Pentagon: Taliban a resilient force in Afghanistan
2008-06-27 16:05:00
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Taliban has regrouped after its initial fall from power in Afghanistan and the pace of its attacks is likely to increase this year, according to a Pentagon report that offers a dim view of progress in the nearly seven-year-old war. Noting that insurgent violence has climbed, the report said that despite U.S. ...
Pentagon lawyers sought harsh interrogation
2008-06-17 16:58:00
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Pentagon in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks pursued abusive interrogation techniques once favored by such U.S. enemies as North Korea and Vietnam, despite stern warnings by several military lawyers that the methods were cruel and even illegal, according to a Senate investigation. The findings, detailed in a hearing Tuesday, ...
We Have Lost a Friend and a Military Dog Brat
2008-06-09 22:44:00
We named her after the President of Iceland in the early 90s and had to spell it wherever we went! Vigdis joined the family in Annandale, VA after our return from Iceland in 1992 when I was assigned to the Pentagon. She never left our side for 16 years. She played with us, our neighbors' dogs, our friends and eventually our grandsons too! Always friendly but also a defender in time of need. Her picture doesn't reflect the German Shepherd in her but her heart did! An intruder found out the hard way one evening! She hated air travel but loved the freedom of a large yard at McChord AFB and one evening at Charleston AFB she decided to go on her "own" walk on the trail around the base! Friends saw her on the trail and called us and we think she did the loop like we did as a family! She came home tail wagging and seemingly telling us she didn't need us all the time! Described in her older age as "Gentle Vigdis" she could take a treat from a one year old without touching their...

Did Iranian agents dupe Pentagon officials?
2008-06-06 19:15:00
In a word, yes, several times. First Chalabi, the Iranian spy, working paradoxically with Israeli spies in AIPAC, manipulated the already inclined neocons in the Bush Administration, to lead the Iraqi invasion. McClatchy Washington Bureau Defense Department counterintelligence investigators suspected that Iranian exiles who provided dubious intelligence on Iraq and Iran to a small group of Pentagon officials might have "been used as agents of a foreign intelligence service ... to reach into and influence the highest levels of the U.S. government," a Senate Intelligence Committee report said Thursday. A top aide to then-secretary of defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, however, shut down the 2003 investigation into the Pentagon officials' activities after only a month, and the Defense Department's top brass never followed up on the investigators' recommendation for a more thorough investigation, the Senate report said.

Is it conveying information or is it part of a propaganda machine trying to sell administration ...

My Nephews first day of work at the Pentagon was yesterday. I guess this is the view as he pulled into the massive parking area. If this is his parking spot, well, I 'll know he must be sweeping floors or something, be cause I am not quite sure what he is doing their. Hopefully killing terrorists or some such fun, but it seems I will have to pry more to get the information I need. Since he is younger I maybe able to torture him? I hear water boarding is quick. I'll go right to that, why mess around with finger-nail pulling and beatings? Just pour ice cold water over the little brat! HAHA!! He's a good kid and I am sure he will plan the killing of many of Americas enemy's! OOH-RAHHHHH!!!Powered by b2evolution.

The Mega-Pentagon: A Bush-Enabled Monster We Can't Stop

Britain?s phoney war on terror

Pentagon says growth of Al-Qaeda safe havens 'troubling'
2008-05-25 14:42:00
CNews WASHINGTON: A Pentagon report said Friday that the growth of Al-Qaeda safe havens in Pakistan's tribal areas is "troubling" and warned it may take Pakistan several years to turn around the situation. The report to Congress by the US Department of Defense said Pakistan increased its troop levels in the border areas by 30,000 last year, and made "significant and costly" efforts to eliminate safe havens."It is troubling that despite these efforts, safe havens in the FATA have grown in recent years," the report said. The Pentagon report noted that 700 Pakistanis have been killed in suicide attacks since July 2007.It said "Al-Qaeda and other violent extremists continue to hide out in the FATA, where they are able to recruit, train, and target US and western interests, including plots against Europe and the US homeland."Madrassas, or Islamic religious schools, "continue to promote jihad and martyrdom, and provide potential operatives for acts of violence in Afghanistan," it said."De...

