A little love from Peter King
2008-05-05 16:09:00
SI.com's Peter King decides to give Jacksonville a little love in his 2008 Team Rankings .  I'm pretty hard on PK for his writing sometimes, but since he's being kind to the Jaguars, I'll cut him a little slack 3. Jacksonville. "Why'd they let Marcus Stroud go?'' Jags fan Jonathan Papelbon asked me a couple of weeks ago. Long story. Ankle surgery, four-game suspension last year, age (29), unwillingness to pay him big money anymore. Now the underappreciated Rob Meier's going to have to plug the gap there. I think he can, and I think Jack Del Rio will scheme around the loss of Stroud. What I like about the Jags is that they've addressed their pass-rush need with the daring trade-up for Derrick Harvey -- who will have to be good right away -- and they have a quarterback of the future who's not a worry. David Garrard was pure guts in beating Pittsburgh on the road in the playoffs, and he was pretty good in a playoff loss at New England, with confident scoring driv...
New York Republicans Threaten Spitzer with Impeachment
2008-03-11 20:56:00
Four (it started with two when I tried to get this posted before my class) New York State Assembly members, all Republicans, have threatened New York Governor (and former Attorney General) Eliot Spitzer with articles of impeachment if he does not resign within 48 hours.  This is all stemming from Spitzer’s telephone calls and involvement ...
Recap of the Inagural Sod Bowl
2007-12-27 17:49:00
Some of you may recall that we here at Sod had the great pleasure to host a college football bowl game, a great step forward for our fledgling blog. We were understandably excited to join the likes of Papajohns.com, Insight.com and Brut in sponsoring a bowl game to gain further exposure for ourselves.

Sports Illustrated Sucks At Predictions; Peter King Sucks At Ranking
2007-12-20 23:37:00
Before the season started, Sports Illustrated shared their holy expertise with the world and predicted how this NFL season would play out. For the most part they were horribly off base and proved they’re just as clueless as we are. You can see the actual NFL standings here, and compare them to what Sports Illustrated ...
PETER KING IS AN IDIOT
2007-10-23 13:17:00
PETER KING IS AN IDIOT Who really takes this guy serious anymore?   He dropped the Cowboys in the rankings for the sole purpose of putting the AFC in the top five spots.   See the rest of his article Here The Fine Fifteen 1. New England (7-0). The Patriots are seven games into the season. Randy Moss caught his ninth and 10th touchdown passes Sunday in Miami. That’s the most of any Patriot wideout Since 1971! Since Randy Vataha! And there are nine games left in the season! 2. Indianapolis (5-0). Quirky schedule for the Colts. Have you noticed? They played five games in the first 46 days of the season, an average of one per 9.2 days. Starting tonight, they play six in the next 32 days, an average of one per 5.4. The first four of those six will be tough fights — Jacksonville, Carolina, New England and San Diego. What kind of physical shape will Indy be in after that slate? 3. San Diego (3-3). I’ve got the Chargers and Jags, who haven’t played since last S...

