De?i este practic o poveste autobiografic?, filmul ridic? o serie de probleme actuale ?i încearc? s? prezinte ?i o alt? fa?? a islamului.Eroina principal? este chiar Marjane, iar prin ochii ei de copil, iar mai târziu de adolescent, vedem transform?rile sociale, politice ale societ??ii iraniene pe o perioad? de 15 ani. Apoi ne este înf??i?at ?i impactul a dou? culturii, atunci când Satrapi vine la studii în Europa. Cu toate c? este un desen animat, produc?ia ridic? probleme de film politic sau chiar de documentar. De altfel, Iranul a fost nemul?umit de ...

2008-04-21 22:54:00 Persepolis(View all trailers and clips)PlotMarjane (Mastroianni) lives through the hopes of the Iranian Revolution in her home in Tehran. But during the Iran-Iraq war that follows, her parents (Abkarian and Deneuve) elect to send her abroad to study in safety. Things aren?t quite that simple, however.ReviewFrom Pixar down, the general trend in animation over the last few years has been clear. The movement is towards ever more realistic and textured canvases that paint an exquisitely detailed world in glowing shades of pure, pixellated magic. Persepolis, however, is an exception to the rule, a throwback every bit as successful as Aardman?s work with clay. This largely black-and-white, defiantly undetailed and sometimes stylised film could have been made at any point since the dawn of cinema, and yet it?s a thoroughly modern affair. An autobiographical tale that was written as a graphic novel, adapted for the screen and then co-directed by its chief character, Marjane Satrapi, this is ...

Danny Fingeroth, DISGUISED AS CLARK KENT, SUPERMAN ON THE COUCH, author, co
2008-03-31 17:01:00 Danny Fingeroth spends a whole lot of time thinking about superheroes. For several years, he did it as the editor of the Spider-Man group of titles at Marvel Comics. Today, he?s the editor of Write Now! magazine and author of two books that go behind the four-color glory of men in tights. Already the author of Superman on the Couch, Fingeroth?s latest examination of comics, Disguised as Clark Kent, explores why so many of the enduring characters of the golden and silver ages of comics can trace their heritage back to young American Jewish artists and writers such as Will Eisner, Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, Jack Kirby, and Stan Lee. His next book, Rough Guide to Graphic Novels, will be released by Penguin in 2008. Persepolis: Things Us Iranians Cannot Shout Out!
2008-03-16 16:57:00 What Marjane Satrapi has come up with on Persepolis is very daring. She has depicted some pictures and facts to the public that was never shown the way they shall be. This autobiographical animation film brings out scenes from the situation of Iran before and after the Islamic Revolution in a semi-documentary form. There are moments in this film that every Iranian knows for sure but is unable to scream it out: the total ignorance of some people about everything that was going on in that period, the tragic doom of people’s relatives with communist ideas and any liberal thoughts, police reactions, compelling women to wear their hijab although it was taken firmly in the early years, hardships the juvenile generation went through in order to have minimum fun by going to parties, listening to music, drinking anything alcoholic, closing up all the bars and discos and banning almost everything. After the Oscar nomination of Shohre Aghdashlou for her acting performance in The House Of Sand...

Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi Should Have Won.
2008-02-29 03:50:00 I watched on TV the Oscar Awards night. It was fun. With a lot of laughs courtesy of the always dependable Jon Stewart. But that fun was ruined when Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi lost in the Animated Feature Film category. Persepolis is among the best films of 2007, I believe.Anyway, it was Ratatouille who won and it didn't deserve it. I stand by my belief. Ratatouille didn't deserve the award. Sure, it was a great film with great visual effects but that's just it. It is the Harry Potter of animated movies. Nice effects but very flat.Persepolis on the other hand is a beautiful film based on the graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi of the same title. It may have lacked the technical superiority of Ratatouille but it was very smart, witty, it makes you think and ponder unlike Ratatouille that only makes you laugh.Persepolis is a movie that shall stay with me for a very long time. I'm looking forward to a home video or DVD release so I can watch it maybe a few more times.I also loved th...

Persepolis
2008-02-17 22:05:00 Last Friday I had the pleasure of taking in Persepolis. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that Regals was showing this film because before that revelation it was my understanding there was nothing seeing this week and I would spend the night home bored.Persepolis is an adaptation of the French graphic novel series of the same name by Marjane Satrapi. The four books in the series tell Marjane's story of growing up in a turbulent Iran undergoing a series of violent revolutions, her time abroad in Vienna during the Iran-Iraq War, and her return home to an even more repressive country than she had left. The film, like the graphic novels, is rendered using simple and stark black and white. The style and animation is quite aesthetically pleasing however.Persepolis grants the viewer insight into the hearts and minds of real people from Iran, as opposed to the stereotyped portrayals frequently shoved down our throats by "fair and balanced" news outlets. We get to see that be...