By- Suzie-Q @ 8:30 PM MST Pentagon document dump: E-mailer suggested ’softball’ interview with top general.» Last month, the Pentagon released an extensive document dump with details on its military analyst propaganda program. TPM Muckraker notes that in a 2006 e-mail, someone (with a redacted name) e-mailed Pentagon officials stating that Jed Babbin, a participant in the analyst program, would be guest hosting for right-wing radio talker Michael Medved. Babbin requested an interview with Gen. George Casey, then top commander in Iraq. Pitching the request to interview Casey to the Pentagon officials, the e-mailer said: “this would be a softball interview and the show is 8th or 9th in the nation.” Allison Barber, a Public Affairs official at the Pentagon, responded: Thanks for sending this. Just fyi, probably wouldn’t put “softball” interview in writing. If that got out it would compromise jed and general casey. The e-mailer wrote back: “check, check.”

Death's Factotum: Michael Gordon and the Times Pour Pentagon Poison into Na
2008-05-06 11:26:00
by Chris Floyd Judith Miller might have been the poster child for the corporate media's collaboration with the Bush Administration's war of aggression against Iraq but her New York Times colleague and co-writer, Michael Gordon, was every bit as culpable and complicit, happily playing stovepipe to the bloodthirsty bullshit gurgling up from the White House and Pentagon cesspits.  Miller is gone from the mainstream heights, but Gordon soldiers on at the Times literally. Although he is probably not paid directly by the Bush Regime to peddle their propaganda, he serves precisely the same function as the military brass that the Administration embedded as "independent analysts" on the network news shows a nefarious practice most recently exposed in great detail by...the New York Times. But the Times, like most of our great institutions, piously follows the scriptural injunction, and lets not the right hand know what its left hand is doing. And so...

Pentagon Declassifies Five-Year-Old Interrogation Memo

In the explosive documentary film series Bush's War, which aired on PBS last week, a September 14th, 2001 memo by former deputy assistant attorney general for the OLC, John Yoo, was discussed. Portions from an interview with Yoo were aired in which he described crafting a memo that detailed nearly unlimited decision-making rights for the President George W. Bush under the Constitution during wartime. Yesterday, the Pentagon made a very similar March 14, 2003 Justice Department memo - also authored by John Yoo - public for the first time. Though the memo is now defunct, it took nine months to be rescinded, and five years to be officially public knowledge.

Pentagon To Colleges–Give Us The Student Names!
2008-04-01 09:08:00
The Defense Department has announced a new get tough policy with colleges that refuse to turn over the names of students since that information is of vital importance to milltary recruiters. The Pentagon wants the exact same access tos tudent directories that is provided all other prospective employers. Students can opt out of having this information given to military recruiters only if they at the same time opt out of the data being provided any prospective employer. The new policy refuses to accept a school’s claim that recruiters are banned from the college grounds because school authorities have determined no students wish to enter the armed forces. Federal funding can be cut off to colleges that refuse access to millitary recruiters or deny ROTC programs on campus. The Supreme Court last year upheld the right of government to deny funding if a college denies recruiters access to the school. The reality of modern times is few college students are interested in military ca...

Pentagon tells Bush of troop strains
2008-03-27 12:03:00
Not like he’ll listen, but they tried again anyway: Behind the Pentagon’s closed doors, U.S. military leaders told President Bush Wednesday they are worried about the Iraq war’s mounting strain on troops and their families. But they indicated they’d go along with a brief halt in pulling out troops this summer. The Joint Chiefs of Staff did say senior commanders in Iraq should make more frequent assessments of security conditions, an idea that appeared aimed at increasing pressure for more rapid troop reductions. The chiefs’ concern is that U.S. forces are being worn thin, compromising the Pentagon’s ability to handle crises elsewhere in the world. Pentagon finds no link between al Qaeda & Saddam Hussein...then tries to hi
2008-03-27 00:00:00
This story came out last week and is truly a pathetic attempt at censorship by our government: The Bush Administration apparently does not want a U.S. military study that found no direct connection between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda to get any attention. This morning, the Pentagon cancelled plans to send out a press release announcing the report's release and will no longer make the report available online. The report was to be posted on the Joint Forces Command website this afternoon, followed by a background briefing with the authors. No more. The report will be made available only to those who ask for it, and it will be sent via U.S. mail from Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia. It won't be emailed to reporters and it won't be posted online. One Pentagon spokesman's excuse for not putting it up on the website, as originally planned, was that initial press reports made it too "politically sensitive." Well, no duh! And yet the report, who's executive summary can be...
