Zoloft - a personal experience
2008-01-27 11:58:00 Hi I have talked a few times already on this site about how Celexa (citalopram) has been known to cause weight gain. Recently I received this interesting email from someone who has used Zoloft (sertraline). If anyone has anything else to say about their own experiences with drugs like these, particularly on the weight loss or weight gain issue, I would be interested to hear from them and happy to publish it here. Here's the mail: "I was prescribed Zoloft two years ago for anxiety issues. It took care of my anxiety, I felt great, but I gained 18lbs! I was a mess and was very unhappy about it. It seemed to me that the Zoloft took away my ability to focus on my diet ( previously I was very strict about sugar restriction etc ). Since I weaned off of the Zoloft, for the past year, it has been extremely difficult to lose the weight. Unfortunately, I am having a severe depressive period due to a sibling committing suicide and I have fallen into a...

My Personal Experience
2007-12-21 22:48:00 Well, I have tried several things to improve my stamina in the bedroom. Below I will list the items I had the most success with.Exercise regularly. I notice I have improved stamina and desire when I exercise regularly.NOS, yep that's right nitrous oxide. I use no-xplode during my workouts which is a nos booster. I will have more on this in a later article.Practice. Practice makes perfect. Get yourself to the point of orgasm and practice stopping short of ejaculating. Hard to do at first, but #4 will assist with this.PC muscle exercise. Kegels exercisesIf you at least try #3 and #4 together I believe you will see a noticeable difference in the bedroom.I did 1-4 concurrently, multiple times a day and noticed an improvement within 3 weeks. I went from about a 15 minute sparring session to a 1 hour beatdown!
Insomnia - a personal experience
2007-12-18 18:01:00 I used to have insomnia. Now, I am not an insomniac but occasionally I do have trouble dropping off to sleep. This is natural, everyone has problems nodding off at some time or other. Let us define Insomnia. The medical profession divides it up into three sections. Transient, acute and chronic insomnia. They are categorized thus by the amount of time the patient has been experiencing sleep problems. Transient insomnia comes and goes. Acute insomnia lasts for at least three weeks, and chronic last over three months. Insomnia doesn't mean you can't sleep at all. It means that your sleep is not sufficient. As an anxiety sufferer my sleep was disturbed by worry, physical tension in my body and a racing mind. I tried quite a lot of different things to control the worry. Using CBT and writing techniques was quite helpful, but didn't really deal with the major worries, or the really pressing issues. I also tried progressive muscle relaxation and autogenic relaxation to relax my bod...

Quick Credit Repair: A Personal Experience
2007-11-05 22:56:00 One great way to repair or build credit fast is to get a secured VISA or MasterCard. A secured credit card is one in which you open up a savings account with the card issuing bank. This savings account is used as a security deposit for your credit card. Your credit limit is based on the amount that you deposit into the savings account. Once you have established a good record of payments on the credit card, the savings account funds are returned to you. Only use this secured credit card for gas or a few small purchases each month. When you get your bill, pay it immediately but overpay it by about $10 - $15. That way you always have a negative balance. The FICO system accelerates your credit rating quickly by doing this. Just make sure that you NEVER are late on making that payment. This method worked very well for me when I had very bad credit. After receiving my secured credit card, it took about 8 months before I was receiving pre-approved non secured VISA and MasterCard offers f...

Officer Training Theme song-Whatcha Gonna Do, PL?
2007-07-25 00:06:00 From four different commissioning sources- ROTC for those attending a civilian university; the Military Academy (West Point); OCS which provides a path to the officer corps for enlisted soldiers; and "direct commission," a "fast track" officer spring traditionally reserved for entering doctors and lawyers as it allows selectees to forgo some officer training, but, because of an officer shortage, not an uncommon officer starting place in 2007- all new officers converge onto either Ft. Sill or Ft. Benning for what's called BOLC II (BOLC I is OCS), a kind of combat basics course. After BOLC II, officers disperse again to the schools for their respective branch which the Army calls, BOLC III. After BOLC III, most newly minted LTs go on to become Platoon Leaders or "PLs." A platoon has around 40 soldiers and can be further broken down into squads (which themselves can be divided into teams). Several platoons make up a company and it goes up from there through battalion, brigade, divi...

Guest Post: Does the Army Discriminate Against Single Soldiers
2007-05-27 23:35:00 I've been married my whole time in the Army so I never thought about this stuff, but my OBC battle buddy remains sans spouse. She wanted to b**** err, discuss the situation with the blog community: My SINGLE Biggest Problem By Susan Sponable Alright, I'm going to warn any married readers of this article that I do not mean to offend them in any way by what I am about to write about. That being said, I truly feel like I am being discriminated against in the military, and life in general, because I am NOT married, and have chosen to be single. I usually don't focus on this facet of my life, but today I was, again, confronted with this issue. The problem came when I attempted to find some housing on my new permanent duty stations base. I first called lodging, which is usually the single person's home, and was told that the Army would only pay for 10 days of lodging. After that, I would be required to have some place to stay. This gave me some hope that I would not be living in...