The Biggest Event: Epilogue
2007-09-26 22:28:00
On August 30, 2006, months after the ceremony in Congressman Peter King's office honoring my father and his WWII service, my mother passed away after a long battle with cancer and Lupus. The sorrow my father experienced after losing his wife of fifty two years was enormous. To this day, he honors her by having masses said in her name at church and finishing all of the projects around the house which both he and my mother planned to do before she became sick. With his wife gone, and with his own lingering health issues, dad has moved on with his life with his children to watch over him. Back in June of 2007, my wife and I took dad with us to my sister's house as we were all invited to a family event. On the way home that Saturday night, it was dark, our children were dozing in the rear seats of our very large Trailblazer, and my wife sat in the back to accommodate my father as he needed the comfort of the front, bucket seat. As we drove home, dad talked about how both he and my mot...
The Biggest Event: Part III
2007-09-21 18:17:00
With my father's blessing, and at his request, I ventured into new territory as I went about getting his war medals for him. I allowed my computer to remain powered off this time as I figured that the internet would be of little use to me. With my phone book in hand, I dialed up the office of Congressman Tim Bishop from my district for assistance. A gentleman on his staff was eager to help me, but was unable to because while I lived in Rep. Bishop's district, my father did not. He suggested, rather reluctantly, that I call the office of Congressman Peter King who represents the area my dad lives in. This kind gentleman added that he'd be more than willing to help if "for some bizarre reason" as he termed it, Rep. King's office "wouldn't do anything for me." But, he stated that he believed that they would jump at the chance to get my father the recognition he deserved. When I called Congressman King's office, I was met with the same friendly, enthusiasm as I was when I called R...
King ranks Favre no. 14 in NFL
2007-06-20 14:21:00
Sports Illustrated's Peter King ranked Green Bay Packers quarterback as the projected 14th best quarterback in the NFL "in 2007 and 2007 only."King also writes of Favre saying, "I think Brett Favre's sore shoulder means nothing. Absolutely nothing. It's June. He's been sore before, in a lot of different places, in the spring and summer."Fans can only hope Favre proves King wrong in his rankings, but they will also hope King is spot-on in his assessment of Favre's health.
Peter King: Rookies Not Worth the Dough
2007-04-16 19:27:00
<a href="http://sportsillustr-ated.cnn.com/2007/writers/peter-_king/04/15/draft/index.html&qu-ot;><center><img hspace="5" src="http://images.bucem.c-om/images/admin/MMQB.jpg"- border></center></a-><p>At what has become a must read column, Peter King's "<a href=" http://sportsillustrated.cnn.co-m/2007/writers/peter_king/04/15-/draft/index.html">Mond-ay Morning QB</a>", Peter discusses a circulating idea that the Rookies in this upcoming Draft have Franchises thinking maybe these guys aren't worth 1st Round Money. That this crop of Rookies are NOT 1st Round Caliber players who deserve the money.<p> <i>My response to this apparent blood cur tiling idea is that, that's about how it's been for the past existence of the NFL Draft. Sure, there are years in which there is more depth in the Draft, that occurs with players leaving early, but to act like this Draft is beyond compreh...

Peter King: The Bucs will Draft Adams or Peterson
2007-03-29 03:42:00
Si.com's Peter King <a href="http://sportsillustr-ated.cnn.com/2007/writers/peter-_king/03/27/nfl0402/index.html?-eref=si_nfl">feels</-a> the Bucs would draft DE Gaines Adams from Clemson or RB Adrian Peterson from Oklahoma if they are unsuccessful in moving up for Calvin Johnson.<p> <i>Why would the Bucs Draft Adrian Peterson? &nbsp;I'm wondering the very same thing. &nbsp;Cadillac Williams is still productive minus last seasons performance (due to no line help), Michael Pittman is under contract, AND . . . BJ Askew has said he would like to resume his Running Back role from his collegiate days at Michigan. &nbsp;King's reasoning is that the Bucs would want a player that could immediately step in and produce. &nbsp;I tend to believe that player is Amobi Okoye from Louisville. &nbsp;His speed alone sets him apart from the pack, along with his age (19 years old).</i> &nbsp;

Peter King: Petitgout is better than Davis
2007-03-13 03:09:00
Peter King from <a href="http://sportsillustr-ated.cnn.com/2007/writers/peter-_king/03/11/mmqb/2.html"&g-t;Si.com</a> feels the Cowboys vastly overpaid for Leonard Davis. King goes as far as to call Davis a "Classic Underachiever".<p> <i>I'm not sure about the disparities in performance between Luke Petitgout and Leonard Davis, but I am enamored with this signing and feel we may have gotten a steal of a deal.<p> ETVal over at <a href="http://www.bigbluevi-ew.com/">BigBlueView.co-m</a> SB Nation's New York Giants Blog; had this to say about Petitgout:<p> Petitgout was having the best season of his career before breaking his leg halfway through the 2006 season. He has played left tackle the past few seasons and before that was the starting right tackle. He is a pretty good run blocker, but an average pass blocker, I believe. He is also subject to taking too many penalties. Particularly false starts....
