With Jackson's involvement, the Tolkien movies will now have some stylistic consistency; I hope they turn out better than the mildly disappointing Star Wars prequels (or King Kong). Now, the article says that Jackson's making two Hobbit films. Does that mean he's going to break up the Hobbit into two movies or that he's going to make the Hobbit into one film and find material for another one? The Hobbit isn't that long and since the party stays together instead of splitting up like the adventurers in Lord of the Rings, it should take up less screen time. It would be great if Ian McKlellan can make another appearance, although that staff must be getting a little heavy. No word yet on whether Glenn Yarbrough will do the soundtrack. Tolkien. In a statement Tuesday, the companies said Jackson, the director of the smash hit "Lord of the Rings" movies, and producer Fran Walsh will executive produce both a "Hobbit" movie and a sequel, but Jackson was not named as the director. "We don't have a director yet," said a New Line spokeswoman. Peter Jackson makes his bones with DreamWorks

According to trade reports, the studio committed late Friday to shelling out at least $65 million to make Peter Jackson's adaptation of Alice Sebold's best-selling 2002 novel about the murder of a 14-year-old girl and what it does to her family?as narrated by the victim's spirit after the fact. "When you read an emotionally magical story that cries out to be turned into a major motion picture, you hope its winding path can find its way to the door of your own company," said Steven Spielberg, who has reportedly been wanting to work with Jackson for some time.

RED introduces new stuff, shows Peter Jackson/RED ONE short, pocket cam/4k
2007-04-17 18:08:00 I had a chance to sit down with RED Digital Cinema to find out what's going on. They announced a set of primes for around $20,000; a professional pocket camera; a 4k display and projector (note, the pocket cam and the 4k display and monitor are in the planning stages and no specs, etc., were given). My friend and RED employee Graeme Nattress suggested I check out the short film written and directed by Peter Jackson (yes, THAT Peter Jackson) shot on two alpha RED cameras, Boris and Natasha. It was shot recently (late March/early April) and was projected in 4k on the new Sony 4k projector, the SXRD.To say it blew the small audience away would be an understatement!