Persepolis pierces with laughter and sorrow?and rocks the best ever cover o
2008-01-21 21:35:00 How to buy Iron Maiden tapes during a repressive regime, keeping aging breasts round by soaking them in ice water for ten minutes a day, surviving war and tyranny as well as Austrian nihilists, and what to say to get kicked out of a nunnery in the middle of winter in Vienna. Persepolis, the animated feature film based on the bestselling graphic novels by Marjane Satrapi, is the political film currently winning accolades around the world (except Iran) and for good reason: not only can you discover the above secrets and negotiations of life through the poignant and vulnerable writing of Satrapi, but the animation is exquisite. The film also contains possibly the best bit of media-facilitated revenge I have ever seen exacted on an ex-lover. If I was that loser living in Austria, I'd be thinking twice before messing with another cartoonist like the driven, talented and fierce Satrapi. While ruminating on our present age of computer animation typified by Disney's creatively bankrupt Ca...
Discussing Persepolis with Writer and Director Marjane Satrapi - SendMeRSS
2008-01-14 21:15:00 Discussing Persepolis with Writer and Director Marjane SatrapiBack in early December I was given the opportunity to meet Persepolis' Iranian writer and director Marjane Satrapi and quickly jumped at the opportunity. Not only had a heard great things about the indie animated film, but I knew it would be a unique opportunity unlike anything else. Leading up to the interview I finally got the chance to watch Persepolis and loved it. To be honest, I really hope it goes on to win the animation Oscar, because it truly deserves it. Not only is it a very powerful political film, but it's funny and animated incredibly. In my interview, Marjane and I discuss everything from politics to abortion to the culture of underground comics to her obsession with art and perfection, and it's a worthwhile read for anyone interested in cinematic art. In a way, Persepolis is a memoir of Marjane's own life, recalling her experiences growing up in Iran and in Europe. As IMDb describes, Persepolis is a "p...

Persepolis: Movie Review (2008)
2008-01-07 04:03:00 No Country for Young WomenWritten and directed by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, 95 minutes, not rated. In French with English subtitles.Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud's "Persepolis" ushers audiences into two colliding worlds. The first is an arresting, black-and-white world animated with the grimness of abstract noir (color is used only fleetingly in this movie). The second is Satrapi's real-life story of growing up in Iran and Europe during the late 1970s and early 1990s, which gives life to the film's 2-D animation in ways that make for a strange yet fascinating brand of pop art.The story and the vehicle for telling it complement each other so beautifully, they work to make this one of 2007's most unique, satisfying movies. What Satrapi and Paronnaud have achieved is animation lifted to its highest, most cerebral form, with the medium used as a tool to generate the sort of off-beat, dreamlike mood live-action would find difficult to match.Based on Satrapi's gra...

Iran Protests Persepolis at Cannes
2007-05-24 20:45:00 Intro A film adaptation of Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi's acclaimed autobiographical comic about growing up in the midst of the Iranian revolution, drew the ire of Iran's government after premiering in the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week. The government affiliated Iran Farabi Foundation sent a letter of protest to the French government over the animated movie, which is taking part in Cannes' main competition. For her part, Satrapi, 37, was unfazed. Although she declined to respond directly to the government's complaints, she told reporters at a press conference that she accepted all criticism as doing so was simply part of living in a cultural that allows people to speak freely. "I believe in freedom of expression and freedom of speech," she said. "I simply accept that as part of the exposure." Main Text

2007-05-23 00:00:00 This is a year of many firsts for Persepolis co-directors Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud. Their first feature-length film has won them their first In-Competition selection at the Cannes Festival. The team has come to the Croisette with an animated film which, as a first feature, is also in the running for a Golden Camera award. Adapted from the Satrapi's original graphic novel, based on her own life, the action in this animated feature begins in Tehran in 1978, on the eve of the Islamic Revolution. We look on as Marjane, the eight-year-old heroine, dreams first of becoming a prophet and saving the world, and then, once the Islamic Republic is established, of overthrowing it. During the Iran-Iraq war, Marjane's parents send her to Austria to keep her out of harm's way. That's where Marjane lives through her second revolution: adolescence, freedom, and lovesickness, but also exile, loneliness, and being different.
