillary's a "...

Media: One Toke Over The Line
2008-02-08 19:31:00 Hot Air nabs Fox News electronically labeling John McCain a Democrat during an interview yesterday with Neil Cavuto. Liberal radio talk show guy Bill Press issues a clarion call to the media to stop pimping their favorite presidential candidates."I'm asking is that, for the rest of the campaign, the media treat every candidate equally bad. That's their job. And there's a big difference between their job and ours. To bend a phrase: 'They report. We decide.'" WorldNetDailyLet's further deconstruct the media's role, shall we? Tee Vee talking heads refused to acknowledge for whatever reason that Obama won Super Tuesday. I wasn't the only scribe declaring Obama the victor. The prescient former Reagan speechwriter Peggy "Thousand Points of Light" Noonan in today's WSJ: Deep down journalists think she's a political Rasputin who will not be dispatched. Prince Yusupov served him cupcakes laced with cyanide, emptied a revolver, clubbed him, tied him up and threw him in a frozen rive...

Peggy Noonan Considers Obama The Bulletproof Candidate
2008-02-08 17:21:00 I’ve noted before, including in this post last night, how Obama would be a much stronger candidate against John McCain than Hillary Clinton. Democrats remain evenly split on their choice, but Republicans appear united in realizing which Democrat would pose the greatest threat to them. On the way to the office this morning I heard ...

The nonelites of Old Europe, and the normal folk of New Europe, especially our beloved friend Poland, will not be depressed, and many will be happy. Let's savor that ...

Peggy Noonan on the Clintons
2008-01-25 20:57:00 http://online.wsj.com/article/d-eclarations.html In Dillon, S.C., on Thursday Mr. Clinton "predicted that many voters will be guided mainly by gender and race loyalties" and suggested his wife may lose Saturday's primary because black voters will side with Mr. Obama. Who is raising race as an issue? Bill Clinton knows. There are many serious and thoughtful liberals and Democrats who support Mr. Obama, and who are seeing Mr. Clinton in a new way and saying so. Here is William Greider in The Nation, The recent roughing-up of Barack Obama was in the trademark style of the Clinton years in the White House. High-minded and self-important on the surface, smarmily duplicitous underneath, meanwhile jabbing hard to the groin area. They are a slippery pair and come as a package. The nation is at fair risk of getting them back in the White House for four more years. The thought makes me queasy. Mr. Obama takes the pummeling and preaches the high road. It's all windup with him, like a grea...

Peggy Noonan?s Fairly Reasonable Assessment of the Candidates
2007-12-28 16:36:00 Peggy Noonan reviews the candidates from both parties based upon whether she finds the candidates “reasonable” as opposed to whether they share her ideology. As a result of looking beyond ideology, I must say that Noonan does a far more reasonable job of assessing the candidates than I would expect from a conservative columnist at ...

Peggy Noonan hits Huckabee the nail on the head
2007-12-23 23:09:00 Not only does Peggy Noonan, herself a very religious woman, get what was wrong with Huckabee’s Christmas ad, her description of the scene’s careful staging puts the lie to Mike’s assertion that the whole cross image was just a fortuitous accident (kind of like seeing Christ in a tortilla, I guess): I didn’t see the famous ...

Peggy Noonan Finds Modern Republicans To Be Too Extreme For Ronald Reagan
2007-12-14 18:19:00 In some ways I am really happy to see the rise of Huckabee in the Republican race as this is causing many conservatives to question the direction the party has moved. In the past Republicans such as Ronald Reagan have used the religious right to get votes but have typically only thrown them a few ...

