Afternoon Update - Yoko Ono, Peter Gabriel, Jordanaires, Universal Fire
2008-06-03 00:27:00 Yoko Ono and her son Sean have lost the lawsuit against the makers of the film Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed for their unauthorized use of the song Imagine.U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein found in favor of the film makers, basing it on the "fair use" doctrine. "That doctrine provides that the fair use of a copyrighted work for purposes of criticism and commentary is not an infringement of copyright." The filmmakers had argued that, because they used less than thirty seconds of the song, they did not owe royalties or need to get permission.Peter Gabriel's new site, The Filter, will officially be opened tomorrow (Tuesday). The site asks users to rate a series of songs, films and acts to try to discern likes/dislikes and then offers up now or forgotten music based on those findings. Gabriel explained, "The Internet, which I think is an amazing creation, provides access to an ocean of limitless information, but without filtering it's easy to drown, but if you have this little ...
Evening Update - Peter Gabriel, Eurythmics, Vinyls Return, more
2008-05-20 08:39:00 Peter Gabriel is busy being a trend setter again. This time he has teamed with speaker makers Bower and Wilkins on a new subscription service that will provide MP3 music by new artists that have been recorded at Gabriel's Real World Studios in Bath, U.K. Studio time for the artists will be free and the rights for their songs will be returned two months after their premier.Gabriel said, "This collaboration with B And W is unique as far as I know and it's going to allow a lot of interesting projects to happen."For artists, Music Club is a dream proposition because they get some great time in the studio, access to really good recording facilities and can experiment without being committed to anything or anyone beyond a month with B And W."Dave Stewart has plans for the distant future working with Annie Lennox. "Annie and I have never had a shouting out argument, which is pretty amazing. Eurythmics will last forever."I wouldn't be surprised if we were performing together at 70 at...

Evening Update - Marie Osmond, Madonna, Paul McCartney, more
2008-05-10 05:45:00 Marie Osmond has weighed in on the whole Miley Cyrus photo fiasco. Her criticism is not for Miley, but for her father Billy Ray for leaving the shoot before it was over. Osmond told AOL Television, "My parents never, never left us alone. We always had some form of a guardian or something with us, a guardian that would represent what they would have done."There is an active rumor in the U.K. that Madonna may expand her schedule at London's Wembley Arena from her current single show to a full residency. The reports say that it could challenge Michael Jackson's twenty-year-old record of seven nights at the venue. It's probably just a lot of fan speculation, but English chat boards are overrun with the idea that Ringo Starr will play with Paul McCartney at Liverpool's Sound City music festival from May 27 to 30. A source tells the Daily Star "There's been a lot of chat in Beatles fan chatrooms on the internet and the feeling is that it could happen."A new on-line poll in Englan...
Musician Peter Gabriel Shows Us The Need For Full Disk Encryption
2008-05-09 05:21:00 Peter Gabriel shows, albeit indirectly and unwittingly, why one needs full disk encryption if data security is the ultimate objective. Gabriel?s servers that powered his website?hosted at a data center?were stolen. This affects more than a website with a litany of Gabriel?s accomplishments. I?ve never been to the site before, and it?s not operating at 100%, obviously, but a look at the temporary stand?in makes it apparent the stolen servers were at the center for getting all things Gabriel?related, including the sale of music and concert tickets. Break-ins into data centers are nothing new. I?ve heard the entire gamut, from people strolling in while waving at the guard (and the guard waving back, which is why I dropped the word ?security? from ?security guard?) to using chainsaws and going through the walls, literally. Break?ins of any kind are not common when it comes to data centers, especially if the facility was built with security in mind?RF...

Today in History, February 13th
2008-02-13 16:25:00 Well, the Aging Disco Diva was a social studies teacher for many years (More than one student asked me if I remembered Abraham Lincoln....Yes, I do, he was the tall, rather goth looking kid sitting in the back of the one room schoolhouse I taught in. As you might have ascertained I believe in serving liberal doses of sarcasm....and for some reason middle school students just adored it)Anyway.....I found this daily video series this morning and loved it. I will be posting it each morning so that if your boss catches you reading my blog you can tell him or her that you are just furthering your education...which in turn is making you an even more valuable asset to the company....and you will be in to visit about that pay raise later on this afternoon....Today in History: February 13thBruno Richard Hauptmann convicted in the Lindbergh baby kidnap-murder; The World War II bombing of Dresden begins; Konstantin Chernenko becomes Soviet leader; Peter Gabriel born; Waylon Jennings dies.Tec...

Peter Gabriel - So
2007-09-17 16:06:00 Peter Gabriel - So DOWNLOAD Who is Peter Gabriel ? As the leader of Genesis in the early '70s, Peter Gabriel helped move progressive rock to new levels of theatricality. In his solo career, Gabriel was no less ambitious, but he was more subtle in his methods. With his first eponymous solo album in 1977, he began exploring darker, more cerebral territory, incorporating avant-garde, electronic

2007-08-25 02:11:00 Share on StumbleUpon: A boutique investment firm in London has found an unlikely new business idea: releasing comeback albums for artists that major labels may not longer be lusting after. That he’s enjoyed massive commercial success along the way seems almost incidental to his personal global village; the ...
