2007-08-26 12:40:00 Former Haçienda resident DJ Mike Pickering, the icon of the early-90s 'Madchester' acid house movement, and Radio 1 resident Pete Tong celebrated Tony Wilson this week with a two-hour Essential Mix special on UK's BBC Radio 1.Tony Wilson (1950-2007) was a British record label owner, radio presenter, TV show host, nightclub manager, impresario and journalist. "Mr. Manchester," as the Manchester Evening News dubbed him in its recent report, was the man who put Manchester on the map by bringing Joy Division, Happy Mondays, and New Order to the world. Wilson was the founder and manager of the legendary Manchester nightclub Fac 51 Haçienda (better known as simply The Haçienda) and was also one of the five co-founders of Factory Records. He died of a heart attack in Manchester's Christie Hospital on Friday, August 10th 2007 aged 57. In the first part Tong presents the very best of Factory Records with tracks from the likes of New Order, Joy Division, and Happy Mondays. Mike Picker...