Veterans, have you ever had one of those "dumb" Army days
2007-05-15 04:30:00 For those who have served: Have you ever had one of those, "man, this is some dumb s***" days when the Army does something seemingly designed solely to inconvenience you? Without getting into specifics, today was one of them. It wasn't directed at me specifically, but it's the reason I didn't post today. It might be fun if people posted some of those moments here.

Milblog conference in Arlington. Opinion on Army blog restrictions for OPSE
2007-05-05 20:21:00 Mary Catherine ham reports from the Milblogs (of which I'm a member) conference in Arlington VA. I guess the big controversy is the OPSEC rules for military blogs. The new Army regulations, as do most Army regulations, on blogging exist mainly to provide guidance for commanders i.e., what to look out for, what to restrict, punishment to give, etc. To summarize the changes, Regulation 530-1AR-530-1, was revised on March 20 and directs Army personnel to ?prevent disclosure of critical and sensitive information in any public domain to include but not limited to the World Wide Web, open source publications and the media,? and ?consult with their immediate supervisor and their OPSEC officer for an OPSEC review prior to publishing or posting information in a public forum.? I'll break ranks from some of my fellow milbloggers and praise the new changes. I think most of the opposition to the regulation comes from a misunderstanding of freedom of speech and a little self-righteousness...

Thank goodness the South stayed in the Union!
2007-04-28 18:18:00 Before I joined the Army, I never met many people from the American South. I had neither a negative or a positive impression of Southerners; I mostly just didn't think about it. Since I've joined, I've met many and it's really been a treat. I know generalizations can be ridiculous, but if I worked for some advertising agency or something, I'd mold my ads towards a more patriotic, family-oriented audience. I also think Southerners tend to have a little more sense of what people used to call "honor." In other words, they may be more willing to fight for reasons other than self-defense (just an impression-it could just be my generalizations running away with me. I wish this could be verified statistically). Anyways, I sometimes say, "I'm glad you guys didn't leave the Union or we'd have no Army at all." Unlike the example above, this is verifiable statistically: From Heritage foundation

Fear of Flying Courses - a personal experience part II
2007-03-15 21:32:00 Hi! This is the second part of Chris's experience of Virgin Atlantic's Flying Without Fear course, which he attended last year. The article follows on directly from part one, which was posted yesterday. Please follow this link to it and start reading from the beginning if you haven't done so already. *** Two Kinds of Fear There are, broadly speaking, two kinds of fearful fliers. Type 1: They are scared of the plane crashing, that don't feel that it is rational or reasonable for human kind to fly, and they worry that turbulence can break a plane apart and send it plummeting to the ground. These people are scared of terrorism, hijacking, structural failure and severe weather. All of their fears are unfounded as long as they stick to commercial passenger jets which either start or terminate in Europe, North America, Japan or Australia. Because of safety standards the chances of anything terrible happening on these flights is too miniscule to worry about. Type 2: T...

Fear of Flying courses - a Personal Experience
2007-03-15 21:30:00 Many of you will have seen various fear of flying courses advertised by airlines and on the Internet. In the UK the most popular ones are: Virgin Atlantic's "Flying Without Fear" British Airways linked "Aviatours" Flybe's "FlyingFear" According to their web site, all of these courses follow roughly the same format: An explanation of how flying works from a pilot An explanation of turbulence A discussion calming fears of safety and crashing A buffet lunch A relaxation seminar from an expert or a psychologist A question and answer session A flight Each of these courses cost between £180-250 approximately. I think most people with a severe fear of flying would agree that £250 is a small price to pay to overcome your fears. After all, most of these courses advertise 95% success rate, so it is a good investment. Chris from Somerset (in the southwestern UK for those of you who aren't from round here) has written to me with an appraisal of the Virgin Atlantic "Flying Without ...

Fear of Flying Courses - a personal experience part III
2007-03-15 21:29:00 Hi This is the 3rd and final part of Chris's experience on Virgin Atlantic's Flying Without Fear course. If you have missed parts One and Two please follow these links to go back and read them now. --- After lunch we were introduced to the Psychotherapist David Landau. He is the regular psychotherapist for these courses and also runs a private practice in West London. He gave a talk about fear, negative thoughts, and the like. He also said that we weren't phobic, just scared. He said: "If you're willing to fly but simply scared then you do not have a phobia. You wouldn't be here if you did." I beg to differ, the course info on their web site says: "We have helped people with all levels of fears from mild anxiety to full-blown panic attacks and vomiting at the mere mention of aircraft." If that doesn't describe phobic people I'm a Dutchman. This left a slightly unpleasant taste in my mouth. I felt like the website blurb had somewhat misled me. He took us thro...
