Ziesen Pesach
2008-04-19 20:11:00
Another day arrives and I forget the Paschal lamb. I'm not referring to Jesus or the day that Christians turned the events surrounding a seder into what we today call Easter. I'm talking about Passover. For those of you who might take for granted that your friends and neighbors might have a few Jews thrown into the mix then think about this - My neighbors have no idea what Passover is. Even though the holiday of Easter is called Paaske in Danish, which I believe is linked to the Paschal lamb, they have no connection to anything Jewish."Why is this night different from all other nights"? My neighbors might say, "Because on this night the sun falls below the horizon two minutes later than it did the night before". Or the fact that yesterday was a holiday called Store Bededag (Great Prayer Day), which was invented in the 1600s in order to consolidate some minor Christian holidays. I'm also wondering if it wasn't designed as another way to disassociate Christianity with it's Jewish...
Transformative Pesach Prophecy
2008-04-19 00:28:00
?'? ????? ???"?Annwyn 14I woke up in the middle of the night last night with a vision imprinted upon my mind. In the vision, I was sitting at my office desk working on all the extra work that has been put upon me recently (which, by the way, I am successfully making my way through this immense sea of work). Ceridwen, the archetypal Celtic goddess of prophecy and transformation, walked through the doorway into my office. She had a look of controlled anger about her, as if she was restraining herself mightily against some injustice. She also had a halo, like the one she wears in my bronze statue of her cauldron and she (shown, click to enlarge). With Ceridwen's appearance, came the words "warning" and "the writers" (?-??????).The two messages were one essential communication, each message corresponding to the communication on a different perceptual level."Warning" was telepathic and completely encompassing and encircling, like Ceridwen's halo. It was non-local, yet focused sufficie...
Pesach 5768. Out Of The Broom Closet.
2008-04-16 02:51:00
?'? ????? ???"?Annwyn 12I openly wore a pentacle at work today.Later, having dinner this evening with my parents, my father came right out and asked me between bites, "Are you studying to be a witch?""Actually, I am, " I said, "I'm a Jewish witch. A kabbalist, a shaman ...""What's that?" my father asked regarding the latter descriptor."You know ... a mystic ...""Oh, you mean, a witch," he said with a small chuckle, then the conversation went on to other topics. My children have all known for quite some time now that I am a Jewitch. But, I've never actually straight up informed my parents of my interest in combining witchcraft with Judaism.I am totally out of the broom closet!I have indeed been liberated this Pesach.
Kosher for Erev Pesach?
2008-04-15 18:12:00
A public service announcement from Mystical Paths...There's been a very weird kosher for Passover designation found on items in Israel...it reads:Kosher for Passover and Erev (right before) PassoverWhile I've just been scratching my head over this one, Mr. Shaul B. of Beit Shemesh, Israel researched this odd designation and has this to report:The answers I received (as to what this means) were split as follows:1. It means that the product was manufactured before Pesach, so any chometz can be batul b'shishim [nullified by 60] (IOW the designation "Erev Pesach" is lav davka; it just means "made before Pesach"); or2. It means that the product contains no matza, so it may be eaten on Erev Pesach (IOW "Erev Pesach" is davka, and it's specifically to put your mind at rest lest there should be crumbs of matza in your yogurt). Thanks to Phil R. who provided the email address of Rav Vaitman at Tnuva, we now have a definitive answer:Answer number 1: The product was made before Pesach, so y...

Thoughts On Easter
2008-03-18 17:04:00
I have been thinking about observances of Good Friday and Easter from a Christian perspective these couple of days, and some things have bothered me quite a little so bear with me while I share my thoughts with you. First off, I know some of you might ask what there is to think about from a ...
Pesach!
2008-01-29 04:46:00
Dear Friend,On behalf of the Rav, Yehuda, Michael - and everyone here at The Kabbalah Centre - we invite you to join us for:April 18 - 26, 2008Westin Diplomat Hotel3555 South Ocean Drive, Hollywood, Florida 33019We all want to understand ourselves better, to live more fulfilling lives, to have a richer experience of who we are and what we are here to contribute. All of us want to be happy. And in truth, most of us really want the same things out of life: we want to love and be loved; we want to have satisfying relationships; we want to enjoy financial security; we want our children to be happy and safe. So what prevents us from getting what we want? You guessed it.The ego.Our need to be right, our me-first attitude, our selfish thinking puts obstacles in the way of receiving our true fulfillment. But on Pesach we are able to erase our egos, if just for a moment, and to see what life is really supposed to be like. Why we are here. Why things happen the way they do. How our lives...
Pesach Sheini, never too late for Teshuvah
2007-05-03 02:46:00
Today is Pesach Sheini and it’s important to know the day’s relevance to a Jew in the 21st century.  Pesach Sheini was an opportunity for those who could not make it to the Beis Hamikdash for various reasons in order to bring the Korban Pesach on Pesach to bring it one month later. The... [ visit A Jewish Blog to continue reading ]
Our Pesach
2007-04-03 01:18:00
Pesach commemorates the emergence of a Jewish nation as a political entity. Scores of other peoples joined the Exodus, forever depriving Jews of genetic singularity and redefining the nation in religious and political terms. The founding of modern Israel closely parallels the Exodus, except that Zhabotinsky lacked the miracle-working powers of Moses and could not convince the Jews of European bondage to flee the imminent extermination. The Hebrews doubted their destiny already on Sinai and wished to return to death-spelling Egyptian bondage; the Jews who barely escaped the Holocaust seek to emigrate from Israel. Hebrews accepted a pagan cult and worshipped a golden calf; the Jews accepted Arabs in Israel and worship the ethnic-blind democracy; Jews three thousand years apart adhered to Judaism only moderately. Following the scouts’ advice, Hebrews shrunk from fighting for Canaan; following the wise leftists, Jews shrunk from annexing Judea and Samaria. Hebrews saw the divine fire-...
2 Chasidic Rebbes, one Passover (Pesach) story of Mesiras Nefesh
2007-04-02 19:36:00
A beautiful Passover story of 2 Chasidic Rebbes who survived the Holocaust. The Extra Matzah Rabbi Eliezer Zusha Portugal (1896-1982), the Skulener [pronounced skoo-LEH-ner] Rebbe, was the Chassidic Rebbe from a small town, Sculeni, in what was then northeastern Romania (now Ukraine). Toward the... [ visit A Jewish Blog to continue reading ]
Just in time for pesach: JTS to stop passing over gays
2007-03-27 00:00:00
Today, just three months after The Committee on Jewish Law and Standards voted to ease gay restrictions, the Jewish Theological Seminary announced that it will begin accepting LGBT students into its rabbinical and cantorial schools. Wow, support for gay rabbis!...
Why Ashkenazim don’t eat Kitniyot on Pesach
2007-03-25 07:27:00
Why don’t Ashkenazim eat Kitniyos on Pesach? This is what I’ve read on the subject. Kernals of grain occasionally mix in with Kitniyos. Some Kitniyos can be ground into flour and made into bread, and this could lead to confusion regarding grain-bread and Kitniyos-bread. Poor quality... [ visit A Jewish Blog to continue reading ]