Peggy Noonan: The Pulpit and the Potemkin Village
2007-12-14 15:49:00 Opinion Journal article link The Pulpit and the Potemkin Village Would Reagan survive in today's GOP? And is Mrs. Clinton in for a fall this winter? Friday, December 14, 2007 12:01 a.m. EST What is happening in Iowa is no longer boring but big, and may prove huge. The Republican race looks--at the moment--to be determined primarily by one thing, the question of religious faith. In my lifetime faith has been a significant issue in presidential politics, but not the sole determinative one. Is that changing? If it is, it is not progress.Mike Huckabee is in the lead due, it appears, to voter approval of the depth and sincerity of his religious beliefs as lived out in his ministry as an ordained Southern Baptist. He flashes "Christian leader" over his picture in commercials; he asserts his faith is "mainstream"; his surrogates speak of Mormonism as "strange" and "definitely a factor." Mr. Huckabee said this summer that a candidate's faith is &quo...
Peggy Noonan on Hillary Clintons Campaign
2007-12-14 15:47:00 Peggy Noonan on Hillary Clintons Campaign This thought occurs that Hillary Clinton's entire campaign is, and always was, a Potemkin village, a giant head fake, a haughty facade hollow at the core. That she is disorganized on the ground in Iowa, taken aback by a challenge to her invincibility, that she doesn't actually have an A team, that her advisers have always been chosen more for proven loyalty than talent, that her supporters don't feel deep affection for her. That she's scrambling chaotically to catch up, with surrogates saying scuzzy things about Barack Obama and drug use, and her following up with apologies that will, as always, keep the story alive. That her guru-pollster, the almost universally disliked Mark Penn, has, according to Newsday, become the focus of charges that he has "mistakenly run Clinton as a de facto incumbent" and that the top officials on the campaign have never had a real understanding of Iowa. This is true of Mrs. Clinton and her Iowa camp...
In WSJ Peggy Noonan Calls Hillary Clinton A Jerk For Playing Gender Card
2007-11-17 18:44:00 Never one to mince words, Peggy Noonan, the former speechwriter for Ronald Regan and a contributing columnist at The Wall Street Journal, wrote this classic column comparing Senator Clinton and former Prime Minister Margret Thacther. In it she wrote.. "It's all kind of wonderful, isn't it? Someone indulged in special pleading and America didn't buy it. It's as if the country this week made it official: We now formally declare that the woman who uses the fact of her sex to manipulate circumstances is a jerk."Noonan also is a fan of Barack Obama. PEGGY NOONAN - WALL STREET JOURNAL Things Are Tough All Over But Mrs. Clinton is no Iron Lady. Friday, November 9, 2007 12:01 a.m. ESTThe story as I was told it is that in the early years of her prime ministership, Margaret Thatcher held a meeting with her aides and staff, all of whom were dominated by her, even awed. When it was over she invited her cabinet chiefs to join her at dinner in a nearby restaurant. They went, arrayed thems...
Peggy Noonan is Taking Barack Obama More Seriously
2007-10-11 00:08:00 Peggy Noonan has made a number of excellent points in recent months. She has questioned John McCain’s decision to pander to the religious right and written favorably of opposition to the war from both Chuck Hagel and John Kerry. In July she was even quite critical of George Bush. Now I see that that her ...

Peggy Noonan Gets Weird, Manhattanized . . .
2007-07-13 23:13:00 The always well written Peggy Noonan column today suggests that she is uncomfortable with President Bush?s lack of gloominess with respect to his current difficulties. Noonan makes references to Lyndon Johnson and Abraham Lincoln and refers to the struggles they faced at the lowest levels of their Presidencies. Noonan apparently is not satisfied with the President?s level of suffering and self pity. As if having a bad attitude somehow corresponds to being an effective leader.Though Carter was a horrible President he struggled as well with his Presidential problems. Did this inner doom make him a better President? Where is Noonan on this? Where was Noonan on Harry Truman?s lonely days in the Oval Office? I find it quite ironic that the woman who wrote President Reagan?s uplifting and optimistic address to the nation after the Challenger disaster now has a problem with George Bush?s positive outlook.Noonan is usually dead on but accusing the President of being too optimistic is just p...
Peggy Noonan: Bush Broke Away From Us (Conservatives), Now We Must Break Aw
2007-06-01 08:51:00 Gotta love Peggy Noonan. She goes on a RANT in her Op-Ed piece in the Opinion Journal today. Peggy’s a TRUE “conservative”, despite the accusations a-plenty by the neocons that she’s a “closet liberal” for no other reason than the fact she has been an outspoken critic of the Bush (II) Administration.
