Politieagenten Bike2play onderweg naar Peking
2008-05-13 13:32:00

BEIJING, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Special trains are to run between Beijing and co-host Olympics cities -- including Hong Kong, Qingdao and Tianjin -- for the convenience of athletes and spectators, a Chinese legislator said Friday.     Luo Jinbao, who is also deputy director of the Beijing railway administration, made the remarks on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress, the top legislature.     Earlier-, the government of Qingdao, where the sailing events will be held, said that commuter buses would run between the Qingdao railway station and Olympic venues during the Games.     The 2008 Olympic Games run from Aug. 8 to 24 and Beijing is expected to have 500,000 to 550,000 overseas visitors during the period.     China has geared up transport preparations for the Games with Beijing airport's new Terminal 3, a major expansion project, getting its first commercial fl...
Peking 2008 Olympics Guide: Mobile Phone
2008-03-07 16:13:00
Getting a local SIM Card/phone number for your mobile phone A SIM Card from China Mobile Having a local mobile phone number in China can prove very convenient. If you are traveling with others it makes finding each other when you get separated or split up very simple. When I go to a market with someone we invariably become separated and we can easily reconnect. If you are stuck in traffic you can call and tell someone you are late. If you have a taxi driver who doesn't understand you can put him on the phone with a Chinese friend or your hotel. When you arrive at a friend's place but cannot see their door its covenient to ring them. If you order something from a shop they can ring you when its ready. People can also reach you from overseas and in a pinch you can use the phone to ring overseas (long distance calling cards are the cheap way to call overseas). Taking your own GSM mobile phone to China and getting a mobile phone SIM card is very easy. You don't have to b...
Olympic Torch Relay History, Peking 2008
2008-03-07 16:06:00
The first runner of Olympic Torch, the young athlete Konstantinos Kondylis Fire is a sacred symbol dating back to prehistoric times. In ancient Greece it symbolized the creation of the world, renewal and light. It was also the sacred symbol of Hephaestus, and a gift to the human race from Prometheus, who stole it from Zeus. At the centre of every city-state in ancient Greece there was an altar with an ever-burning fire and in every home the sacred Flame burned, dedicated to Hestia, goddess of the family. Torch Relay races started in ancient Greece as religious rituals held at night. Soon they turned into a team athletic event, initially among adolescents, and further developed to become one of the most popular ancient sports. The enchanting power of fire was a source of inspiration. Sacred flames lit by the rays of the sun always burned in Olympia, in an altar dedicated to Hestia. Fire was ignited with the help of a concave mirror, which has the ability to concentrate the rays of t...
The oldest athlete in the Peking Olympic Games ?
2008-02-09 13:56:00
A 67-year-old Japanese man is planning to compete in the Olympic Games in Peking next summer. Hiroshi Hoketsu, a horse rider who will turn 67 next month, is already a former competing athlete. But his last participation dates back to the 1964 Olympic Games, which were held in Tokyo. Should he compete, Hoketsu will be the oldest Japanese athlete to participate in the Olympics ever.Unfortunately for mister Hoketsu he will not be the oldest athlete to have participated in the Olympic Games. In order to obtain that record he must also take part in the next Olympics, which will be held in 2012 in London. The record of oldest athlete is currently held by Oscar Swahn from Sweden. Swahn was 72 years of age when he took part in the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp.

China hails "greatest discovery since Peking Man"
2008-01-23 10:35:00
BEIJING (Reuters) - An almost complete human skull fossil that could date back 100,000 years has been unearthed in China, state media said on Wednesday, hailing it as the greatest discovery since Peking Man. Last month's find in Xuchang, in the central province of Henan, was made after two years of excavation just as two archaeologists were leaving for the Lunar New Year break, the China Daily said. "We expect more discoveries of importance," Li Zhanyang, archaeologist with the Henan Cultural Relics and Archaeology Research Institute, was quoted as saying. The fossil consists of 16 pieces of the skull with protruding eyebrows and a small forehead. "More astonishing than the completeness of the skull is that it still has a fossilized membrane on the inner side, so scientists can track the nerves of the Palaeolithic ancestors," Li was quoted as saying. Besides the skull, more than 30,000 animal fossils, and stone and bone artifacts were found. "Th...

Li qun Kaoya (Peking Duck)
2007-11-21 05:22:00
Li Qun is one of oldest restaurant that served the popular Peking Duck in Beijing. Located at the heart of a Hutong, you might feel ancient dining here. The place reminded me of an old Chinese house. We almost got lost looking for this but you can ask taxi driver to drop you directly near the restaurant-house. Made of bricks, the house- turned-restaurant maybe your trip down Chinese history. Upon entering, you would see a lot of pictures of the owner with celebrities from all around the globe. Using old-school roasting style, you can see the duck being roasted right before your eyes. You can also ask that the waiter could slice the skin of the duck at your table side. (more…)

"LOBO?" says Ethan. "Yes?" "I've started reading Predator Press, and I'm starting to suspect that what you're publishing isn't entirely true." The boy tugs on my arm. Peking University (Beida 北京大学)
2007-06-01 15:39:00
One of the TOP UNIVERSITIES of Beijing is Peking University (also known as Beida). This huge university is located at the heart of Haidian District, near Zhongguancun (electronic haven of Beijing). The university boasts quality education, huge buildings, superb sceneries, ancient architectures since it was once Qing Dynasty’s royal garden. Anyone can enter the campus because it also holds a great many sights to behold. I went here once to take pictures! The huge campus is also perfect for biking. If you plan to study Mandarin here, you must take a test to see if you pass their standards. I think you must at least know basic Mandarin. The curricullum is much stricter that other school in terms of attendance. Some of my friends told me that they have exams every other day! They’re not many foreigners who study here. After reading their website, I saw that they offer scholarship programs for foreigners. You can check it out! Peking University INFO

The Amazing Race and Peking Duck
2007-02-20 09:57:02
I had two firsts last night - watching the Amazing Race and eating peking duck. It’s ironic that I’ve seen a ton of reality shows, yet I have always passed up the one about international travel where the contestants carry all their stuff all on their backs. The only reason I decided to start watching this all star season is that I got to know Rob and Amber, a popular married couple who have been on Survivor, through another show they shot last year. Ok, I admit that I mostly watch for Amber because she’s hot! Rob makes a good sidekick. At any rate, they came in first on the leg last shown last night from Miami to Ecuador. I can appreciate their competitiveness, and think I’m in for the full race. The peking duck was enjoyed at Peking Gourmet Inn, a chinese restaurant frequented by Presidents Bush Sr, Bush Jr, the Clintons, and tons of other politicians and foreign leaders. You can tell because ther are a few hundred framed and signed photos on the wall,...
