Pete Townshend Discusses 2008 Plans
2008-02-07 05:12:00
Pete Townshend discussed his plans for himself and the Who today in his blog."... After a talk with Roger yesterday we came up with a wish-list style plan. We still like the idea of playing Japan - especially as 'Amazing Journey' has yet to be released there and we might be able to give it a push by performing there around the time of the release this Autumn.""We also talked about revisiting Quadrophenia the way we did it in the '90s. This is all work for the Autumn.""Roger is working on his own idea for an album for us, with the producer T-Bone Burnett, who is an old friend of mine.""I am hoping to come up with some songs for a more conventional Who record.""There is a chance we might play some shows in the Festival season this summer. I would want to do that purely for fun, and I don't want to turn it into a big tour. I need to stay focussed on my writing."
Short Takes - Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr
2008-01-04 08:06:00
There are reports that Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton and Ringo Starr played a gig together as the Totally Abandoned on New Years Eve at a club in Surrey, U.K. The group played mainly old classics and, according to The Mirror, drinks were not as plentiful as at most New Years Eve bashes as all three artists have fought alcoholism in the past.An announcement is expected in the next couple of days that R.E.M. will be playing the South-by-Southwest Conference in Austin. The timing is perfect as the conference is in March and the new album is set for release on April 1.Charlie Daniels has selected Shooter Jennings and .38 Special as his tour mates for the 2008 edition of the Volunteer Jam Tour. Dates run from April 11 & 12 in Harris, MI through August 12 at the Iowa State Fair. Daniels has been doing the tour since 1974.
Pete Townshend - Who Came First [1972]
2008-01-02 19:40:00
Pete Townshend's first solo album was a homespun, charming forum for low-key, personal songs that weren't deemed suitable for the Who, as well as spiritual paeans (direct and indirect) to his spiritual guru Meher Baba. Who fans will be immediately attracted by the presence of a couple of songs from the aborted Who concept album Lifehouse (much of which ended up on Who's Next), "Pure & Easy" and "Let's See Action." The Who did eventually release their own versions of both those songs. But Townshend's own versions aren't the highlights of this record, which shows a folkier and gentler side to the Who's chief muse than his albums with the group. "Sheraton Gibson" is a neat tune about rock & roll road life, and "Time Is Passing" takes very subtle inspiration from Baba. Most of the rest of the album contains some of the most unusual pieces Townshend has released: his acoustic cover of Jim Reeves' "There's a Heartache Following Me" (recorded because it was one of Baba's ...
Pete Townshend - destroyer of guitars
2007-12-27 23:55:00
Throughout his solo career and his career with The Who, Pete Townshend has played (and destroyed) a large variety of guitars. In the early days with The Who, Townshend played 6-string and 12-string Rickenbacker semi-hollow electric guitars primarily (particularly the Rose-Morris UK-imported models with special f-holes). However, as instrument-smashing became increasingly integrated into The Who?s ...

Pete Townshend Acoustic at SXSW 2007
2007-03-21 16:39:00
The best surprise at SXSW 2007 was seeing Pete Townshend. We went to La Zona Rosa on Thursday night to see Elvis Perkins and The Cold War Kids and right when we walked in the door, Pete Townshend strolled on stage for an acoustic set. The picture I took was really dark, but ...
